Chapter 2- The Goddess of the Star
I was visited at the middle of the night when I was sleeping.
If I was still in my 60 years old body, I would be dead by heart attack.
“Hi birthday boy” say the lady voice in my mind.
Me (Startled) = “Who is there?” then I realize the voice comes from INSIDE not OUTSIDE.
“Quick thinking there, I thought you would run to your mother.”
Me = “I think I have a case of schizophrenia”
“Schizophrenia?”
Me = “Hallucination. You are my hallucination, right?”
(Laughing) “Ofcourse not, you silly. I am the Goddesses of the Star. Surely you have read about me in the book?”
Me = “Well I am not really a believer so I kinda dismiss the gods and goddesses as fairy tale.”
“That’s quite rude of you. I am real you know. Sure the stories are 80% fake but there are some truths inside them also”.
Me = “I apologize; of course I know they contain truth. I just guess that the gods aren’t true. But if you are not my hallucination then there are gods huh.”
“And Goddesses, yes, we are real.”
Me = “Well, what can I do for you my lovely lady?”
“What a flirt, you don’t even know my look”
Me = “Well you have a lovely voice”
(Laughing) “You sound like an old man instead of one year old boy but no woman will reject compliment. I don’t need you to do anything. I want to bless you since it seems you have affinity and knowledge of what stars are. Beside I have been watching you it seems you are… interesting.”
Me = “Shortly, because you find me amusing eh? Well I never reject blessing as long as it won’t harm me. There is no catch, isn’t there?”
“Well, actually if a god or goddess doesn’t like me then they won’t welcome you. Right now I have no enemy but I might in the future. I might give you quest from time to time and rejecting might revoke my blessing. Still interested?”
Me = “Yes, I guess it is a fair price.”
“Good, you won’t regret it.”

Oh yes, I got quick reading from reading all the books in the library.
Mana perception and meditation I got after reading a book “Magic for beginner” and trying to “feel” the magic.
The book only mention meditation though.
Well it seems I also pick up scribe skill from all the time watching my mother doing her work.

In the morning after breakfast all family gather in the living room, including our maid and my siblings, oh yeah their name are Chald and Merline.
They pray some praise to the gods and goddesses then they start conversing with each other and talking about their expectation.
My bro want to become a ranger, an archer class that can use a little bit of magic, stealth, tracking and dagger for close combat.
My sis want to become a healer, it seems she has a good affinity to holy element.
Our maid want to get married with good guy.
My mom and dad just wish to raise us well.
When my mom ask me jokingly what I want to be, I surprise her by answering fluently.
Me = “I don’t know yet mom. I need to ask a lot of questions before I decide.”
That makes my entire family to open their jaw seeing me talk fluently. Well, I never say a lot, just eat, drink, poo-poo and pee-pee. Even lately I go to pee-pee by myself. My dad is the one who recover fastest.
Dad = “You can speak fluently?”
Me = “Yes, I can.”
Mom = “How come you never speak fluently before?”
Me = “There was no need to do that.”
That earns me another open jaw. I sigh; I need to stop this before they think I am crazy or something.
Me = “May I ask to learn about status window and skill window? And yes, before you ask I have been reading all the books in the library and the ones that mom is copying. And yes, I can read and use status window and skill window.”
Well silent again before my dad says again.
Dad= “You already able to use status and skill window?”
Me =”Yes dad, why?”
Dad = “You need an int at least 10 to use it. The youngest record is a demon sub-race at 3 years old.”
Chald = “Cool, I got a genius baby brother.” He said by grinning.
Dad = “Well, first can you show me your status window son?”
Me = “How do I do that?”
That earns me laughter from all my family members and our maid.
Merline = “I thought you know everything already.”
Well duh, If I know everything I won’t need to ask around.
Our maid, linea is the one who answer me = “You just need to say [show status to dad] or something like that.”
I see, that’s simple no wonder everyone laugh at me but I am still one year old. Give me a break guys.
Me = “Show status to dad”
That earns me another jaw dropping from my dad
Mom = “What’s wrong honey?”
Dad = “I think you need to show your mom too, son.”
So I show my mom too and her jaw also drops.
Me = “Can someone explain to me what’s wrong?”
Mom = “Well, let’s put it this way, a six year old usually have a 6 on str and agi. Wis usually vary depending on magic talent while int usually hover around 10+. Since we need an int of at least 10 before able to use the status and skill window, we usually test the children at age 6. A wis of over 6 at 6 years old will consider have a basic talent for magic and need to go to school to develop the talent. This might change according to race and upbringing but an adult usually at age 15 will have an average 15 on str and agi, a 13-18 int and varying wis. Int also develops easier when you are younger but more or less stuck when you get older. You can also learn languages easier when you are younger. A male usually have more str while a female usually have more agi though for elf we tend to have better agi as our racial trait.”

