Chapter 34 - The Primordial Light

Chapter 34 - The Primordial Light

In the Fox village, under the cloak of night, an atmosphere of mourning and desolation hung in the air. Kal's divine powers had saved the resistance at the last moment, but victory came at a bitter price. The field, illuminated by torches and magical bonfires, was full of improvised tents where the wounded received care and survivors gathered, sharing the warmth of their hopes and the cold of their losses.

In the center, under the largest tent, lay Kal and Relon, motionless and pale as if death had touched them without taking them. Around them, a solemn silence was broken only by the whispers of prayers and the contained crying of their friends and relatives.

Sin and Inala, Kal's half-siblings, were side by side, hand in hand, staring fixedly at the sad sky for their mother Ella. Tears flowed freely down Sin's face, a young man whose normally cheerful expression had disappeared, replaced by a mask of pain and disbelief. Although younger, Inala seemed to carry an equal weight, her soft sobs echoing the depth of her sadness.

Next to them, Princess Lilla, with her red eyes from crying, kept a silent vigil beside Kal, if before her concern was to be free, now she wanted everything to be as before, even if confined to princess duties. The pain in her gaze was palpable, a mixture of despair at the loss of her whole family and Kal and Relon's condition. The secret bond of love she nourished for him now intertwined with the fear of losing him forever.

Katara and Clara, both marked by mourning and concern, took turns at Kal's bedside, offering comfort to each other and to all who were wounded. Katara, with her demi-human features, used her abilities to try to understand the extent of the damage suffered by Kal, while Clara, though shaken, remained firm, her mind already working on strategies to help Kal and the resistance recover from Morfrey. She didn't want to lose anyone else.

Outside the tent, Suzannah, the Red Queen, stood looking at the night sky. Her face, usually impassive, showed signs of anguish. By her side, Gwen and Lua shared a look of sadness, both having lost many friends in the battle. Their pain was a reflection of the loss suffered by the entire resistance, a wound that would take time to heal.

Night progressed, and with it, a heavy silence settled over the Fox village. The loss, sacrifice and uncertainty of the future weighed on all, uniting them in their lament. But even in the darkness of this tragedy, the flame of the resistance still burned, a faint reminder that hope, however fragile it seemed, still existed. They had survived this night, and as long as there were still fighters, the light of resistance would never go out.

As dawn broke the veil of night, bringing with it the promise of a new day, the Fox village became a whirlwind of activity and concern. Orem, Katara's protective brother, walked through the village with an expression laden with anxiety. His mind was focused on an immediate and pragmatic problem: how to feed the growing number of refugees who had been magically transported to this place of sanctuary. The challenge was immense, but Orem was determined to find a solution, aware that many depended on his actions for survival.

While Orem dealt with logistics to sustain the resistance, Suzannah understood that sustaining spirit was as crucial as sustaining body. Gathering all those physically able to hear, she positioned herself at the center of the village, her childlike figure but powerful voice cutting through the morning silence.

"My brave friends," began Suzannah, her voice carrying authority and compassion.

"The night past bore witness to great losses and sacrifices. But it also bore witness to our courage and determination. We are not defeated; we are here, together, ready to face what comes. Each of you is a beacon of hope, proof that darkness will not prevail while we stand united."

She paused, allowing her words to resonate among those present.

"We will rise from this blow stronger, more united. We will honor those we've lost, not with our tears but with our resolve to continue the fight. They sacrificed their lives so that we may go on. And go on we will, not just surviving but thriving, until justice is restored."

In the crowd, Shiera and Leon Felwave, members of the family directly connected to the enemy, felt the weight of guilt and responsibility. With somber faces, they stepped forward, seeking to make amends with those who suffered due to the actions of their brother, Sebastian.

"We come to apologize to all here," began Shiera, her voice trembling yet steady.

"Our brother chose a path that brought pain and suffering to many, he killed our father. We are here not just to apologize but to fight by your side, to right the wrongs caused by our family."

Leon, by her side, added:

"Our mother, Anna, and our younger brother, Zion, are here with us as well. Like you, we are scared, but our resolve to do what is right outweighs our fear. We stand with you, in the fight for light and justice."

Mother Anna Felwave held Zion's hand, who looked around visibly shaken by recent events. Their presence among the refugees was a silent testimony of their rejection of Sebastian's choices and commitment to the resistance cause. Suzannah's words and the Felwaves' gesture of reconciliation served as a balm for wounded hearts, a reminder that despite adversity, unity and resilience could pave the way for recovery and victory. The community, though shaken, began finding strength in one another, ready to face future challenges with renewed hope and determination.

