Chapter 44: Five students

After around 20 minutes their conversation had ended and a blue box appeared.

[Main mission completed: Get 5 students]

[As a principal in a newly established academy, the first major step is to gain a student body. The user is required to permit five students to enter the academy following both the system’s and the host’s personal standards. If standards are not met, they will not count towards the student population.]

[Increase in administration skills]

‘Finally, I found all the students I need for the moment, although Alina hasn’t called yet, I’m not too sure what is going to happen with that but it would be nice to get her attending as well. There is still time until the Academy opens so who knows. There’s not much left to do until the Academy officially opens really. The furniture was delivered and set up earlier today which just leaves meeting the otherworldly teacher I suppose.’ Ensen thought to himself in excitement.

As Ensen was brainstorming ideas for the opening ceremony two blue boxes appeared.

[Main mission: Elevate subject knowledge to average]

[While you have acquired five students, their lack of knowledge leaves much to be desired. The first step in educating these young minds is catching up with the standard knowledge people are taught at this age. This includes all subjects taught in the academy, such as English, math, and others. Music skills are not included in this.]

[Natural History skill increases]

[Chain mission 1: Educate a student in music]

[In the student body, the student ‘Leah Brooks’ has the highest talent in the musical area. As such, her skill level in the music category should be increased to a minimum of D within three weeks. While this would not be possible with the majority of the population, both her specialty and innate skill will make this possible.]

[Access to next chain mission]

After reading his new missions, Ensen nodded in agreement at what the system had said. While he would have to dedicate a good amount of time to tutoring Leah on the piano, it would definitely be worth it. Not only for the points but just in general as well.

Curious about what the school information looked like now, Ensen opened it up.

[School Name: Evergreen Academy]

[Student population: 5 ]

[Faculty population: 2 ]

[Happiness: 80]

[Diligence: 50]

[Respect: 30]

‘Happiness seems pretty high at the moment which is nice. Respect is pretty low but that’s to be expected, I haven’t done much to earn their respect as of yet. Although I’m sure, the respect of the parents and orphanage staff is high.’ Ensen thought to himself before becoming slightly confused.

“I understand what the other information means, but what about spirit? It seems the same as happiness.” Ensen asked the system.

[Happiness is the average between all of the student population whereas spirit refers to school spirit. This is how proud they are to be a part of the Academy and similar things.]

Nodding in understanding, Ensen proceeded to grab himself a quick snack before getting in bed.

Beginning to plan out how the opening ceremony would work, Ensen spent the next few hours trying to focus while also waiting to see if Alina would call, but there was still nothing.

Satisfied with his arrangement, he looked at the time and noticed it was getting a little late. Switching to his pajamas, Ensen knew he had an exciting day ahead of him.

While the opening ceremony would most likely be in a few days so he had time to prepare everything, he would be meeting his first faculty member and preparing for it.

Quickly drifting off to sleep, Ensen woke up without any issues the next morning.

Hopping out of bed, he proceeded to head to the kitchen to cook a quick breakfast. After he had finished Ensen quickly headed out towards his car.

As he was about to open the door to his car, he heard a noise behind him.

“Hey… Ensen.”

Turning around slowly, Ensen saw a woman with a cold face and piercing eyes looking at him.

“Oh, hey Kaitlin. How have you been?” He said, unable to come up with a good conversation starter.

“I’ve been… good, I guess. Do you know where a good restaurant is?” Kaitlin asked in a straight-forward manner.

Looking at her for a few seconds, Ensen proceeded to tell her about the fancy restaurant that he had been previously.

Nodding in understanding, Kaitlin began to walk away without wasting a moment.

‘She really is an odd one.’ Ensen thought to himself as he got into his driver seat.

Driving directly towards the Academy, Ensen arrived after rather light traffic. Pulling into the parking lot, he slowly walked inside while marveling at the newly added furniture.

“Hey system, where would the faculty arrive from their own world?” Ensen asked.

[All faculty members will arrive through portals in the staff room is available or a remote place where there are no students to minimize exposure to a great extent.]

After thanking the system, Ensen proceeded to walk towards the staff room.

Opening the door, he noticed a table with chairs, a couch, a small kitchen, and many other objects for the faculty to use.

Sitting on the couch, Ensen began waiting for his faculty member to arrive.

After a few minutes, a strange thing occurred. A big fracture in space formed in an open area in the room and gradually grew until it was about the size of a person.

Ensen was not too caught off guard by this, as he had seen plenty of strange occurrences throughout his time with the system so far. Although it still worried him slightly.

A few moments later, the fracture began to slowly repair itself and in its place was an old-looking man with bright purple hair.

Slowly standing up from the couch, Ensen walked over until he was a few feet in front of the man who was beginning to slowly open his eyes.

Waiting patiently until he had fully awakened, Ensen stood there for around a minute until the man’s eyes were wide open.

“Hello, you must be Gerhardt Gwyn, It’s nice to meet you. I’m the principal here and the person who is contracting you for the near future.” Ensen said calmly as he had been rehearsing on the couch earlier.

Gerhardt slowly looked around him for a few moments before realizing that Ensen had spoken to him.

“Oh, I am terribly sorry. I am Gerhardt Gwyn as you most likely know. I’m happy that you chose me to be part of your faculty.” Gerhardt said elegantly.

Nodding in satisfaction, Ensen thought ‘I definitely made the right choice. I’m sure he could teach English extremely well.’

“Of course, you are very qualified for the position I was looking for. Would you like to see the classroom you would be teaching in?” Ensen asked after a moment of thinking.

“That would be excellent. While I have had students in the past, I haven’t taught a class before so please excuse if it takes a few days for me to adjust.” Gerhardt said with a polite and slightly self-deprecating tone of voice.

“That is no problem at all. The first class of students will need to be taught the basics first so it’ll be fine. Anyways, follow me and I’ll lead you to the classroom.” Ensen said calmly.

Turning around, Ensen began heading to the nearest classroom while Gerhardt followed behind.

Glancing over his shoulder, Ensen noticed that Gerhardt was analyzing every minuscule thing with curious eyes, obviously unfamiliar with the style of furniture and building in general.

Arriving in front of the classroom, Ensen paused for a moment before opening the door. This would be the first time he saw the fully furnished classroom as well.

Straight ahead when the door was open was a rather large desk with a large whiteboard that was on the left wall. To the right were three rows of modern wooden tables that were connected with each other. While the capacity of the room was slightly lowered, that would not make much of a difference.

With the windows on the far wall, when the door was opened, the entire classroom seemed to be joined with nature.

Moving to the side after entering to allow Gerhardt to move in, Gerhardt froze in amazement once he entered.

Gerhardt’s homeworld was quite different compared to earth. In fact, it was a world in conflict. Not with other humans, but mutant creatures that had risen up. Because of this, being in nature was rather dangerous at times, and learning how to properly combat these creatures took precedence over education. As such this was a completely new sight for Gerhardt.

Pausing for a few moments, Gerhardt asked calmly “I assume that there are no species of any sorts around the area that could endanger students?”

“That’s right, this area is completely safe, while I will need to make sure they don’t get lost in the forest or things of that nature that is it,” Ensen said.

Waiting for a few moments to take it all in, Gerhardt took a deep breath and said with a somewhat shaking voice “That’s great.”
