Re: Ascension Rebirth – It is necessary to prepare before a big celebration
Chapter VII
PART ONE
[Eternum Calendar - Year 988]
Giving Lina and her mother some time for their reunion, I decided to leave. Of course that wasn’t the only reason, I had another important mission to accomplish in this city; rescue Elise Noire.
In an attempt to refresh my mind and think of possible solution I wandered around the city. The sights of many different landmarks and culture was exhilarating, it was also good to know your surroundings in case of emergencies, for example if I were to be chased after rescuing Elise.
As I was standing in a cool, shady area observing the city, I soaked in the culture of this world. It really was like I had just been thrown into an RPG world, heck I might not even be that far off from the truth, after all I have this [interface] ability. That being said, this place had many different facilities that you would find most prevalently from games; blacksmiths, weaponsmiths, merchants, vendors, unique cuisine restaurants, inns, taverns, town squares, adventurer guilds.
The streets were busy and filled to the brim with many different kinds of people and races. The most predominant being [Humans] followed by [Elves] then a minimal amount of those from different races; [Therianthropes], [Titans], [Spirits] and [Faeries].
Incidentally the median level range was from 20 ~ 30 depending on the individual’s race and job.
It was amusing to see adventurers adorned with different kinds of equipment walking about and talking about their plans. The entire city was loudly going about their business, but for some reason I didn’t hate it, it was quite relaxing; I felt like I could just drown in the noise and lose consciousness.
It reminds me of my old world. Everyone was always up to something, always so quick to go about their business. In this world, it’s similar but it looks like everyone is enjoying themselves. If I could I would rather bring [Erin] to this world rather than going back myself.
I solemn smile etched across myself as I closed my eyes, calming myself in the noise of the busy masses. It soothed me; it distracted me from my problems. I breathed in the city’s scent and sat myself down against a wall in meditation.
* * *
I don’t know how long I had been closing my eyes for. I had been shifting in and out of consciousness, perhaps it was due to all the traveling I did in the past 4 days, or maybe it was simply that my seven year old body wasn’t accustomed to the change in environment and was fatigued.
However, I had fully regained consciousness as I noticed that someone was standing in front of me. I still had my eyes closed but I could feel their presence through my passive skill [life force sensory]. I pretended to be asleep for a bit more to scout out what their actions would be but they had simply just stood in wait for me to wake up.
Seeing as how continuing my actions wouldn’t accomplish anything if that was their response, I decided to initiate the first dialogue. I slowly opened my eyes and was met with a blinding silver figure.. Decked in ivory armor, down to her tower shield and claymore was a woman; a paladin, or so it seemed.
Her hair was a null color, pure white. Her azure eyes were sharp and were full of determination. She did not say a word and simply waited for me to talk. At this point many different hypothesis went through my head as to who she was and what she wanted from me.
She hasn’t attacked so I can probably rule out that she’s a hostile target. She was waiting for me perhaps indicating that she has a level of respect for my actions. Unbreaking eye contact, so she probably wanted something of me.
I concentrated my gaze to hone in on her title.
[Chrom. Level 45, Homunculus Warrior]
Homunculus. Demon. Ah, I see, one of [Kyrios’] minion then.
“You are, Chrom?”
I spoke out, and as I did she looked back with a surprised expression. After a few moments she regained her composure and started to speak in a soft but determined voice.
“I apologize for interrupting your mediation, Lord Morgant. As you have revealed I am indeed known as [Chrom], I serve under Lord Kyrios but he has transferred over my ownership to you for a temporary duration. Please command me as you see fit.”
‘Lord Morgant’? ‘Transferred over ownership’? I felt a little guilty that I merely accepted Kyrios’ request on a whim when she was taking it so seriously. I guess I should play the role of the boss then and take it more earnestly.
If I recall correctly Kyrios said that his minion failed a mission in this city and wanted to correct things. I guess this would be her. She had a rather distant look on her face, I felt that there was some sort of personal attachment to this mission for her. However, unless it affected the mission directly, it was none of my concern, she’ll have to sort out her own emotions on her own.
A level 45 huh? And a [Homunculus] at that. I mean homunculi are those right? Immortal undead created through alchemy. Either way, she was at least 20 levels higher than the average person in this city, of course that’s if we exclude [Praetorian Knights] who border around level 50.
Still… this girl: Chrom, her life force was rather unique amongst everyone that I had scanned with my [life force sensory]. Was it because she was a homunculus? It wasn’t exactly none existent but it was, how should I say it; if normal life signals were positive, her life signal would be a negative.
