[Booting System…]
As my consciousness came back to me I stood before a great black void with the only thing to keep me company being incomprehensible, mechanical words that were more suited to be on a computer monitor.
In the first place what does this even mean? [Booting System]? Not only that, these words were clearly in front of me and weren’t some sort of imagination on my part. Hologram perhaps?
Curious, I tried passing my hands through them and it certainly was incorporeal as my hands were able to pass through them without objection. This only serves to create more questions than it does to actually answer them. Technology shouldn’t be so advanced that we have holograms, no that shouldn’t be the biggest problem right now. My biggest issue is about where I was, it was complete darkness but I don’t think I was blind considering I could see letters.
The ground also feels non-existent, like I was floating around in space.
Just as my questions were piling on top of each other I felt my body becoming heavier and heavier, like I was being pulled into gravity from space. I was being pulled upwards and there was a light at the end of the tunnel. Could it be? That I’m dying?
No, I guess that wouldn’t make much sense, the dark void I was in was more reminiscent of a state of death and this is more similar to that of being pulled back to life.
As I reached the bright white light, color started flooding back into me, but it was too fast and I had become temporarily blinded, not only that it freaking hurt. I couldn’t hear anything either, this feeling was horrible.
However before any of that I found myself unable to breathe as something was caught in my throat.
Cough, cough.
Violently coughing I spewed out a mouthful of water. It didn’t taste like salt so it probably wasn’t seawater. That reminds me, I was drowning at the bottom of the lake, it could be water from that.
Taking in a breath of fresh air, my lungs started to work as intended and I could even feel the rapid beating of my heart return to a stable pace, at the very least this means that I wasn’t dead.
The pain in my body had disappeared, even my chest that should’ve been destroyed beyond repair with medical science had mysteriously been healed.
The next of my senses to return to me was my auditory senses. I could hear the chirping of birds, signifying that it was around early morning to late afternoon, though I guess that doesn’t explain much.
Soon after the temporary blindness was also starting dissipate and my vision was starting to return to normal as well. Looking around I could see that I was in some sort of cave and outside the cave entrance was a crystal clear, blue lake. The water marks leading me probably denoting that I was dragged out by someone or something.
However that wasn’t the only thing that had appeared in my vision. Strange, technical language and holographic User Interface like boxes appeared as well.
It read.

I tried reaching my hand out to it but it went right through, actually my hand was a strange shape as well… it was smaller…
It was then that everything started to come back to me. Who I was, where I was, what had happened. When I finally figured that out tears had overtaken my eyes.
I had a strong urge to vomit right this instant but I held back the instincts to do so. However that doesn’t change the fact, I was alive… Why? No it wasn’t as simple as just being alive, I know who I am now, I was no longer [Aran Callahad] but [Morgant Fallon], the son of a lesser noble in another world.
Reincarnation.
This is a complete joke.
“Looks like you’re finally awake.”
A voice. A female voice. It sounded like it belonged to some grade schooler. When I turned to see who it was, I wasn’t quite sure how to describe her. The most apt way I could put it was that she was a loli demoness.
Around 130cm tall, crimson hair, crimson eyes, she had two protruding horns from both sides of her temple that curved to face the front. She wore a frilly black and white dress. However her most noticeable features were her small bat-like wings and devil-like tail.
Cosplay? No, that wasn’t quite right, of course not I hadn’t forgotten where I was. This place wasn’t Earth, from my memories of this body this world is known by its inhabitants as [Eternis]. In this ridiculous fantasy world she really might’ve been a demon.
“Who are you?”
As the words exited my mouth and before she could even have a chance at answering, another opaque interface box appeared before her head, revealing her name, level and title in a fashion reminiscent of old MMORPG games.
[Astaroth De Signa. Level 145, Demon Lord].
She stood up and puffed up her non-existent chest.
“Huhu~ be amazed, I am [Astaroth De Signa] the [Demon Lord] of the [Vertloch Continent]!”
The system had already informed me of her name so I couldn’t be as ‘amazed’ as she wanted me to be. Digging through the memories of this body I recalled that the [Vertloch Continent] which was also known as the [Northern Continent] was located at this world’s most upper part of the northern hemisphere.