As dawn broke, tinting the sky with shades of pink and gold, the Fox village, now a refuge for troubled hearts, awoke to a new day. Katara, the priestess of primordial light, positioned herself in an elevated part of the village where all could see and hear her clearly. Her countenance was serene, and her closed eyes as she prepared to pay tribute to those departed.

Then, with a clear, melodic voice that seemed to capture the very essence of light itself, Katara began to sing. Her song, an ancestral tradition of the fox-men, was a tribute to the dead, a promise that although they had left the mortal world, they would never truly be alone. The melody, soft yet powerful, rose above the village, carrying with it the weight of sadness and lightness of hope.

"Our hearts longed for you to stay

But a brighter light led you away

From simple grains of dust below

To celestial halls of long ago

Stay steadfast on your path

The road to glory lies ahead

You'll never walk alone

The primal glow lights your tread

This luminance divine

This inborn spark that leads the way

Will show you where to go

And keep you there from day to day

When shadows fall and doubts arise

Let its beams lift your eyes

This eternal flame within

Will help your purpose you fulfill

The primordial gleam is your guide

Burn ever strong, burn ever bright

It will not let your footsteps stray

But light the way from night to night"

As Katara sang, a reverent silence fell over the village. The battle-hardened warriors, young apprentices, children and elders—all stopped to listen, allowing the words of the song to envelop them. Tears mingled with sad smiles as the community found comfort in the priestess' music, a reminder that those lost were now at peace.

Katara's song not only honored the dead but served as a balm for the living, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, light would find a way. And in that moment, with the rising sun bathing the village in its golden glow, a new sense of purpose and determination began to bud in the hearts of all present. United by mourning and hope, they looked to the future, ready to face coming challenges guided by the same light that promised to protect and guide those departed.

Kal awakens in a field with long pastures, in a plain that seemed to have no end, a vast field of wheat swaying as a breeze blew. Looking to the sky just as it was on the mountain, the sky sparkled with infinite colors, like the universe painted with colors without end. Kal lay exhausted, the vast wheat field stretching endlessly around him, a golden sea rippling in the breeze beneath a sky aglow with indescribable hues. He had called for Domeh, the mysterious entity who had before guided and trained him, but silence was his only answer. Feeling abandoned and directionless, Kal continued his journey, one step after another, hoping to find a way back or at least some sign of what he should do.

Days seemed to pass as Kal walked without stopping, each step as hopeless as the last, until finally his determination gave way to utter fatigue. He collapsed, legs refusing to carry him further, his whole body crying out for rest. Kal was ready to surrender to exhaustion, to accept that perhaps this endless field would be his final refuge.

Then the voice cut through the vastness, an unexpected presence amid Kal's isolation. "Just one more step to be a Hero." The words, though coarse and aged, carried immense weight, awakening something within him. Surprised and reinvigorated by curiosity and a wisp of hope, Kal lifted his head seeking the source, but all he saw was the infinite rippling of wheat around him.

This phrase "Just one more step to be a Hero" echoed in his mind, provoking him to ponder its meaning. Would it be a goad, advice, or perhaps a challenge? Kal realized that despite his fatigue, loneliness and disorientation, this moment could be a crucial test, a lesson imposed by the entity itself or by fate.

With a superhuman effort, Kal forced himself to stand, leaning on his unyielding will to carry on, to not give up. He understood that every step he took, no matter how insignificant it seemed, brought him closer to something greater than he could imagine. "Just one more step," he whispered to himself, turning the phrase into a mantra of perseverance.

And so, with a last shred of strength, Kal took one more step. In that moment, the world around him began to change, the wheat field disappearing in a whirlwind of light and color, transporting him beyond the physical to a place where answers to his deepest questions might be found. This step was not merely physical, but symbolic, representing his unbreakable determination to face challenges, to grow, and to become the hero he was destined to be.

In the heart of the cosmos, among stars that shone with a silent joy, Kal found himself in a domain where reality transcended the limits of imagination. The comforting presence of the stars seemed to embrace him, as if he belonged in that vast stellar expanse.

As he approached the strange chair, the figure of the old man became clearer. His long white hair and beard gave him an air of ancient, almost eternal wisdom. But it was the man's gaze that captured Kal—a gaze that seemed to reflect not only the infinity of the universe but also a deep familiarity, as if mirroring part of Kal's very essence.

"Domeh?" Kal asked, his voice laden with uncertainty and hope. The answer came in the form of a warm laugh, a denial accompanied by an introduction that expanded the mysteries Kal sought to unravel even further. "I am not Domeh, you may call me Daat!"

Daat, the name resonated with a weight of knowledge and understanding, suggestive of unexplored depths and truths yet to be revealed. Daat's laugh, though friendly, carried with it the complexity of someone who had witnessed eras pass, someone who knew both the burden and beauty of existence.