“Eh?”
Since I was on a slightly elevated surface we were standing face to face. Unconsciously my hand went to her face, she was a little unprepared for my sudden actions but she did not resist. Was it because I was now her superior? Well, that works out for me, because usually when I touch something I get a slightly better reading from my [life force sensory].
“Sorry, I just wanted to examine your life force a little. Please stay still.”
“I understand.”
She stood there like a statue as I continued to scan and survey her life force. This sensation that I could feel from observing her life force, it seemed oddly malleable… tangible.
“Just a second.”
I closed my eyes and concentrated even further. By closing out my environment I could focus much more deeply into her. If I had to compare, ordinary life signals would be like a gentle breeze, but her life signals was like a gentle breeze from a fan; an artificial construct, then it stands to reason that I may be able to recreate it.
Right, if I use some of my own life force as a medium… infuse it with necromancy… shape it into a human figure…
It should be possible to…
Suddenly green lightning hit the ground in front of me. It started to shake a little and suddenly a metal gauntlet burst out of the ground. It then pulled up its entire body out of the floor, like it was some sort of horror movie.
What dug itself out of the floor was a 2.3 meter tall [Skeleton Knight]. Adorned with colors opposite Chrom’s, deathly black metal covered its body. It’s helmet with a Y shape cut out for the eyes, revealing behind it was clearly a skull and in its socket where eyes should be was a crimson glow.
Helmet, chest plate, gauntlet, greaves, as though the armor was made of death and not metal, it gave off a ghastly appearance, haunting anyone whose eyes befell upon it. The center of the chest plate was slightly exposed, revealing a series of menacing rib cages and in the center was a red light; its artificial soul.
In its right hand was a black sword, in its left hand was a black tower shield.
Suffice it to say, it was the complete opposite of Chrom’s divine white figure.
[New skill acquired: [Summon - Skeleton Knight(Active)]]
[New skill acquired: [Anti-Life Gambit(Sub Skill)]]
[New skill acquired: [Intimidating Roar(Sub Skill)]]
[New skill acquired: [Shield Charge(Sub Skill)]]
[New skill acquired: [Fortification(Sub Skill)]]
This was my first necromancer-like skill that I had acquired. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t enjoying this situation a little.
When the skeleton knight appeared the town square was in disarray. People were panicking and running away, thinking that a monster had appeared in the middle of the city. In hindsight I think it would’ve been better to experiment on this someplace else but I let curiosity get the better of me.
The city’s guards and adventurers lined up in preparation to battle, which gave me an idea. I didn’t really like using people as guinea pigs but the Skeleton Knight took its level from me so it shouldn’t be powerful enough to defeat the opposing fighters.
“Lord Morgant, did you-?”
“Chrom, we’re backing up a bit. It would be troublesome if they linked that skeleton with us.”
Following my orders she and I blended into the crowd and watched. For now since I didn’t issue any orders to the skeleton the guards were all just standing guard and waiting, giving me an opportunity to read up on the skill description.
[Summon - Skeleton Knight: Summons a defensive knight to aid the summoner. It’s attack power and defensive capabilities are derived from the summoner’s [Strength] stat.]
[Anti-Life Gambit: Order the Skeleton Knight to explode causing massive damage in the area around it. Can only be used when Skeleton Knight has been summoned.]
[Intimidating Roar: Order the Skeleton Knight to shout out, lowering the defense, attack and speed rate of the enemy who are lower leveled or have low mental resistances. Can only be used when Skeleton Knight has been summoned.]
[Shield Charge: Order the Skeleton Knight to charge with its shield in front causing massive blunt force damage. Can only be used when Skeleton Knight has been summoned.]
[Fortification: Order the Skeleton Knight to drop its offensive stats and double its defensive stats. Can only be used when Skeleton Knight has been summoned.]
Hmm~ I see. Well it’s convenient that I invested quite a bit into my [strength] stat then. Alright, let’s see how it goes. I tried sending orders telepathically to the skeleton and as I had expected it moved accordingly to my whims.
It took a small step forward putting the guards into a defensive posture.
“KWAHHHH!!”
It unleashed an ungodly roar across the city. Since the skeleton and I were only level 15 and the guards were around level 25, it didn’t have as much of an effect, although some of the people standing in the gallery became scared and ran away.
I felt a little guilty… well can’t be helped.