The Demon Lord, huh? Many RPGs in the olden days used to have such beings coded into them. The player would take the role of the hero to defeat the ultimate evil that was supposed to be the Demon Lord and once they did, peace would be brought back to the world. However seeing someone like this, I just couldn’t envision her as someone that would bring terror to the world.
The most she looks like she could do is disrupt the neighbourhood lemonade stand. If I had to actually compare, my old self would be more suited to be the Demon Lord.
“I see… so what does the Demon Lord want with someone like me?”
“Hmm~ what an underwhelming reaction. Well whatever, be grateful as I have revived you from a near death state! How’s that? Are you amazed at my great powers?”
I see… so she revived me huh.
“… Hah… hahaha…. Hahahahahaha!! HAHAHAHA! Hahaha… haha… hah…”
“Mm~? Why are you laughing like that?”
“… Why did you revive me? Why didn’t you just let me die?!”
“Eh? I- I thought you would be happy that I revived you…”
“… Happy? No… Don’t fuck with me! I didn’t ask for this! I didn’t ask for any of this! Why?! Why was I brought here?! Why couldn’t I have just died back then? Why was I brought back to life to suffer even more… wasn’t just once… enough? I don’t want this anymore… I just want to rest…”
Every time I utter another word images of my past life begin to flood back to me. Images of the life I had with Erin. I couldn’t just stand here, staying here without even trying to get back that life was tearing me apart from the inside.
At my sudden outburst the small Demon Lord flinched backwards and kept quiet. I didn’t mean to direct everything onto her. Everything I had kept in had leapt out of me all in an instant. Watching me as I broke down into tears, she placed her small hands over my head and gently started to stroke through my hair to calm me down.
“Why…? God dammit… I want to see her… I want to see Erin… she was everything to me…”
It was at that moment I made a decision. No matter how long it would take. No matter what I have to do. No matter what… I will return to Erin’s side.
With that conviction I tried to calm myself down until I was limited to a silent weep.
It was the first time in both my lives that I had completely broken down as I did. I always had control over my emotions so once I completely lost it like this I didn’t know what to do. It was embarrassing and pathetic but at the same time it felt nice to be able to get the weight of my feelings off my shoulders.
I don’t know for how long I continued to cry but the small Demon Lord stayed with me the entire time. Without complaint and with her gentle hands she allowed me to calm down.
“Are you okay now?”
Still blurry from my tears I was met with the warm gaze of the large, puppy-like eyes of the Demon Lord. To continue to show her such a disgraceful moment of my life I felt a little disappointed in myself but at the same time I also felt a little happy she was there.
“Yes, I apologize to have shown you such an embarrassing side of myself. The stuff I said before, please heed no mind to it, it wasn’t meant to be directed at you. I was simply… overtaken by my emotions…”
I shook my head to banish out the remaining sorrow in my heart and continued.
“In any case I am grateful to you for having saved my life and staying with me through this. I will certainly repay this favor back to you somehow.”
“Huhu~ repay the favor back to me you say, that’s a rather interesting thought. In what way are you able to repay me?”
Despite her incredibly youthful sounding voice, the way she speaks… it’s like I’m talking to someone with a lot of age in their life. In this fantasy world I wouldn’t be surprised if she was a lot older than she looks but still, I wonder how old she really is.
Anyway, ‘how can I repay back a Demon Lord’ huh?
“If you wish, I can deliver the world to you.”
“Oho~ that’s a tall promise.”
Certainly that is a rather huge promise but it wasn’t like I haven’t accomplished something similar before, but that’s a story for another time. Besides, I wasn’t saying it for the sake of saying it, there was, of course, my own agenda hidden behind it. She said she was the Demon Lord and this weird interface ability also confirmed that. This means that she probably has some sort of army backing her up, if she were to accept my promise then I could use that to gain access to that army.
What do I need an army for? It’s simple, since I don’t plan to stay in this world for much longer than I need to, I will need to find a way back to my old world; a way of getting back to Earth. However right now I have no way of accomplishing that and no information on how to even start. So I need to start by scouring the world for that information and what better way than to make use of the Demon Lord’s army?
“Indeed, but it would not be my first time doing so.”
“Ho~ so you say you’ve already taken over the world at one point? Even though you a just a mere child?”
