The next day, Charlotte wakes up in a hospital bed. She tried to move, but the leg was still tender and stiff. All she could do was lay back down and cry about what had happened. Charlotte knew she was tempting fate to do what she did. But at the same, it had to be done. She felt responsible for the deaths of many that night.

Maria walks into the room out of the blue with flowers and a food bag. She approached her crying sister with caution.

“Hello?” Maria greeted me with a sad smile.

Charlotte looked up to see Maria as she tried to scurry away.

This saddened Maria even further, “Hey, you’re up!”

Charlotte just stared at her with intense anger.

Maria played it off, “You feel any better?”

“You stole the flowers, didn't you?” Charlotte accused.

“No! The person died when they had these.” Maria admitted as she put them on the table. “The food, I bought myself.”

“You tried to kill me...” Charlotte uttered.

“No, I did not order the hit,” Maria said. “You might otherwise. That is because I ordered them to lie.”

“All those people. Why? Why, Maria? Why did they have to die? I should have done something.”

“It wasn't your fault, Charlotte,” Maria said. “But you should have come to me first. I didn’t know you would use some of my money to build a non-profit organization. And you know how Kenny feels about not being involved. He overreacted...” Maria admitted.

Charlotte shook her head in his belief, “so that’s why he almost killed everyone? Including me.”

Maria frowned, “yes...” she admitted.

Charlotte stared at her with intense anger as tears ran down her cheeks, “Those families were innocent. I hope you all burn in hell!”

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

“Calm down. They can hear you.” Maria warned. “It's what you always tell them occasionally, and You got to think smart.”

“I don’t care anymore...” Charlotte surrendered. “You might as well kill me now.”

Maria glared at her sister, “Hey, don't be like that. I, myself, did a lot of stupid shit. A lot of stupid shit. Everyone has a few.”

“Fuck you...” Charlotte said. “I’m not going to go quietly. I want you to remember that...”

Maria nodded as she backed away, turning into a busty, tall brunette wearing a white coat. “You must be her sister. The two of you look similar!” the woman said. “I’m Doctor Revan Zayne, and I’m the one who.”

“Get out of my way, tree trunk,” Maria uttered, shoving the doctor aside.

The doctor blinked, “well, that was uncalled for.”

“Ignore her. And no, we are not family...” Charlotte said with tears.

Revan didn’t want to intrude, “Well, I just want to tell you that you are medically cleared. But you have to stay here for one more day.

“Okay.” Charlotte softly said.

“I suggest taking the time to sleep,” Revan said with a smile.

Charlotte did that by laying back down, rolling into a ball, and crying.

She was thinking about how her life would end, now being the mortal enemy of her only brother.

Then, her smartphone rang as she jolted up. Half-tired, she wanted to go to sleep. But she was too riled up from that argument from Maria. Charlotte reluctantly answered the call.

“Hello?”

“Your friend asked me to call you.” A woman who sounded deep and distorted responded.

Charlotte recognized the voice as she sat up, “Lady Memento...”

“Yes.” Lady Memento confirmed. “And I already know who you are, Charlotte. Kenny, Zachariah, and Maria have all been given national immunity by the Prime Minister. They’re walking historical landmarks and afraid of her and her friends.”

“And...” Charlotte agreed.

“And the Ace Slayers originated from there. To make things worse, Maria and Kenny were the top killers in the whole organization.” Lady Memento said. “You cannot save them, Charlotte. You can only save yourself before you end up getting yourself killed. I’m bringing him in, Charlotte, and I need your help.”

“Well, there is some art and music festival downtown Paris,” Charlotte confessed. “He goes there every year. He can’t help himself.”

“You believe in justice. They will be tried and sentenced. They will be treated like any common criminal that has broken the law.” Lady Memento stated.

“Good luck with that...” Charlotte warned.

“The festival is two days away. Knowing them, they will have hired guns on rooftops, in apartments, and on the floor. I’ll take care of them while you leave town by then. Make sure you hide thoroughly. If they spot anything wrong, it will be trouble.” Lady Memento explained.

“I should have asked if this is a prank, but... I’m leaving the country anyway.” Charlotte said,

“This was out of your control. You can’t save those who refuse to change.” Lady Memento said as she hung up.

Charlotte’s mind was already made up. She would make arrangements to leave whenever she was cleared to leave.