“Stand your ground men!”
One of the adventurers, a warrior, called out. It looked like he was the leader of the group fighting my skeleton. He looked fairly tough, though his level was only 29. The other members of his party, an archer, a mage and a cleric, along with the rest of the city guards fell into his command.
Actually there was a small icon under his title that read [Commander Aura]. After inspecting the icon I found out that it was a leadership type passive ability that provides a small stat boost to those who follow under his command. It was a [Knight/Warrior] oriented passive ability.
“Attack! Quickly!”
The warrior ordered.
Two sword wielding fighters got close and started to hack away at my skeleton but unexpectedly, even though there was a bit of level difference, their attacks did no real damage. Not even a single scratch was on my skeleton… what monstrous defensive stats, well I guess it wasn’t called a ‘defensive knight’ for no reason huh?
The skeleton moved accordingly even without being issued any orders, to defend itself with its large tower shield. It seems that if I don’t issue a direct order it will move according to self preservation, of course if I ordered it to stand still it would do so and receive the hits without resistance. Truly a convenient wall type summon.
“Uwa! We can’t get through its defenses!”
The two fighters screamed.
“Stay calm! Archer, ready your bow. Mage provide the Archer with elemental boosts to his weapon. Cleric, you too, further enhance his weapon with [holy] attribute].”
The three underlings of the Warrior gave a hearty nod and did as he said. With me being the curious type I wanted to test out the Skeleton Knight’s maximum potential so I was planning on letting it receive the full brunt of the attack. I gave them time to prepare and once they finished even I could feel a subtle power emanating from that Archer’s bow.
This was going to be a power shot, I thought to myself.
The skeleton knight slowly raised its shield and prepared itself. When the Archer let go of the arrow it flew with a myriad of particle affects trailing behind it. As the arrow came into contact with the shield it exploded causing a huge smoke, temporarily blinding the fight.
As the smoke cleared I turned to look back. I was thoroughly impressed, the shield as half broken but my skeleton was still standing there, ready to retaliate anytime. Even against an opponent that was 10 levels higher and with additional buffs it was able to take that hit.
Confirming its defensive side I also wanted to test out its offensive capabilities but I wasn’t going to start attacking innocent guards. For now I had to be happy with the results of the experiment. When I undid the summon on the skeleton its armor and skeletal body disappeared into dust and its red soul ascended to the sky and dissipated.
Everyone in the town square was cheering on the adventurer party that ‘defeated’ the monster.
[You have gained (2) level(s)]
Without missing a beat an interface box popped up to inform me I have leveled up. Taking this opportunity I placed the 10 [status points] into [strength] since that powered up my Skeleton Knight’s attack and defense.
“Was that summon, perhaps milord’s?”
“Yeah, it was created using your life signal as a base. Sorry for that, it kind of feels like I’m violating your copyright.”
“Copy… right?”
Chrom tilted her head in confusion.
“It’s nothing, don’t worry. Now then, onto the main topic, but has Kyrios told you about the mission?”
She gave me a determined nod.
“Yes, in fact I was the one who requested it. So I am thankful that Lord Morgant has decided to accept it.”
“Well it’s no problem but about the way you address me. It’s not that I don’t mind but it will be troublesome when other people hear it so when we’re in the presence of other I want you to refer to me as simply ‘Morgant’.”
“I understand.”
She nods.
“Now then, about that girl: Elise Noire. How to go about rescuing her...”
I tried brainstorming ideas, but none of them were really that great of a plan. Actually they weren’t bad plans but just a little troublesome to set up. It’s obvious that no one likes the duke, perhaps I could use that to my advantage.
“Chrom, I’ll give you your orders now.”
“Yes!”
“It’s not that hard, just a little annoying but I want you to find out some detailed information on duke [Vista Calros]. Specifically things like how he treats his servants, what kind of reputation he has, what his connections are, things like that. It shouldn’t be too hard to find out if you ask around.”
“I understand, I will not fail you.”
“Alright, then I’ll meet you later tonight.”
She gave me a firm nod and left to conduct her task. I can’t only rely on my cold reading abilities, I have to conduct some hot reading as well if I want all this to go through smoothly.
PART TWO
After walking around for a bit more to finalize the plan in my head I returned to the earl’s estate.
‘Young master, are you alright?!”
The first thing I was met by was Lina’s warm bosoms against my face. She spoke in a frantic and worried voice, I guess it was a little cruel of me to leave without telling her but there was no way I could’ve interrupted her reunion.