At her words reality came back to me. That was right, currently, even if my mind was that of an adult’s my body was still that of a child’s. With this kind of handicap what could I possibly do?
“Looks can be quite deceiving, I’m sure you of all people should understand that.”
It was a little back handed I suppose, I was poking fun of her size as well but that should bring home the message.
“Hahaha~ I don’t really need the world but I like you either way. Alright I’ve decided, I’ll make you into one of my [Generals]!”
Generals? Ah, now that I think about it old RPG games used to have such a system as well. Something like the 4 Heavenly Kings that you have to defeat before getting to battle the Demon Lord.
“Incidentally how many Generals are under your command?”
“Hmm? There are currently 4. You would make a 5th. Is there a problem?”
I don’t know, for some reason I get the feeling that ‘The 5 Heavenly Kings’ won’t seem as menacing as if there were only 4. Then again, even if I were to join I doubt I would have to play an active role in their little army so in reality it would actually be ‘The 4 Heavenly Kings + 1’. At least that’s the feeling I’m getting.
“No, there’s no problem. But are you sure you want to give me such a prestigious position? I haven’t done anything for you in fact all that’s happened is that you’ve saved my life.”
Astaroth stared at me seriously for a moment before returning to her normal, innocent and smiley expression.
“It’s fine, I’m sure in the future you will return that favor in one way or another. Besides, you don’t have to sweat the small stuff and just let these things happen as they do.”
“You’re very kind, almost to the point that I can’t really find myself accepting you truly are the Demon Lord.”
“Hah? Is that supposed to be a compliment or an insult?”
I placed my hands on her head, she was a taller than my seven year old body so it was a little awkward to do this but I felt like I wanted to.
“It was a compliment.”
“Well, whatever. Now stand still for a moment.”
She drew closer to my face and touched her lips with mine. At first I was taken aback but as though I were paralyzed I couldn’t move my body freely and just sat as she continued to kiss me. A small current of air circled around us as a small reddish magic circle appeared beneath us.
I could feel her tongue exploring around in my inner mouth. I honestly didn’t know what to make of this situation, should I feel aroused? Should I just stand still? What should I do?
I opted to take the second option and just sit still until she was done.
“The ritual has been completed, you will now serve me as one of my [Generals].”
She held up my right hand and when she did a small red magic circle with the symbol of an eye appeared on top; a mark to prove that I was no one of her [Generals]. After a while it had disappeared deep into my skin.
To be completely honest I didn’t quite like the fact that I was working for someone else but this was a two way deal. I have no true power of my own but I will be able to borrow hers, in exchange I will offer her my intellect. A fair exchange if I say so myself; yes, I think my intelligence is worth an entire army.
“Now then, you do not need to pledge yourself to me but I would like to know a bit of your personal goals. It would help us get along better.”
She asks. I do suppose she has a point, in order for a proper employee/employer relationship to come to fruition they must understand what kind of person the other is.
“My personal goals, is it? Well, I guess there won’t be too much problem in telling you. I am going to find a way to traverse worlds.”
“Traverse worlds? Can you elaborate?”
I shook my head, not because I didn’t want to answer but because I didn’t know too much on that topic.
“I’m afraid I cannot as I do not know much about it, but I believe there is more than just this world, somewhere out there is another world and I wish to go there… and once I do I will meet her again.”
“I see. As I thought you are truly mysterious. Well, that’s fine for now. Then do you have any special powers? Perhaps a unique ability that only you could use?”
Special ability? Well I guess this RPG like User Interface system that’s lurking in my brain can count as one but it’s about as useful as being able to see an extra color, if no one else can experience it, it’s useless to even try describing it.
“I’m afraid I have no such-“
Before I could finish my sentence a certain Holographic UI box appeared before my eyes.
[Please select a class]
[Magician]
[Knight]
[Assassin]
[Archer]
[Cleric]
[Necromancer]
[Brawler]
[Alchemist]
[Bard]
[Puppeteer]
“What’s wrong?”
Since I suddenly stopped talking, Astaroth got a little worried and looked towards me with nervous eyes.
“Ah… it seems I may just have a unique ability after all…”
That being said, being asked to choose from a series of classes right on the spot was a little hard.