Dad = “We usually do not check a baby under six for the status. We only check six years old to see Wis to determine the magic talent so I don’t really know whether you are a genius but I can assure you has talent. We need to wait 5 more years but meanwhile I will try to find a tutor who are willing to teach you about basic magic knowledge. Your mom can teach you general knowledge like history, math, geography, etc. I can teach you basic combat skill.”
Me = “Thanks mom and dad, how about hidden skill?”
That earns them a surprise.
Linea = “You have a hidden skill?”
Whoops, I quickly determine not to cause anymore episode with my family.
Hell, I don’t know whether they will think me as abomination and burn me at a stake.
Me = “No, I read it in the book.”
They seem to relax a lot on that.
Mom = “Well, usually each race will have a common racial trait skill like the blessing of the suns for sun elf, the blessing of the moons for moon elf, the blessing of the adept for the most human, the blessing of berserker for Berserk Orc, etc. Hidden skill can mean 2 things, you can hide your skill so you can only show the skill you want to others. However some skilled people might be able to see your skill nevertheless while a permanent hidden skill start at hidden and won’t be able to be seen by other people. It is quite hard to learn and advance skill and usually it take years to master one. The level will be divided into basic, intermediate, advance, expert, master and grand master.”
Dad = “You can also show only a partial of your status if you like and hide the rest of them.”
Well as expected of a scribe, my mom is very knowledgeable.
Mom = “Then can you show us your skill?”
After hesitating a bit(cause I don’t want to cause more rucus), I show my skill to everyone while hiding the goddess blessing.

It seems they have used to the idea of me as some kind of genius so there is no jaw dropping scene anymore though they still have surprise in their eye.
Mom = “That’s very interesting, now I know why I always lost you. The most surprising is your QuickReading. Intermediate classes usually take years to get. And you got it already. Mana Perception is a rare skill, only gifted mages have it. Well, we can settle down that you are more of less a prodigy.”
Dad = “Surprisingly you have learned the basic skill, identify. Or I should say unsurprisingly since we usually teach it at school when you are 6 years old.”
Me = “Identify?”
Chald = “It’s a skill to recognize items and people. You need higher mastery though to recognize an important person or rare items. There is a perquisite of an int of 12 to learn it.”
Apparently satisfied he knows something that I don’t and act like a big brother.
Mom = “I will teach it to you personally. But I must remind you not to show your status and skill to anyone, also it is considered rude to ask people to show their status or skill to you. Of course some places require you to show your basic status.”
Me = “Basic status?”
Mom = “Usually they would expect you to show your name, level, title and profession. Some will ask for class but rarely since knowing your class will give a clue of what you can do and what is your weakness.”
Seeing me quite, she asks me whether I have any more questions but I respond with a no.
“Well, that settles it then, I have a genius son so any questions just let us know.” said my dad with a big grin.
Me = “Thanks dad”.
In the next few days, I also learn that my brother is talented at bow and archery and have a limited talent on wind magic. He has been going to school in the village and will go to big city to study more when he is 12. My sis shows a good affinity on holy magic and might get a scholarship to study at one of a big city temple once she turns 6 years old. We still need to wait until she turns six and her wis stat though.
My dad is a level 43 with dual swordsman class; his profession is a village chief.
My mom is a level 37 with rune magician class, her profession is a scribe.
Their level is considered quite high.
They told me that they used to be quite famous adventurer.
I also learn a few things on classes, profession, title and my parent:
1. Titles, Classes and profession are not dependent to each other. There are some titles, classes and profession with same name like knight, priest, farmer, king, etc. But it is entirely possible for a knight class to have a priest profession.
2. Once you choose your class, there are few options to change to other class. Mostly people won’t change their class at all due to hard penalty or requirement. You can change to higher related class though, the term is class evolution. Several samples are squire to knight, warrior to swordsman or axeman , priest to high priest to bishop to cardinal, etc.
3. My mom have higher salary than my dad, it seems she is considered as one of few master scribe in the world. Her job require utmost secrecy and sworn not to copy the contents without the permission of the owner. They don’t say anything about reading them though…
4. Profession usually determines what you do mainly for your living. Whether you are a king or a farmer, a thief or a merchant, an assassin or a bodyguard will show in your profession. Professions are easy to change though, a captured thief will soon change the profession to prisoner, a king can become a farmer if he chose to abdicate and do farming, etc.
5. It seems my dad was quite famous and knows important people before my grandfather passed away and he was forced to settle down and retire from his adventures. I have an uncle and two aunts but they have no desire to live in the village. My uncle lives in another elven kingdom, one of my aunt and her husband live in the capital, surprisingly my other aunt marry a human prince and live in her husband’s kingdom.
6. Title is automatic and given to you depending on your circumstances, the most common ones are baby, children, teenagers, adult, villager, adventurer, royalty titles (like count, dukes, kings, queens, etc). You can have more than one title theoretically but usually most people only have one title since the better ones override the lower ones.
To conclude it, I can say that titles can be influenced or not, depending on the circumstances. Classes is very important since once you chose it, usually you will have it for live. On the other hand, you can freely choose your profession and you can change it anytime you want.
