The sound reverberated through my head with a tone of urgency and severed all remaining thoughts about my fight with Ques. It is replaced with the need to leave immediately. It is time to go back. Don’t ask me how I know what the sound meant, I just instinctively knew that it signifies the calling of us younglings. A look to my left, at Ques, confirmed my suspicions. I threw away my rage and urged a ceasefire, stressing the importance of heading back first. She quickly agreed to put a halt to our brawl and got up to leave immediately.
We wordlessly left the burrow, leaving our gathered food behind. Although I would have preferred to build a barrier or some sort of protection around our base, but we had absolutely no time to do so. Plus it should be unlikely for anyone to find our supply of food, so we left without covering up the entrance as well. I mean, Ques and me would have done that, but we cant. I can’t stress the importance of reaching there on time. What if we were late? Our parents would just assume we were dead and leave us here. The call practically told us younglings that we had to get our asses to them ASAP or else they would abandon us. So how could we waste time on hiding our base? I rather loose all the food gathered than loose my ticket home.
With that being said, we started our journey to the west, towards the direction of the sound. I have to say that this last part was harder than the first part of this survival course. We had to rush back while maintaining stealth, a thing quite hard to do, especially for me. The colour of my scales created too much contrast against the colour of tall grass or the dried leaves, I could be spotted from a mile away. This lead to me needing to dodge multiple attacks and run away from quite a number of predators. Ques on the other hand didn’t get spotted that often. It was already quite dark, so she managed to blend in and evade detection. Thankfully, we met a few of the other Lezas on the way back, increasing our number and forming a group. Although it was harder to remain stealthy, the number of predators willing to attack us decreased because it was harder to fight a group. Little did they know that we would leave anyone hindering us behind, we would sacrifice one of the others to guarantee one’s safety. In fact, I was willing to bet that most of us would be at each other’s throats if it weren’t for the call.
Although we hardly communicated with each other, we managed to cut down rest time pretty efficiently, spending longer time traveling instead of resting. After a long period of walking, we finally reached an area dense with fog. With a closer look, we could see that we are at the bottom of an extremely tall mountain and that many other Lezas have gathered here. Looking around, I noticed the number of Lezas have decreased significantly from the number of Lezas during the naming ceremony. A number of hundred over hatchlings have decreased by half over a period of one night, weeding out a lot of the weak ones. I was shocked by the number of Lezas that have died, more than 50 of us have died, are we a weak race? Or are there so many Lezas that are weak.
I was still contemplating my race’s strength when I heard my mother call out to me. I turned around to see that ugly mug… I mean pleasant face of hers. She had a warm smile that did not fit her and carried multiple of my siblings. She quickly grabbed me and placed me on her back, separating me from Ques. I wanted to say goodbye or something friendly to her, but her mother brought her to another place along with her siblings. I saw that more than half of my siblings have survived (9), including my pesky golden sister. I was about to start showing my superiority comparing our stats, then my mother started explaining what the motive of this trial was. From what she said, I learned that this was to test how quickly we can adapt, to grow out of dependency. Mother said that this was the most skill to have, as we will need to adapt in various situations, like battle. She also said that this is the trial where most of the Lezas die, due to their inability to adapt quickly enough. She claimed that we should be proud of ourselves, as many of us have survived this year. According to her, only less the a third of us hatchlings would survive and that we are the bumper crop. She started droning on and on afterwards, about the schedules of the remaining week before the second course. Apparently we will learn more about the geography of this area and the knowledge about this world. She also mentioned that the survival course will get longer and longer.

I couldn’t really pay attention to what she was saying by then because I was feeling very drowsy, I couldn’t even see straight anymore. My mother must have noticed this, saying that we all should just close our eyes and sleep now, and that we are gonna have a big day tomorrow. But before she finished talking, I already blacked out.
Mysterious silhouette’s POV-
I’ve been monitoring the progress of the being previously named John Xavier. It seems like the trauma of death has caused a scar on his soul, making his current mind-set the way it is. This trauma looks like it has somehow followed to his current body although not carrying the memories, causing him to carry traits and behaviours opposite to his old one.
Although I have figured out and analysed the problem with him, I was still surprised how much of a greed ball he turned into, making me really want to remove the blessing I gave him. Too bad I am not allowed to do that, but I still can’t allow a greed ball to carry a blessing of humility, so I decided to tamper with his soul. Normally, fiddling with someone’s soul would cause the higher ups to issue big penalties, but I was helping to heal his traumatised soul, making sure that the trauma doesn’t override his real intentions. I can help to clear up his greed, but it won’t completely subside, however it should be easily passed of as a strong determination or will. Depending on the situation. Although healing and repairing souls are OK with my bosses, I would still have to fill in a fucking form to my boss about his case and my reasons. Sigh, this guy is really causing me so many problems. Furthermore, he even learned how to activate the sacred stone! With pure luck! What the hell? How lucky can this guy get? Thankfully this matter won’t get me into trouble with my bosses because I can choose who I give the sacred stones to, but I ideally wanted to give the to the righteous people.
Nonetheless, I have to admit that this guy is pretty interesting. Having the blessing of humility, activating the stone by pure luck and gaining a golden insignia, his future prospects does look bright. I even checked it, there is a possibility of him ascending to our ranks. I can see that he will cause a multitude of problems in the world he is in, just so happens I’m in charge of that planet too, lucky me. Four days of birth and already causing me problems, what else will he do?
Notes-
Here is the second chapter I promised. I know my chapters are still quite short, but I am working on it. I’ll try to release at least one chapter every week and make I’ll try increasing the length of my chapters.