“Please give me a moment.”
I asked.
“O- Okay.”
She gives me a nod and stared at me with great anticipation, to be honest it was actually putting me off, but whatever.
Let’s sort out the information first. These classes seem like the typical choices given out in old RPGs, while I don’t play too many games myself I do have some knowledge of old pixel RPGs so I should be able to deduce most of these classes.
Starting with the [Magician]. If I recall correctly there are three offensive type magic in this world; [Ice], [Fire] and [Lightning]. I think I’m safe to assume that the [Magician] class will be mainly utilizing these three types of magic. While it does sound tempting I’m honestly not the kind of person to be chanting spells and wearing robes so I think I’ll pass on this.
Then next we have the [Knight] class. In old games this class would probably be referring to a melee focused, defensive character, i.e. guardian or warrior. Speaking of which, the me before having memories expressed interested in following after my father of this world who was a prestigious knight of some order, the [Praetorian Knights] if I’m correct. Though with my true personality taking surface I don’t think I will fit this role very proficiently, I don’t particularly like front line violence either, if I had to chose I’d rather be the general issuing order from his tent.
[Assassins] are those right? Shadowy, ninja-like warriors? Though it does seem to fit my personality a bit more than the [Knight], like I said I prefer not to be on the front lines myself.
The [Cleric] is a classic that even I know about. Backline healers and are essential to any party, or so I’ve been lead to believe from those hellish, old dungeon crawlers. The fourth kind of magic that exist in this world is [Holy] type magic which specializes in healing. This class does fit my other pre-requisite of not being a frontline fighter but I’m not too sure on the whole ‘holy’ thing.
If I didn’t know any better, the [Necromancer] class was made solely for me. I don’t think any RPGs I’ve played ever had such a class, actually it was mostly a title reserved for enemy NPCs. Summoning skeletons and siphoning health from the players; a perfect description of the corporate world if you ask me.
As was the case with the [Knight] class I would prefer not to be a frontline fighter, which is exactly what a [Brawler] is, in fact that’s not even a class name it’s just a description.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
[Alchemist]? Unfortunately I don’t have too much knowledge on any [Alchemist] classes, aren’t they just filling in a similar role to the [Magician]? It’d probably be for the best not to choose from a class I know entirely nothing about.
[Bard], well I did know how to play the violin and piano back in my old world, though I don’t know if any of that transferred over. Most of it was just muscle memory but since this body is a completely new one I don’t think I retain my ability. Anyway, I’m guessing this is a type of support class that helps buff or debuff opponents with the power of music. As elegant as that sounds I’m not entirely sure if it’s a suitable class to be picking as a main role, it also seems to lack any kind of combat potential.
[Puppeteer], oh, another class that seems like it was made for me. Controlling puppets? I assume you’d be summoning puppets to do your bidding, if it’s going to be similar to the [Necromancer] class I’d rather pick that instead.
Normally in this situation I would rather go through each class’ stats more carefully to understand their pros and cons but I don’t exactly have the luxury to do that at the moment. Still, the [Necromancer] class is the most appealing to me right now so I guess it doesn’t matter either way.
I didn’t quite understand how this UI system was supposed to work so I simply moved according to my intuition and pressed the [Necromancer] tab to select the class on the option list. As I did a bright green light engulfed the area around me.
A sudden rush of negative energy started to swirl around me and by that I mean a sort of depressing feeling overcame my emotions. It was the first time that I’ve felt such an impressive amount of negativity, I felt like I was going to be crushed by it.
Directionless annulling emotions; compared to this feeling right now everything else bad in my life seemed to be a pleasant memory. However a few moments later this feeling started to dissipate as did the bright green light.
“Oho~ that was very bright. So did something happen?”
I checked my [Status Menu] to see if anything did change.
[Status Menu]
Morgant Fallon. Level 1
NECROMANCER
DEMON GENERAL
Strength: 5
Dexterity: 5
Magic: 5
Insight: 5
Agility: 5
[Status Points: 10]
The first thing to be noticed was the addition two extra titles under my name; [Necromancer] and [Demon General]. So that earlier ‘ritual’ she did really was my coronation to become one of her Generals.
