Chapter 1: First Year

The next thing I realize is that I am in a confined dark chamber for some time.

I felt save and warm even though it’s kinda tight.

Then the walls around me are contracting and pushing me and I can hear lots of noise and finally I saw a blinding light all around me.

I am not happy then and start screaming, I mean who would be happy when they were kicked out of their house and suddenly got a blinding light in their face.

Then I felt tired and sleepy(probably due to long screaming).

Someone hug me and I felt warm and secure and drifted to sleep.

The next days are filled with sleeping and eating and I am content.

Once everything have settled down I tried to gather my thought.

I seem to remember a little bit of who I am or should I say who I was.

I was almost 60 years old when I died and got reborn.

The other details are vague.

I didn’t remember much of my past life events but I realize that I have been reincarnated.

Why i still remember my past life? Think that GA mess up again.

I tried to see around me but it seems my baby eyes won’t let me focus enough to discern pattern.

I would try that again every day until everything are clear.

I also tried to hear what are they talking about but I seem not to understand a little bit.

From my hearing it’s a quite different than English.

As a result I can just eating, sleeping, practicing my eyesight and hearing.

When I got to 3 months old I find out some things:

1. My name is very long but they like to call me Bry something similar to Bry.

2. I am not human, it seems my parent are humanoid, quite tall(well they are all tall for a baby), yellow skinned(like chinese or japanese), pointed ear, slim, quite big eyes and quite beautiful(for me at least but I am their son so I might be biased). Might be similar to those elves in stories.

3. I managed to understand a little bit of their language and start practicing by mimicking when nobody sees me.

4. I mean I have a mentality of 60 years old man; it is quite embarrassing making a lot of mistakes in pronunciation while being laughed at fairy tale creatures.

5. I am 3 months old and they are not expecting me to speak or walk anytime soon.

6. I have an elder brother and an elder sister. I don’t know their age but I would think they are around 6-8 for my brother and 3-4 for my sister. Both of them love me but they prefer to play with their friends all day.

7. We have a maid in the house, one quite pretty young lady.

8. My baby room is next to my parent room but I sleep alone. I am a good baby which means I only got hungry once or twice in the night.

9. I am very bored, I am practicing to crawl and expecting to be able to crawl anytime soon so I can explore by myself.

To summary boring things for the next 3 months:

1. I am now 6 months old

2. I have been able to crawl since i was 3 ½ months and my parent are very happy.

3. I can speak a few words when I was 4 months old. Mainly papa, mama, poo poo, pee pee. Everyone beaming like I am the Einstein of this world. The reason why I start speaking was because I don’t like to “poo poo” and “pee pee” in my pants so I need to inform them ASAP.

4. I have been able to walk at 5 months old but I kept this to myself since I don’t like attention like when I first able to crawl and speak. I never enjoy attention even in my past life. It is very satisfying though and I have been able to run at 6 months old.

5. I like to go missing whenever my mom is busy. At first she tried to ask my brother or sister to watch me whenever she is busy but I always managed to lose them since they are easily distracted. Since I always return at feeding time and sleeping time, finally my mom just give up.

6. My house is quite big. My parent and I are in the first floor while the kids are in the second floor. My dad’s workshop is in the first floor and my mom’s work desk is in the second floor.

7. Since we have a maid and quite big house I would say we are a well off family though maybe not noble (I don’t know how royalty live in this world so we might be a poor noble family).

Today I find my favorite place, a library! The location is next to my mom’s work room.

Usually the door always kept close but one day I found it open.

You can’t imagine my joy since I was a bookworm in my previous life.

Then I dejected again after realizing I can’t read this world’s written language.

Some are like runes, some like ancient Egyptian, some like ancient Chinese, etc.

I won’t give up and searching a book with pictures. A bookworm like me is unable to read any book? That would be a torture.

Suddenly there is a sound and notification in my eyes:

That got me by surprise; I never expect such a window to open.