Kal, still absorbing the surprise of this encounter, realized he was facing a unique opportunity. Daat was not just another powerful being; he was a link to better comprehend not only the power Kal carried within, the Primordial Light, but also the role he was destined to play in a cosmic drama unfolding beyond the bounds of his world.

"Daat," Kal began, his curiosity piqued by the enigmatic presence before him. "What brings me here? What do you represent in this journey I'm undertaking?"

The conversation that would follow, Kal knew, could reveal fundamental truths about his nature, destiny, and challenges still to come. With each word from Daat, Kal hoped to unveil a little more of the vast tapestry of the universe and his place within it. This was not just a meeting between two souls; it was a passage to greater understanding, a step towards truly grasping the essence of heroism and light Kal sought to comprehend and master.

Daat observed Kal with a gaze that seemed to pierce through the layers of doubt and insecurity the young hero carried. "You saw everything that happened to me," Kal murmured, his voice heavy with dejection. "But I...I don't know if I'm capable of being this so-called Primordial Light. I failed to protect those important to me. I don't even know if they were able to rescue my mother and siblings from Morfrey's hands. This incapability...it consumes me."

Daat's smile was as reasssuring as enigmatic. "To feel small is the first step to become great," he responded, his words floating in the space between them like a universal truth. Though seemingly contradictory, in Kal's heart a spark of understanding began to glow.

"I let a demon seal my powers," Kal confessed, the weight of defeat bowing his shoulders. "I no longer have access to them. Perhaps it would be better if you passed these powers to someone more capable."

Daat smiled again, a smile carrying centuries of wisdom. "Even the strongest think of giving up," he said softly. "But true strength lies not in never thinking of quitting. It lies in continuing to improve, even in the most terrible of moments."

Daat's words were a balm for Kal's tormented soul. They not only offered comfort but also a different perspective on his journey. True heroism, Daat suggested, was not found in the absence of doubts or unshakeable power; it was in the ability to face those doubts, to grow from them, and to persist despite seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

"Your powers were not given to you by chance, Kal Arkon," Daat continued, his voice echoing with an authority that seemed to emanate from the very stars. "They are part of who you are, just as the Primordial Light flows through the universe. A demon may have obscured your connection to these powers, but it cannot extinguish the light within you. The key to unlock your powers once more, to rise up against greed and darkness, lies within yourself. You must find the strength to rekindle that light, to redefine yourself not by your failures but by your will to overcome them."

Daat's words seemed to light a new flame within Kal, a flame of determination and hope. Kal began to realize his journey was more than a quest for power or vengeance; it was a journey of self-discovery, of facing his own shadows and learning to shine despite them.

"How can I rekindle this light?" Kal asked, his voice now strong with newfound resolve.

Daat smiled, a smile that promised both challenges and triumphs along Kal's path. "The journey will be arduous, Kal Arkon. But you will not be alone. Remember, the Primordial Light you seek is not just a force you invoke; it is an expression of your very essence. To rekindle your light, you must first recognize the darkness you face, within and without. From there, each step you take, each challenge you overcome, will bring you closer to the true nature of your power."

With these words, Daat extended his hand to Kal, a gesture promising guidance and support. Kal, feeling a renewal of purpose, took Daat's hand, ready to face what lay ahead with the Primordial Light as his guide and strength.

Within the heart of the resistance, under Suzannah's temporary leadership, an emergency meeting was called. Among those present, Arthan, son of General Marcus, stood out not just for his lineage but also for his unique position as a spy within the capital controlled by Morfrey, the Death King. The task before them was challenging: to devise a plan to face an army of millions of the undead, an endeavor that seemed to border on impossible.

Suzannah initiated the discussion.

"We need a strategy that allows us to confront Morfrey and his army. Arthan, you have intelligence from within. What is the current situation in the capital?"

Arthan took a deep breath, the gravity of the situation weighing on his shoulders, as his own father was still in the capital.

"Morfrey has consolidated his power. The army of the dead is vast and without Kal and Relon, our chances are significantly lower. We need an approach that allows us to attack effectively without facing the entire army head-on."

"What do you suggest?" asked Suzannah, her gaze sweeping the room seeking ideas.

"Guerrilla warfare," replied Arthan. "Swift attacks and strategic withdrawals. We strike where they least expect and disappear before they can react. This will require perfect coordination and familiarity with the terrain."

Suzannah nodded, pondering. "It is risky, but it may be our best chance. We need to weaken Morfrey's forces before any direct confrontation."

The discussion continued, with each member of the resistance contributing ideas and strategies, each aware of the weight of their decisions.