“I became a [Necromancer]…”
I answered her question without much conviction; it still didn’t really set in what I had just done to myself. Even if this screen tells me that I had become one without any skills… ah, that’s right skills.
I opened my [Skill List] to check if something changed there and as soon as I did new interface boxes appeared, 4 of them no less!
[New skill acquired: [Life Force Sensory(Passive)]]
[New skill acquired: [Life Drain(Active)]]
[New skill acquired: [Wither(Active)]]
[New skill acquired: [Decay(Active)]]
After closing those boxes I immediately went to check.
[Skill List]
(PASSIVE) [Life Force Sensory]: Level 1
(ACTIVE) [Life Drain]: Level 1
(ACTIVE) [Wither]: Level 1
(ACTIVE) [Decay]: Level 1
Four new skills had been added to the list and conveniently placed next to the skill icons were small tabs that read [inspect]. Pressing on it in the same manner as I did for when I chose the [Necromancer] option a new opaque interface box opened up with a description.
[Life Force Sensory(Passive): Allows the user to sense nearby life force]
[Life Drain(Active): Drain HP from organic targets to deal damage and heals the user equal to the damage]
[Wither(Active): Drain HP from plant-based targets to deal damage and heals the user a small amount]
[Decay(Active): Drain the durability of inorganic targets to deal damage]
The descriptions of the skills weren’t too detailed but I got the general gist of it. I closed all of the tabs and tried to concentrate to test out the [life force sensory] skill. As the skill description read, I could definitely ‘feel’ the ‘life force’ of living beings nearby, the most prominent being Astaroth’s.
“So?! You say you’ve become a [Necromancer] but can you show me some your abilities?!”
In her eyes was the glow a child would have when asking their parents to buy them a new toy. For some reason I just couldn’t deny her request, well I also kind of wanted to test it for myself anyway.
“Alright.”
I picked up a small rock and ‘casted’ [decay] on it. After a few seconds it started to crumble and finally it turned to dust. It wasn’t the most intriguing of skill but it was proof of concept that I could use the skills as I thought I could.
Though Astaroth had a rather disappointed look I couldn’t simply start summoning skeletons or anything like that, as much as I wanted to.
“Sorry, I only just discovered these skills as well so I can’t do too advanced stuff yet, but don’t worry the next time we meet I have a feeling that I will be able to do more eye opening tricks.”
“I see, well that’s fine. It’s about time I left anyway.”
When we both stood up I truly felt the difference between our heights. She was about 130cm as I had previously guessed but I was even smaller as a seven year old, it kind of wounded my pride a little.
“I’d like to properly thank you for saving my life, twice no less.”
I lowered my head to show my deep gratitude. It was odd, every time [Yui] did the same thing in my previous life I would feel rather uncomfortable but now I truly understand what it’s like to show gratitude by lowering one’s head. My outlook on life back then was fairly small but I feel like I can start to see a little more from the perspective of other people.
“That’s fine but, I’ve only saved you once, from drowning I mean.”
“Eh? Weren’t you the one that was observing me from before? And you saved me from that [Boar Warrior] too right?”
She tilted her head in confusion.
“I did not, I only saved you from drowning.”
Wait… that’s odd then who was it that saved me from that Boar Warrior? It’s unlikely to think that it would stop itself from landing a fatal attack on me and wait til I killed it. I know someone else intervened that time, if it wasn’t her then who did that chilling presence I felt belong to? So then there’s someone else that I owe my life to?
As much as I’d like to inquire more into this I don’t have any data to go on right now and it doesn’t seem like Astaroth has any idea as well. I’ll have to ponder on it a little later.
“Anyway, like I said, I need to return to [Vertloch]. Oh and one last thing.”
“Yes?”
She paused to make a sad face but instantly returned back to her normal expression.
“Should you ever find yourself in great despair I want you to always keep sight of your true self, otherwise you will be engulfed in eternal darkness.”
“That’s a bit ominous but I’ll take it as a warning for something.”
She gave me a firm nod and disappeared in a shadowy effect. More than these skills, I’d rather have that one but perhaps I can get it later. For now it was time to return home… right home… I wonder how my parents and friends of this world will react to my change in personality.
My right hand move forward to the front of my face. I was about to push up my glasses but I realized I didn’t have any, ah, even though I shouldn’t have any muscle memories in this world, I guess old habits die hard.