“Ah yeah, I’m fine Lina.”
“Thank goodness you’re fine. I heard there was a monster attack in the middle of the city so I was getting worried.”
Already? Information traveled faster than I thought.
“Yeah, but the adventurers and the city guards took care of it; they were cool!”
“Geez, young master… please tell me the next time you are going out, I was so worried.”
“Aha~ sorry Lina.”
“So? Where did you go young master?”
“Just… some places. Actually there’s something I have to tell you about.”
“Something?”
* * *
“Eh?! You want to rescue [Elise Noire]?!”
Lina yelled.
After having gathered the key players, Lina, Dian and the earl, though I only needed the earl for now, I began to explain some of my plan in detail. I gave them a botched and ‘altered’ explanation of what really happened to duke [Ciel Noire] and who it was that was really responsible. The parts I took out were about the Chrom’s relation to the demon army, because that would make it a diplomatic incident and that would be troublesome.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
“Even if she really is innocent… young master is only a seven year old, and that pudgy duke is a high ranking noble.”
I can see worry in her expression; it’s not a face that I wanted her to make but it was inevitable.
“It is as Lina says, what can a mere seven year old, no that doesn’t even matter, what can anyone really do against that man? He’s vile and corrupt; evil incarnate, but that makes him all the more powerful.”
“Yes, that is something I know very well, but that is also all the more reason why he should be taken down. At this point, in his hubris he isn’t even hiding his corruption but flaunting it on the masses. It is at this time when his guard is the lowest that we should strike.”
“Boy… I cannot stand to let a child throw away his life for some delusions of grandeur and fantasies of upholding ‘justice’…”
Earl Lucius who was standing on the side, listening, interjected and supported Lina’s argument. Even though they may see me as a slightly smarter seven year old, I was still in this kind of body in the first place. An unnecessary handicap but I guess I’ll have to find some other way to convince the earl since his power is necessary.
I stood up and took a look around the study room we were in. the shelves were stack with old, dusty books and the smell of paper caught my nose. Then a particular book fell onto my attention.
“Earl… don’t you have a dream as well? Something that you want everyone to see?”
[Eternis’ true form] it read, written by the earl himself. I took a flip through some of the pages and instantly recognized what the contents were about. Since I was living in the country side I had not even considered what the general level of scientific knowledge the people of this world had, but I had a grasp of it.
“Of course I do, everyone has something like that, but what does this have to do with the current conversation?”
“It has everything to do with the conversation. Though I can’t really say it’s my dream but it is something that I was taught from a young age, granted I’m still very young but it was something taught to me by father. ‘Always uphold justice even if it means to take on suffering’. I’ve always lived with such sentiments and plan to continue to do so. What about you, earl? You believe this world is spherical yet no one believes you, will you submit and join the deluded masses or will you push forward with your ideals even if it means to be rejected?”
The earl paused to think about my words, no it wasn’t only the earl but Lina and Dian as well. To be honest even I couldn’t believe the words that were coming out of my own mouth; if the me from my previous world heard me spout such sentimental thoughts he would’ve scoffed at me, mocked me, even ridicule me for having such naïve thoughts.
But right now I can say it with my head held high; being the good guy… might not actually be too bad.
“… Still, we don’t have any evidence that Elise Noire is innocent, all such materials would’ve been destroyed by now.”
At his question I answered with a smirk.
“Why do we have to prove Elise Noire’s innocence?”
They all looked at me with widened eyes.
“Eh? Didn’t young master say he wanted to rescue Elise Noire? Then that means we have to prove her innocence right?”
I shook my head.
“No, we don’t need to do such a thing, all we need to do is prove the duke’s corruption. Elise’s freedom can just be an afterthought, the main thing we need to concentrate on is to convict the duke’s felony.”
“Just how do you plan on doing that?”
The earl asks with an uneasy voice.
“It’s simple, we just need a demonstration.”
The demonstration I was referring to wasn’t the act of showing the truth, but a public protest. A large one at that, we need everyone’s help, the entire city’s help. The duke’s voice may be loud and may extinguish individual voices, but when the voices are multiplied by many thousands then even the duke cannot silence them,
“Demonstration you say…”
I turned my gaze towards the earl.
“Yes, for this I need your help, in fact I need to borrow a lot of your power because I do not possess any of my own. Of course I cannot promise any sort of reward or compensation for your efforts and in the worst case scenario it will all be for naught, even still I can only beg for you help.”
