Episode 2

Episode 2

Jack started to follow Lily and expressed his concern that she didn't answer his question about his whereabouts. In response, Lily told Jack that his father would be able to answer that question for him.

Jack then asked what had happened since his accident, but Lily insisted that his father would be better suited to answer that question. Jack then tried to ask Lily about herself, but before she could say anything, Jack sarcastically remarked that his father would provide him with more information about her.

Lily laughed and replied that Jack would have to wait for another time if he wanted to know more about her.

The two of them then stepped into an elevator and headed down to Floor 4. While in the elevator, Jack asked one last question:

“My arm... Was it necessary?”

Lily asked if Jack liked his new arm, and he responded positively by claiming that he liked it. She then explained that it had cost his father a lot of money, but it was important for Jack to be able to use both of his arms.

Upon arriving on floor 4, Jack was amazed by the sight that greeted him. The room was filled with monitors that watched over each district, soldiers who were ready for deployment, and Harry, who was in the middle of everything.

Lily's voice echoed through the room as she called out to Harry, who turned around to greet both Jack and Lily. Harry's face lit up with joy at the sight of his son.

“Doctor Hale... Jack, it is great to see you. How are you feeling?” Harry asked, concern etched on his face.

Jack replied with a smile, “I’m fine, Dad, just trying to process everything that has happened."

Harry chuckled. "Yeah. It will take some time to get used to the new arm, ha-ha,” he said, noticing the new prosthetic arm that Jack was sporting.

However, Harry quickly realized that Jack was struggling with something else. He knew that Jack had found out about his brother's death and was still trying to come to terms with it.

Lily, who sensed the tension between the two, took it as her cue to leave them alone to talk.

Harry did his best to comfort Jack, hugging him tightly and telling him, “It's not been easy moving on since your brother’s passing, but we move on as a family.”

Jack then asked about his mother and how she was doing. Harry assured him that she was doing well before telling Jack how good it was to see him up and moving. Jack then asked about what had happened since his accident, and Harry began to recount the events that had transpired.

“Ever since your encounter with Stallone, we’ve encountered something that we call genetic mutations, or GMs for short. They are a strange black monster that inhabits No Man's Land. As for Stallone, his group is still around and has only gotten stronger with the addition of someone who wears a white mask. Because of this new threat, I have taken the liberty of creating a new group that will not only protect the people of Japan but also end the war between us and Jackel.”

Jack burned with the desire to get revenge on Stallone, but Harry had a different idea. He had already lost Jamie, and he wasn't willing to lose Jack either. So, Harry told Jack to pack his bags and get on the next flight back to the States.

But Jack was determined to avenge his brother, claiming that he was stronger, faster, and better than he was three months ago. Harry knew he couldn't change Jack's mind, and he could sense the fire he had burning inside of him.

With no other option, Harry led Jack to a room, but before he entered the final number in the combination, Harry wanted Jack to convince him that he wanted to avenge his brother.

“Dad... I saw what the bastard Stallone did to my brother, and if he were in my position, he would do the exact same thing. So please let me help.” Jack pleaded.

“Very well,” Harry entered the last digit: “Welcome to Project Rainfall, son.”

The doors opened, revealing a room that was full of weapons and equipment, robots that were being worked on, and five other people who were part of the project.

As Jack is shocked by the number of weapons and equipment on display, the five other squad members begin talking about Jack.

“Who’s that guy?” One of the squad members asked

“That’s Harry’s son and our new leader.” A squad member replied back.

One squad member commented on the fact that Jack was being thrust into the team and said, “I give it a week before he ends up like his brother.”

“Not funny, Troy,” one of the squad members replied.

Before leaving, Harry instructed Jack to head to his locker, where he would find his equipment and his keycard for his robot, which share the same name as Jack’s new codename. Jack opened his locker, and inside was a long energy blade and the keycard that his father had mentioned.

One of the squad members approached Jack and welcomed him to the squad. “Welcome to the team. I’m Anakin Midori, codename FOX.”

Jack replied, “Jack. And I don’t know my codename.”

Anakin told Jack to look at his keycard, as the name inscribed is Jack’s codename. Looking at the keycard, the word Ripper could be seen, indicating that Jack’s codename is Ripper.

“Let me introduce you to the rest of the team,” Anakin said, pointing at the two members sharpening their knives. “Those two are twins Asuka and Kairi, codenamed Zero and Viper... Working on her robot is Ellie, codenamed Cyber, and the one on his phone is Troy; his official codename is Dick.”

Jack sensed that Anakin was lying to him about Troy’s codename, but Anakin assured him that Troy’s codename was Dick. This lie didn’t last long as Troy yelled across the room,

“It's Joker, actually.” Troy turned his attention to Jack and said, “So, Jack, you’re our new leader. Haha, you don't look like a leader. Tell me where you were the leader when you got your brother killed.”

Jack clenched his fist but was stopped by Anakin holding him back.

“Get out of here, Troy!” Anakin said while holding Jack back.

Troy began laughing as he walked away.

“Ignore him. He’s like that with everyone... I’ll leave you to get settled in.”

As Anakin left, Jack took his keycard and slotted it into the robot, activating it. The robot’s eyes tuned in before moving its head around and scanning the area.

“Hello! My name is Ripper; it’s a pleasure working with you, Mr. Jack Crawford."

“Just Jack is fine. So, what can you do?”

The robot began listing all the features that it has, such as detecting GMs, aiding in fights, navigation, and detecting the owner’s current health. Ripper performs a scan on Jack and comments that he needs sleep.

He decided to take the robot’s advice and headed for his room. Before he could enter the elevator, he was stopped by Lily.

“You heading for your quarters?” Lily asked.

“Well yeah,” Jack responded.

“Splendid, let me show you where they are.”

The two headed for Jack’s quarters; inside, the room had been redesigned to look more like a mini-apartment than a prison cell. Before Lily left, she asked if she could perform some medical checks on Jack, and with no other option, he accepted.

The checks involved testing Jack’s reaction times and his memory, which he passed with flying colors. As Lily left, Jack headed for bed for some much-deserved sleep.