Is it some kind of racial trait or a common thing in this world?

Well, let’s try: “Status window”

Sure, some stat and explanation appear but I can’t understand any of it. It might be this world’s language.

Sighing I said in my mind: “Wish they have English version.”

To my surprise the language turns to English:

Hmm that’s good, I can use the English version and turn it to other languages and use it as my reference to decipher this world’s written language.

After several tries I managed to open my skill list with description by thinking “open skill list description”.

Well, I guess blessing of the sun is my racial trait since my race is noted as Sun Elf.

Genius Mind and Aura Blessing seems what I got from the GA (I remember more clearly now about the GA event when I died).

Comparing words from my windows and from books I managed to spend the next 6 months learning to read languages and reading books at daylight and light exercising and sleeping at night.

The reason why I start light exercising was because in my past life I remember some research on animals suggest training animals from young age will increase their overall life as long as you don’t push the animals too hard (which can result in broken bone, trauma, etc).

I only do light stretching. For 6 months I have learn quite a bit from the books, of course I kept it secret from my family, I don’t want to be labeled genius or freak.

To sum it up, I have learned:

1. This world is quite big and quite a lot of areas left unexplored.

2. Candles are quite expensive and rarely use. No sign of electricity.

3. Magic exist in this world. We can learn magic at school but not everyone are able to use magic. How strong magic you can use depend on your affinity, mana, wisdom and knowledge.

4. Magic is divided on several elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Holy, and Dark.

5. Everyone have affinity to one or several elements. Having affinity means you can learn magic easier. The elements have opposite effect. Fire vs Water, Earth vs Wind, and Holy vs Dark. Meaning if you have affinity to both fire and water, you need to be careful since the magic can harm you instead.

6. There are several major races and uncounted minor races and sub-races. The major races are Human, Elf, Dwarf, Orc, Demon and Beastman. I belong to one of sub-race of elf, the sun elf. As the name suggest, we are stronger by daylight and have a yellow skin as sign of sun blessing.

7. It is possible to cross breeding between races, however the children might get prejudiced so it is not a common thing.

8. The economy depends on magic in big cities but not so in rural areas like my home. In cities they have public lamps powered by magic stones, vehicles driven by magic power, etc but they horribly expensive and only few nobles and royalty can afford them.

9. I learned mana perception and meditation from the books. They are useful to train your magic affinity and wisdom it seems. I practice it at night reducing my sleeping time but I like it since meditation refresh your mind and body, reducing my need to sleep. Sometimes I also wonder if I one of the star is the earth sun. Oh yeah, we have 3 moons and 2 suns. One sun is smaller than the other and not always visible every day.

10. My father is minor nobility; he is the village chief and handles village security and diplomacy.

11. My mother is a scribe. Since there are no printing machines in this world, a scribe is valued and sworn to secrecy. Needless to say I am checking her finished works and it seems she like it since I do not ruin the paper. Maybe she thinks I want to become a scribe like her.

12. I am in the territory of elven kingdom Durothar. One of two elven kingdoms in the land. The other elven kingdom is across the ocean, the elven kingdom of Avalon. This world is quite big, much bigger than earth and there are a lot of areas still unexplored, according to my map.

13. The temperature varies. My hometown have 4 seasons much like some places on earth.

14. We have 30 hours per day and 30 days per month and 12 months per year. Each hour is equal 60 minutes.

15. The population also use base ten calculation.

16. There are a lot of religions in this world. Some are tolerant, others are fanatical, and some are popular while others are dying. Some religions are race-specific while others, mostly the popular ones spread across races. Most religions are polytheistic though several are monotheistic. My family is polytheistic but mainly worships the elven sun god. No wonder since we are the sun elf.

17. Each race have their own language and writing system but we have a common language and writing system that are taught to every diplomats and merchants of the 6 races. Legends say that the gods gave the common language to prevent another devastating war between the 6 races.