This is a little unpleasant.
PART TWO
The first thing I felt upon arrival back at home was a warm embrace from the woman known as [Rio Fallon], my biological mother of this world. I wasn’t sure what kind of face I was making but I returned her embrace. Due to my special ‘circumstances’ it was hard for me to claim that I ‘love’ them as family members should, but I certainly do care for them, after all they are people who have treated the other me quite generously.
She, Lina and Lena cried as they held onto my tightly, thankful for my safe return.
I could also see several darg rings under ‘father’s’ eye, he must’ve also been quite worried. Sebastian, our butler, he seemed rather normal but he was only keeping up appearances, I could tell that he was also significantly worried during my absence.
[Rio Fallon]. [Mardoc Fallon]. [Lina]. [Lena]. [Sebastian].
They were my family of this world and until the day I find a method to return to my old world I will treat them with the utmost love and care as they too are owed a favor.
Not long after, [Ian] and [Ira] along with the head chief of this village [Oren] came over to our estate after hearing that I had returned safely. It was a little unexpected but Ian came crying to me as did Ira.
“After hearing what had happened from Ian, I’m quite amazed you were able to make it out alive. We sent a search party but couldn’t find you anywhere.”
The village chief asked. He was an old man with aging grey hair and a skinny build, but the scars in his face tell a different story. Perhaps at one point he was some sort of adventurer or something.
“Yes, actually I while I was escaping I accidently fell down into a deep ditch and lost consciousness for an entire day. Luckily that place was void of monsters and I was able to recover my stamina and safely escape from the forest.”
Of course that was a lie but I didn’t feel like exposing the fact that I met with the Demon Lord. I’m not entirely sure on the reputation of such a being in this world so it was probably a good idea to keep it a secret; they’re usually seen as the source of all evil in RPGs of my old world.
The local doctor came to have a thorough check up on me but he didn’t find anything out of place. The symbol of the Demon Lord that was supposed to be on my right hand had also disappeared and there was nothing to give out that I had received necromantic powers.
That night for some reason Lina had snuck into my room had slept close to me. It would’ve been fine if it was the old me but as I was now it was a little uncomfortable. Then again she was only 15 years old so it wasn’t like I had much of an attraction to her.
Still, she’s an odd one, she’s very open with her attraction to me, it was creepy but also refreshing in a certain way. Well as I see her now, she’s more like a younger sister to me.
PART THREE
“Father, I’d like you to train me.”
The next day after breakfast I had formally requested ‘father’ to train with me. He looked at me with a puzzled face.
Of course we normally trained in the way of the sword but back then I decided against choosing the [Knight] class. So then what was I asking to be trained at? I didn’t want sword training anymore, that was useless to me, what I wanted was combat training.
Someday I was going to leave this village to search for a method of going back to my old world but I know very well that out there are beings stronger than simple monsters like the ones I met in that forest. For that purpose it was necessary to know how to defend myself and to know how to use my powers.
“Train? Don’t we usually do that anyway?”
“Yes… no, I would like a different type of training today. You see father, back when I was in that forest something odd had happened to me.”
Mother, Sebastian, Lina and Lena who were in the vicinity stopped what they were doing and gathered to hear my story. Perhaps they were just worried that something awful had happened and wanted to help.
“Something odd? What do you mean, Morgant?”
I thought about it for a moment. Obviously I wasn’t going to reveal anything about my reincarnation or about my unique interface ability. However after thinking it through I thought it would be a good idea to discuss my powers of necromancy with a trained individual, like father.
I know he wasn’t a necromancer but he does have myriad experiences with combat and that was better than nothing.
“I… hmm, I’m not entirely sure how to explain this.”
“That’s okay honey, you can take your time, we’ll listen.”
‘Mother’ came close and sat down next to me.
“I guess it would be easier to say that I ‘awakened’ to a special power.”
“Awakened to a special power?”
Father parrots my words.
Since [Necromancy] is a type of power usually reserved for enemy NPCs in RPG I was going under the assumption that it also had a bad reputation in this world. Thus I wasn’t going to flat out say that I had gained the ability of [necromancy], just that I had a ‘special power’.
