I yawned as I woke up to a melodious harmony of birds chirping. Wait. Birds? I quickly sat up to look at my surroundings. Dammit, time out. Why am I in a forest? I thought I was in my room last night? Yeah, I’m pretty sure I was in my room. Why the hell am I in the forest right now? I continued to ponder upon my horrible luck, and then I noticed my siblings and devil mother nearby.

I was about to question my mother and ask her why we were here, but before I managed to even open my mouth, she started talking. She said that today is one of the survival test days, she brought all of us here when we were asleep in order to get here faster without waking us up. She mentioned that there are no rules for this survival course and that we are only required to survive for the duration of this course (2 days). She then looked and me and said while smiling, “Killing is allowed here, we only need the strong.”

I panicked and took a few steps backwards. That smile is so damned scary, is she still mad at me for causing a scene yesterday? Or could she be happy to endanger her child that found out the secret about the conspiracy? Either way, I will survive and uncover this stupid facade of the royal family.

Mother said her final ‘farewells’ and wished us ‘good’ luck before she left. Yeah. So… now what? The others started grouping up to survive, but should I join them? Hell no! The weak will just group up on me, I’ll go solo. I don’t trust my siblings enough. My siblings didn’t seem disappointed at my departing, maybe they are scared of me? Not that I mind.

I looked at my status again, checking if anything changed overnight.

Meh. No changes. Except for my name update. I guess I would need to gain lots of levels during this survival course. I’m hungry anyway. I started crawling on all fours now, hiding myself in the tall green grass. My skin colour might be an issue though, dammit. Why must I be this unlucky? Anyway, I crawled around he area, looking for things to eat. After quite a period of walking, I stumbled across a fellow Leza. It was a grey female hatchling from a minor house. I quickly pounced on her, sinking my teeth on her tail. She had pretty good reflexes, immediately swinging her claws to my head after biting her. Too bad I was faster, I smacked her claws away with mine and let go of her tail. I proceeded to rake my claws across her face and body. She was blinded from that as the blood kept pouring into her eyes, making her stumble about. I then smashed her head onto the ground ending her struggle.

The mysterious sound appeared again, followed by the weird blue thing.

I started ripping chunks of her meat out to eat. I gazed at her flesh longingly. Did she have to die so fast? I mean, she was a good fighter; she was leagues above that silver brother that I killed the other day. My brother is a disgrace to be worse than a Leza of a weaker house, much less an ordinary one. Upon finishing my meal, I quickly got up to look for more food, receiving the notification that I am 15 exp away from reaching level 3.

I scouted the area and found a few more grey Lezas. I didn’t kill these ones as they were in a group and would have been troublesome. Likewise, they didn’t attack me, probably because I am a variant. I started getting confident that there were no predators around this area, so I started walking on my hind legs instead. I couldn’t find anything around this area, so I decided to climb a tree to gain vision of this area. I picked the biggest and tallest tree and started scaling it. It was very time consuming as the bark was quite slippery for some reason. When I was near the top, I found a gigantic nest on one of the branches, so I decided to check it out. To my surprise, I found 7 eggs of half my body size. I tried inspecting them, but I couldn’t find out what they were, so I decided to gobble them up.

A multitude of notifications signifying my growth appeared after eating those eggs. Holy crap! These golden crest eggs are awesome! I got so much exp just from eating them! Imagine if they were hatchlings and I killed them, I would’ve gained tons of exp! I decided that I should find more of these eggs and eat them over the next day. I looked around the tree I was on and found 4 more nests with a total of 25 eggs. I didn’t eat anymore at that moment because I wanted to see if they would hatch soon, if they didn’t, I could always eat them before I leave.

I decided to curl up on the first nest to have a nice afternoon nap. I threw the eggshells off the tree and snuggled right in the middle of the nest. The exposure of sunlight to my skin warmed my body up and made it quite cosy, so cosy that I immediately dozed off.

When I woke up, I immediately knew something was wrong. I have only slept for a short while, why would it be so cold already? I looked up to see a gigantic figure the size of my mother blocking the sunlight from me. I took a few slow steps backwards and looked at the figure again. It kind off resembles a gigantic eagle. The textbox above its head proved my suspicions.

Level: ??? Empress Golden Crested Eagle(Female)

I looked at it again. Empress? Golden Crested? Unknown level? At that instant, I knew that I fucked up. The eagle seemingly noticed my distress gave a terrifying screech. Ugh. Spit got splattered all over my face and blinded me for a second. I knew I had no chance of survival against this eagle, so I ran out of the nest and off the tree.

Jumping off a 100 metre tall tree probably wasn’t the best idea I’d ever had, but it was the best option I had. I screamed my lungs out as I fell, wildly flailing my arms trying to grab something that can break my fall. I crashed into many branches, which slowed the speed I was falling at but didn’t stop my fall. I closed my eyes and made my last prayers before I suddenly came to a halt. I opened my eyes and saw that my face was less than a finger’s distance to the ground and gulped. What has saved me was a vine that I seemingly got tangled up in while falling.

I quickly untangled myself from the vines and ran towards the roots of a tree. I found a burrow under one of the roots and I dived into it without hesitation. Anything is better than facing that eagle. When I was inside the burrow, I looked back out to see if the eagle was still chasing me. It seems like the eagle didn’t bother chasing me, maybe it thought that I would have died from the fall? Whatever, I let out a breath of relief and inspected the burrow I was in. It seems pretty empty. Wait, who is that Leza at the corner?

Oh well well well… You wouldn’t believe who I just saw.