I lowered my head towards the earl.
“Boy…”
Then something unexpected happened. Lina also lowered her head with my towards t he earl.
“Earl Lucius, please I also beg of your aid for the young master.”
“Lina…?”
The earl became troubled but we did not relent.
“All my life, I’ve never really been smart, to be honest I’m only here because of the good will of others. But the young master is different from the pathetic me, he was always able to get through with his own will and strength. Compared to me even now he is much more smarter and mature. If it wasn’t for the young master I would never have gotten over my depression and I would never have been able to reunite with my mother. The young master would never request for something unreasonable, the fact that he is asking for something beyond his power simply means that he believes that with your help it is possible. So please, help the young master.”
The earl gave out a defeated sigh as he listened to Lina’s heartfelt speech. Even I was shock at the kind of things she was saying; to think that that’s how she’s been seeing me all along, it’s rather embarrassing, but it’s also nice.
“I’ll at least hear out your plan.”
The earl told me.
“You have my gratitude.”
I replied with a smile.
PART THREE
After I had explained my plans to the earl I left for the duke’s manor. It wasn’t too far from here and walking there cooled my head and helped me think much more clearly in terms of what needed to be done.
The first was what I told the earl. His job, the job that I assigned to him was to stage a demonstration by tomorrow morning. He would use his servants to go around rallying people to gather up in front of the Tetrarch’s castle. Even if the Tetrarch has been turning a blind eye towards the duke’s action for whatever reason, he will not be able to deny this massive gathering.
Once the Tetrarch catches wind of what was going on, all the earl had to do was request a trial for the duke using my father’s name as a guarantor. It was a simple plan but those plans are usually the one that works the best.
As for me, my plan was to head into the duke’s manor and get into contact with Elise Noire and the other servants of the duke’s. They will be my main firepower when the trial comes, they will testify against the duke and with a huge crowd of angry commoners banging at the doorsteps of the Tetrarchy it would be next to impossible to let the duke get away.
Indeed, pressure was a scary presence.
Aside from the duke’s corruption the main point of the trial will be the murder of duke [Ciel Noire] and in such a case duke Vista’s main case was built around framing Elise Noire, however that won’t work so well because I’m going to have Chrom testify against that.
Once that’s over with it should be easy pickings.
* * *
Standing in front of the Vista estate, it was a little daunting, the obnoxious amounts of decorations posted around the place it was like he was flaunting his money. It wasn’t even set up in an elegant and welcoming manner like it was in earl Lucius’ manor.
This was disgusting. Not surprising for such a corrupt man to be so uncultured.
As I loitered around, one of the guards came up to me.
“What is it child? You should not be here.”
Through the darkness I could see the lone guard’s weary expression. Bags formed under his eyes and his overall body posture was bad. Who could blame him? After working so long under an oppressive and obnoxious employer anyone would be mentally and physically worn down. It wasn’t just him either, the other guards also had the same tired look, however this was an opportunity for me.
[Eliot. Level 21, gate guard]
Despite his level being higher than mine his mental resistances have been lowered greatly through the stress of the job. Not only that, I picked this time, night time because it was when most people are at their most vulnerable.
“Yes, of course… Mr. Eliot, but I must get in there at once. Won’t you let me?”
I asked him with the [Enchanting Voice] effect active.
As I had thought he had easily come under my control and paved the way in. Since I was accompanied by a guard none of the guards seemed to find anything odd about the situation. At most they asked who I was but I made the guard tell them I was an important guest of the duke’s.
Like that I was easily able to gain entry into the duke’s manor.
I was lead straight to the duke’s study. When we entered he had a puzzled and surprised look on his face. His study was filled with paintings of himself and expensive looking decorations, but oddly there wasn’t even a trace of literature.
“What is this? Why have you entered without permission?”
“I apologize for suddenly barging in like this, duke [Vista Calros] but there was a matter that I found that I must discuss with you so I came as quickly as I could.”
I answered him vaguely. Confused? Yeah of course he was. He sent out the guard that had been accompanying me and told me to spit out everything I knew.
“What is it child? I have no patience or mercy even to children so make it worth my while.”
I offered him a fake smile, just because I felt more comfortable with it.
“Yes, well you see my father was once a [Praetorian Knight] of the realm and I had always been taught to uphold truth, and that’s why I came, because I had come across a certain source of information that linked the death of duke [Ciel Noire] not to his daughters but to you. I wanted to verify it and make sure there was no inconsistencies thus I came here.”