“Yes, I’m not too sure on what kind of power it is and it’s a little hard to explain. So if it’s okay with you I would like to demonstrate it in the field.”
By ‘field’ I meant the small open area we use for regular swords practice.
Agreeing to my proposal father and I, along with the rest of the family as spectator moved out to the back. Normally we’d bring our swords and mother would prepare drinks after we’re done, though this situation was a little different.
“So? What do you want me to do?”
Father asks.
“Well for starters I’d like you to throw rocks at me.”
He has a puzzled expression, well if your unarmed seven year old son is asking to be thrown at by rocks it would be a little difficult to follow up.
“Very well, if you say so then shall we start?”
I gave a firm nod as I stretched out my right hand.
He started to pick up a few rocks; not too big, not too small.
“Ready?”
I nodded once more, as soon as I did the first rock came flying at me with great speeds. At first I flinched but quickly regained my composure and started to concentrate. Just before the rock hit me I closed my palms in a squeezing motion.
The rock that had been launched at me exploded, leaving nothing but dust and smoke. It seems that I didn’t need direct contact to use [decay], though I wasn’t too sure on the effective range either.
“Ho~ that’s some power. I can see why you were hesitant to call it anything, even I’m not sure how to categorize it.”
Father said in a impressed tone, but in a sucker punch move he threw a rock when I wasn’t ready, I barely had enough time to execute [decay], however it exploded in my face temporarily blinding me. But father wasn’t done there he continue to throw rocks.
Tuning into my ears more keenly I tried to pinpoint the locations of the rocks and proceeded to [decay] them. I was able to destroy about half and the other half was a direct hit on me.
While it may have seemed unfair, this is what I wanted. I did want to experiment on my powers a little but I also wanted experience in real life combat scenarios. In real life, the opponent is unlikely to wait for me to get ready, so reacting to those rocks even at my most unprepared state was good practice.
After a while father was out of rocks and my side of the field had a bunch of sand piled up.
“Whew~ that was good practice. Still, I’m impressed by this new power of yours. Is it magic?”
I shook my head.
“I don’t know really know myself, it doesn’t feel like it’s magic.”
“I can attest to that as well. I felt no movement of mana during the entire exchange.”
Mother stepped in to comment. Right, she was a [Magician], so she would be knowledgeable about such things.
“Hmm~ I see. Still, it might be best if we look into this power a little more, it could become dangerous.”
“Yes, that’s why before that I would like to learn how to control it. Don’t you agree father?”
“Aha, you have a point there. Then shall we continue?”
He asked but I shook my head.
“I’d like to try something else, if you don’t mind.”
“Something else?”
I nodded my head and move my hands towards the flowers in the garden. I haven’t used any of the other skills yet so it would be good to try them as well. I concentrated on the target as I casted [wither] on the flowers. Soon they turned brown and shrivelled up but the more impressive thing was that I felt a little more rejuvenated.
I see, this is what it meant by ‘heals the user a small amount’.
Next I turned my sights on father, though I didn’t really want to try this but he should be able to withstand this.
“Father, this might hurt a little, are you prepared?”
He gave me a puzzled look before giving me a thumbs up.
Once again, like the flowers I concentrated and casted my last skill, [life drain]. I could feel it the life force of father seeping into me, though it wasn’t as much as I thought it would be, most likely due to the level difference between him and I.
Father had a slightly pained expression but nothing too major.
After I was done another interface box appeared before me.
[You have gained (3) level(s)].
Levels, huh. When I opened my [Status Menu] I noticed the number of extra [Status Points] had increased from 10 to 25 and my level had increased to 4. As much as I wanted to experiment with this a bit more I will wait until I was alone to do that.
“That’s was a rather interesting experience, what was it?”
“I believe it was a spell called [life drain]. I can drain the energy of other living beings to heal myself, at least that’s what I think it does.”
“Ho~ that’s the first time I’ve ever heard of such a spell. But you might need more than just my energy to prepare for what’s coming next.”
“What do you…”
“Morgant! What have you done?!”
I heard mother shouting at me angrily, at first I was perplexed but then I realized what I had just done to my mother’s precious flower garden.
“Ah! S-sorry mother! I didn’t mean to!”
“No dinner for you tonight!”