The races in particular really interest me since here we have so many sentient races as opposed to earth only human.

The so called major races are the most numerous sentient race in this world and it seems they have their own characteristic. Minor races means their number are smaller.

Some of the minor races are very strong like the dragons, the giants, the vampires, the werewolves, etc.

Some are very weak like the goblins, the kobolds, the gnolls, etc.

Another interesting point is that we can cross-breed between 6 major races theoretically since there were several instances of half-breed though they are not common.

We might evolve from a single race recently if I still remember the biology lesson from my previous life.

The 6 major races are also humanoid.

This world will reject any notion of common ancestor though since every single of major races believes they are superior to others.

Another interesting point is the racial characteristics of the major races:

1. Human have a racial skill of adaptability.

Enabling them to learn more skill and access to majority of class.

Downside to human is that human have no special class which mean they are quite weak as individual or small army.

A big human army is reputed to be one of the strongest single race army though since they have all different classes in their army.

Human have no sub-race. Human in this world are very similar to human on earth with different eyes, skin color, hair color, etc. There seems no racist between human in this world like on earth.

Probably because there are a lot of other much more different sentient creatures.

There are racist in humanity though in essence some of human don’t like and differentiate other races.

The human race hates the demon race.

I think because the demon race is opposite of human race, in which they have the most sub-races and very specialize in their classes.

2. Demon have the most sub-races.

Every sub-race is specialized in a several specific class.

If all demon sub-races are united under one banner, they would be the strongest army instead of the human race.

Sadly they keep bickering among themselves; probably the down side of having too many sub-races is that you constantly want to prove that your sub-race is superior.

Probably similar to racism on earth?

They hate human race the most though.

3. Elves have the best agility.

We are considered the best archer and the fastest spell caster.

We have limited number of sub-races: the white elves (have white skin), the sun elves (yellow skin), the night elves (dark skin), the moon elves (blue skin), the blood elves (red skin), and the wood elves (green skin).

We have the longest life span of all major races.

The down side is that our fertility is lower and we have inferior strength and as a result our heavy armor class is inferior to other races.

We hate orcs (not me though, I don’t know why, maybe because I have several memory as human?).

4. Orcs have the best strength.

They are considered the most feared berserker and have more vitality than other races.

They are also the most fertile and quick growing race.

Their offspring require almost none of training to be able to use their own choice of weapon.

Their weakness are their magician and archers are somewhat inferior, they usually lacking in speed and agility though some experienced orcs are a match of human or even elves in term of speed.

They also have lower life expectancy though maybe because of their tendency to charge head-on to enemies.

Orcs are famous for very brave or very stupid. I guess a bit of both.

They also hate us usually.

5. Dwarves have the inner talent for metal working and inventing.

Though lacking in height, and somewhat slower than other races but they can compensate it with superior arms and machines.

Their magicians are different than other races in terms their magicians mostly use runes and enchanted weapons rather than raw magic like other races.

They hate the beastman.

6. Beastman have superior talent depending on their sub-race.

Having the most sub-races beside demon race, their sub-race is famous of having utilized unique weapons and armors depending on their sub-race.

Many of the beastman choose to fight bare-handed and no armor though, believing in their inherent weapon and armor.

Several of their sub-races also famous for having a strong affinity magic.

They shun the dwarves and consider them as much more inferior since the dwarf’s inherent physical ability is much inferior to the beastman.

Equipped with rune weapons and armor though, the dwarves are more than a match to any beastman.

Well, that just makes the beastman label them as cowards who rely on their weapon alone.

To be fair, no other major races are able to compete with the beastman in terms of inherent physical ability except some of the demon sub race.

My first birthday party is very eventful, my parent invites the entire village much to my discomfort since they keep tossing me around. Just try imagine being an elder and get tossed around.

I didn’t cry though since I would like to appreciate my parent’s effort.

At long last the party is over and I got the best birthday prize. But not from my parent.