To be fair none of that was a lie. They said the best lie is a distorted truth after all.
“What? It can’t be… I’ve made sure that I…”
He starts mumbling to himself in a decibel too loud to be called a whisper. I could clearly hear him say those words but he seemed to not care, just what is with this man? He can’t be this stupid and have made it up to the position of [internal affairs minister]. I was starting to feel that something was amiss with this entire situation but I had to place that thought on hold for now.
“Is something the matter duke Calros? Don’t tell me that information was correct?”
“Hmm? No, no of course that can’t be true. That girl was caught on top of her father’s corpse literally red handed. But, er, where did you hear that it was actually me who was the one who killed duke Noire? I mean it wasn’t me but such slander can’t go unpunished right? And you want to uphold the truth right? So tell me child.”
And the shark has taken the bait.
“It was rumor amongst the remnants of duke Noire’s servants. Of course as they’re of lower status they have no real power in their words and at best can only be rumor. So as the son of a former praetorian knight I am the only one with the power to make sure that information was accurate.”
I could see a sinister smile flash across the pudgy man’s face.
“I... I see, so you’re the only one with the power to make those words come true.”
“That’s right, like I said, the truth must be upheld so I came to check. I will continue to do a bit more investigation so thank you for letting me have a bit of your time. Then I will see myself out.”
As I stood up from the sofa I was sitting on I was stopped by the duke from leaving.
“W- wait. Before you go, aren’t you thirsty? Here let me offer you a drink.”
“Hmm? Oh, I wouldn’t mind if you offered any, thank you.”
The duke walked over to a little table and he started to prepare some tea. Actually it was blatantly obvious he was pouring some sort of powder into his drink, most likely sleep inducing drugs. It’s unlikely that he’ll kill me off since I’ve mentioned my father was a former praetorian knight, it would be troublesome for him if I died here. At best he’ll probably lock me up along with Elise until he figures out a plan to deal with me.
He placed a small cup before me. I smiled back at him as I thanked him and drank from the cup. As I did a small interface box popped up.
[Harmful substance has been detected within user’s body. [Toxin Resistance] now in effect… lowering harmful effects by 90%].
Well, 90% that’s a pretty huge mitigation rate. I guess the duke was using a cheap brand of sleep medicine. In any case, because of [toxin resistance] the sleep medicine had almost no effect on me, at best I felt a small amount of drowsiness but nothing I couldn’t power through easily.
However, my plan was to get into the place that Elise was being kept at. For that I guess I should act the part and pretend to fall asleep. If I need to I can retaliate at any given moment since I wasn’t really asleep.
I pretended to get drowsy and swayed my head from side to side, slowly.
“Oh? Are you tired? If you are I don’t mind if you rest up in my manor.”
“No, I’m quite fine, I can’t trouble such a venerable man like yourself. I will not be a hindrance to you any further than I have been already.”
“Haha~ nonsense, children shouldn’t worry about such things. Don’t worry you are not a hindrance, in fact I’m amazed that someone so young has the heart to uphold justice. So please rest your small head in my manor for the night and tomorrow morning you shall be returned to your father’s side.”
He was sounding a little desperate.
“Well… if you say so then I shall take up on your offer.”
I pretended to close my eyes and fall asleep on his sofa. As I did he called in one of the guards and gave the order to take me down into the dungeon to have me locked up with Elise Noire.
Seriously, this man is too easy to read. There really must be a third party behind all of this, I just can’t see him rise to power on his own. I know this world didn’t really run on a democratic system but this man was too dumb to top all of the other nobles who was gunning for his position.
I guess I’ll have a nice long think about it down in the dungeon.
* * *
When I was brought down into the dungeon I was immediately bound by my wrists. The dungeon was barely even lit, the sound of trickling water could be heard in the distance and because of the acoustics of this place it echoed through creating an ominous aura.
I didn’t look like any other prisoners were here, just me and Elise… somewhere around here. As I was thinking a chilly night breeze entered through the open window and because of the stone floor it only accentuated the cold. I didn’t have any sort of cold or temperature resistance so this was really a pain. I was starting to feel sorry for the girl who had been locked down here for so long.
Speaking of Elise where is she? I couldn’t see too far into the distance but she should be in here. I concentrated through my [life force sensory] to check and found a life signature coming from behind me.
“W- who’s… is someone… there?”
I heard the voice of a girl coming from behind me.
Bingo.