Meanwhile, Lilla, moved by concern for her twin brother Relon and her feelings for Kal, found herself in a moment of personal tension mixed with a gentle touch of humor. Upon entering the tent where Kal was being cared for, her heart ached to see Clara lying with her face next to Kal's bed, her face buried in the sheets, clearly affected by the situation.

"Clara?" called Lilla, her voice mixing surprise and a hint of jealousy.

Clara shot up quickly, wiping a furtive tear. "Oh, Lilla! I was just, uh, checking if he still had a fever!"

Lilla crossed her arms, trying to keep a serious expression, but the absurdity of the situation began to unravel. "Checking with your face, is it? Is that a new medical method I'm unfamiliar with?"

Clara blushed, realizing how compromising her position may have seemed. "Well, you know, it's important to be...close to the patient to...to truly feel the essence of their condition!"

Lilla, struggling to maintain a stern expression, finally gave in and laughed. "Clara, just...try using your hand next time, okay?"

Clara joined in the laughter, relieved by Lilla's response. "I promise it will be less...personal next time."

The exchange, though initially fraught with tension, served as a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there was room for levity and human connection. Lilla sat beside Clara, both united in their concern for Kal and Relon, remembering that despite circumstances, they still stood united against the shadows threatening their world.

Back with Kal, Daat tells him that to reveal Kal's true nature, Kal would need to be prepared to know all aspects of his power. So Kal asks what these avatars were that he would have to face. Daat tells a story:

"In the beginning of all things was a singular being beyond all comprehension, this being created the world and everything in it, and there it remained, watching its world grow and flourish. However, it noticed that all living beings it had made had inherited its two aspects, light and darkness, and so while they could be loving beings they were also terrible and made war. Determined to let its aspects duel for dominion of the world, this being divided into two. The Primordial Light and the Primordial Darkness. From the light were born 6 gods of light, Luminus, Acuos, Terran, Garesh, Dominus and Selerian and from the darkness were also born 6 gods, Necros, Osh'kalun, Voluptaroth, Maarg, Ank'latar and Yshvatu. These gods do not have permission to interact directly with this earth, however they can send manifestations of their powers, and these manifestations are known as Avatars."

Daat, with his voice carrying centuries of wisdom, revealed to Kal the dualistic nature of the universe and the fundamental role the Avatars played in the eternal dance between light and darkness. Kal, absorbing every word, realized the magnitude of the path ahead of him.

"So these Avatars," Kal began, his mind spinning with new information. "They are like champions of the gods, fighting in their name in our world?"

"Exactly," confirmed Daat. "Each Avatar is the pure manifestation of one of the aspects of their god's power. They are sent to influence the balance between light and darkness in the world, each seeking to expand the influence of their domain."

Kal pondered this, a feeling of determination growing within him. "And Morfrey, the Death King now threatening our world... Is he an Avatar of those Primordial Darkness?"

Daat nodded. "Morfrey has become an Avatar of greed, one aspect of the god Ank'latar and a manifestation of the Primordial Darkness. He is a threat not just for his own power, but because he throws off the balance between light and darkness, bringing devastation and corruption."

Kal felt the weight of his responsibility. "And what does this mean for me? How can I face an Avatar of the Primordial Darkness?"

"To reveal who you truly are and master your power from the Primordial Light, you must be prepared to face and understand all aspects of your power," explained Daat.

"This means recognizing the light as well as the darkness within yourself. You must learn to harmonize these forces so you can confront Morfrey and any other manifestation of the Primordial Darkness."

Kal absorbed Daat's words, understanding his journey was not just a battle against external forces, but an internal struggle to achieve balance between opposites within himself. "How can I begin preparing for this confrontation? How can I learn to harmonize these aspects within me?"

Daat smiled, his ancient gaze shining with an encouraging light. "The first step is to accept that both light and darkness are part of who you are. You must explore those parts of yourself, understand them, and accept them. Your journey will bring you many challenges, each designed to teach you a lesson about your power and true self. Through these challenges you will find the way to true mastery."

"I am ready to face what comes," Kal declared, his voice strong in newfound resolve. "I will do whatever is necessary to protect my world and those I love."

Daat nodded in approval. "Then let your journey begin, Kal Arkon. Remember, the brightest light often arises from the greatest darkness. You have the potential to be a beacon of hope and force for good. Believe in yourself and the light within you."

With these words, Kal felt strengthened, ready to face the challenges ahead. He knew the journey would be difficult, but Daat's guidance and the truth about the Avatars of light and darkness provided him a clear purpose. Now more than ever, he was determined to confront the darkness, harmonize the conflicting aspects of his being and emerge as the Avatar of the Primordial Light he was destined to be.
