Chapter 54: Departing

Chapter 54: Departing

After Kaitlin hesitantly shook Ensen’s hand, they both sat in silence as they both thought about each other. Kaitlin was still shocked that Ensen also had a system and was embarrassed by her opening up to him. After all, she had only really opened up to her family and her late husband.

Ensen was more curious about what kind of world she would be heading to and things of that nature.

Trying to end the silence, Ensen stood up slowly and asked “Would you like some pie while we sit?”

Absentmindedly nodding her head, Ensen walked over to the kitchen and started searching around for plates and utensils. After a minute he managed to find some and bring them over.

After cutting a piece for both of them, they continued to sit in silence and leisurely eat the pie.

“So, when are you leaving for the other world?” Ensen asked.

“Whenever I want to really, although it will probably be today. Now that I know we can still talk in the future I have no worries.” Kaitlin said calmly, although Ensen thought that he could detect a little happiness in her voice.

‘Wait, she was worried about me? What does that mean? Probably not in a romantic way since her husband just recently passed, so does she consider me a friend?’ Ensen thought in confusion.

As Ensen began to overthink her words, Kaitlin leaned back in her chair and let out a light smile, a smile that had been hidden from the world for many days.

“So what is your system then? I thought I was the only one.” She said in a relaxed tone.

‘Looks like I thawed the ice queen’ Ensen thought in triumph.

“I have the Supreme Private Academy System, so if you need any help with teaching your sect members, just ask me,” Ensen said as he finished off his piece of the pie.

“Then we really will have a good chance to collaborate. Why do you know I’ll have sect members?” She asked in confusion.

“Oh, my system told me that,” Ensen said.

As time slowly passed, Kaitlin seemed more and more at peace with her decision to leave the world for a new adventure.

“... I think it’s about time.” Kaitlin said as she slowly got up from her seat.

“I guess it is. Do you have anything else to say?” Ensen asked.

Shaking her head lightly, Kaitlin soon paused for a moment and said “Actually, I don’t really know what to do with my stuff. My apartment lease is up next month and I have some extra money lying around somewhere.”

“But the money is… connected to some illegal businesses so it can’t really be used much. Not for big transactions at the very least, especially those involving the government.” Kaitlin warned.

Looking at Kaitlin, Ensen’s mind was nearly exploding in curiosity about why she had dirty money. But he held his questions back as he didn’t want her last memory on Earth to be him questioning her.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Looking at the apartment and the purse that was lying on the kitchen table, Ensen said hesitantly “I’ll find something to do with it… thank you. I’ll repay you in the future.”

“No it’s fine, it would just go to waste anyway.” She said before looking intensely at the space before her, seemingly reading something.

After a few seconds, she raised her voice. “It looks like I need to go now. We’ll talk again soon.”

Suddenly a tear in space appeared before her, similar to what happened when Gerhardt came from his own world.

Looking at Kaitlin as she began slowly walking towards the portal to the new world, Ensen noticed something.

Even though she seemed prepared to take on the world, she also seemed rather nervous.

But who could really blame her? It was completely reasonable.

Trying to help her relax, Ensen said: “Try to send me your first sect member soon, I need as many students as I can get.”

Turning her head to look back at Ensen, she breathed out to relax and began to walk through the portal.

A few seconds later, the void had begun to heal itself.

Looking around the apartment, Ensen felt alone. Even though they would speak again, he didn’t know if they would meet face to face. Even if they did, that would be a long ways away.

[Don’t worry, you’ll meet again. Besides, I, the almighty Supreme Private Academy System will be here!]

Looking at the message before his eyes, Ensen sat down on the couch and simply let his thoughts take over to try to distract himself.

After unsuccessfully trying to rid his head of negative thoughts for a rather long time, he finally succeeded.

Ensen then turned his attention to the new slew of information he had just learned.

‘She’s right about the dirty money, I really can’t use it much at all. It would be helpful to have some more money, but I think I’ll be able to last longer if I manage to use a little dirty money to supplement my normal expenses.’ Ensen thought reasonably.

“Hey system, do you know how much money Kaitlin had?” Ensen asked.

[She had around two hundred thousand in clean money and just over one million in dirty money. However, an extra five million will be transferred in two days, this money is considered clean but is being traced by a large syndicate so using the money in the near future would be unwise.] The system reported to Ensen.

“F-five million? How did she?” Ensen muttered to himself.

“Wait, can you transfer the money from that account into another and make it untraceable?” Ensen said with glowing eyes.

A few seconds later, the system wrote bluntly [100 education points.]

“What? That’s a total ripoff, I could get way better stuff for that.” Ensen protested.

[It is not a ripoff, host. The system would have to create financial records from thin air as well as manipulate the memories of multiple individuals to ensure that it will not be traced as well as being legal in the law so the host wouldn’t be in trouble. This is a significant amount of effort, especially considering that it is not my strong suit. But, since I am so benevolent I am willing to do it for you.]

“Benevolent? Yeah right.” Ensen said in annoyance, although he didn’t really mean it.’

In reality, while Ensen would love to have the extra five million, he didn’t have a great use for it at the moment. While the operating costs of the Academy were relatively expensive due to its remote area, it was a small building which kept expenses to a minimum.

The most important thing that Ensen needed was time and education points. Time to nurture star students who would inspire others to apply at his Academy. After all, parents would not want to send their children to a nameless Academy when there were others like SilverLeaf and Littlewood in the city.

And education points just to generally strengthen and further develop the Academy.

Putting the money situation at the back of his mind for the moment, Ensen looked around in Kaitlin’s purse until he found the key to the apartment.

After locking her apartment up, Ensen headed back into her room.

‘Well, I at least have a bit more clean money, although it’ll be a hassle if people find out I’m using a person’s bank card after they disappeared from the face of the Earth so I’ll hold off on that for a bit.’ Ensen thought.

Walking towards his kitchen, Ensen prayed in his heart that Kaitlin would be well there.

As the rest of the day quickly raced by, the moon both emerged and disappeared, and as the sun began to rise, so did Ensen.

After preparing for school, he headed into the kitchen to make a few peanut butter and jam sandwiches for his students. While they had brought food from home to eat yesterday since there was no culinary staff, Ensen didn’t want to put more strain on the already crumbling orphanage.

As Ensen got into his car and pulled up in front of the orphanage sometime later, the day he had been dreading had come.

Looking at Anabella who was sitting upfront with him, he looked in the rear-view mirror at Warren and Stephen who were both sitting in the back.

‘I can already sense the mischief they’ll get up to.’ Ensen thought as he began driving to school.

Unlike what he had thought, today had been the quietest morning drive to date. Anabella was reading a book, as usual, Stephen was staring out the window and Warren… was playing the air guitar. Although weird, Ensen accepted it in turn for peace and quiet.

After they arrived at school, the morning math class started not long after. While the students tried their best, it was a rather slow class. This was because everybody was still adjusting to their lives as students.

Ensen was no different, even though he had been a teacher for a few years he had lots of more responsibilities on his shoulders.
