Prelude: The one who returned from the dead

For over 7 generations, the Arkon, the royal family of the kingdom of Tenai, a deeply patriarchal society, dedicated themselves to enhancing their lineage through marriages with prodigies. For more than 500 years, king after king found a partner who stood out among the subjects of their kingdom or in neighboring alliances, to create a next generation stronger than the previous one. The kings adopted countless concubines and produced many sons and daughters. However, the sons were subjected to oppressive magical and physical tests and relentless torture to find the strongest, most beautiful, resolute, and with the greatest magical affinity. Besides enforcing a eugenic separation of the better ones, these tests killed those considered weak, so even over 500 years, the royal family maintained only a small number of living relatives.

Over the years, some of the kingdom's nobles loyal to Selerian, the goddess of life, led by Felix Saladon, began to condemn the royal family's practice of eugenics and, behind the curtains, started plotting their downfall. 12 years later, the kingdom of Tenai was experiencing its worst moment. The nobles controlled the large landowners who gradually stopped mass planting, causing the people to starve. Many noble families still loyal to the king sold their desolate possessions and migrated to other regions, leading to a tremendous scarcity of resources throughout the kingdom because of this. King Merion III, who had just come to power at the age of 22 and was married to his sister, Queen Illia, advised by Felix, did not realize he was being manipulated until the great rebellion of the people of Tenai erupted. The kingdom of Tenai was prosperous and strong under the reign of King Harnon, Merion's grandfather, but things were lost when Felix was appointed advisor to King Oberon, Merion's father, in his final days. From that time, he gained the royal family's unrestricted trust, which helped him orchestrate everything behind the curtains. King Merion was killed in the great revolt of the people of Tenai, and his only wife, Illia, fled the palace aided by her lady-in-waiting, Ella. The kingdom of Tenai fell that day, and those lands were divided among the 4 noble families that orchestrated its fall. Illia, while fleeing with Ella, was hit by a poisoned dart and soon died as well. Before Illia could completely pass away, Ella removed the baby from her womb and continued her journey as far away from that place as possible, after all, the nobles who orchestrated the coup would not let anyone from the Arkon live.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

"What is this?" said a pale light falling from the sky. "It looks like I'm falling!" "Why am I so high up?" "Why am I falling?" "I can't remember anything!" exclaimed the light before losing consciousness once again.

During the night, Ella, now far from the capital, beside a rudimentary bonfire, clings to the barely breathing baby and prays looking up at the sky.

"I don't know any god or goddess, in fact, I don't know if I'm speaking into nothingness. But if someone up there is listening, save this baby, he should not carry the sin of his parents."

And like a firefly, a small pale light falls from the sky towards the baby, who in a sudden inspiration breathes more strongly. Ella, looking at the baby, realized that although still weak, his breathing returned, and along with the color of his cheeks, and as if someone had whispered in her ears, Ella lifts the baby and says,

"Your name will be Kal, the one who returned from the dead."
