Chapter 34: Beyond the Shadows

Chapter 34: Beyond the Shadows

Arav struck his fist at Pratira’s chest, with doubt plaguing his eyes;

[WOO!]

The air striking his fist confirmed his concern, his hand was impaled directly in the middle of the demon’s chest, without having any sensation of the same. What his hands felt completely contradicted his eyes, leaving him in a state of confusion. The Demon triumphantly smiled along with raising his open claws above his head;

Realizing the Demon’s intentions, Arav swiftly retracted his arm and prepared to block the incoming attack;

[WOO!]

His eyes contracted, as Pratira’s claws went right past his hands, as if they didn’t even exist in the Demon’s path;

[SLASH!]

Arav suddenly felt the Demon’s sharp claws in a painful way, the demon’s claws impaled his abdomen muscles and began moving up while carving four deep wounds behind them. Pratira’s hands moved up on Arav’s right in a split second;

Arav’s right peripheral vision caught dozens of drops of blood getting shot out of his wounds due the demon’s speed;

[WOOSH!] [DRIP!]

Arav swiftly moved away from the Demon while leaving a red stream of light behind, he lowered his gaze and found his own blood evaporating under the red aura.

“Heh…Human…I’m enjoying this far more than I had expected.” The demon’s black tongue stuck out of his mouth and he began licking Arav’s blood off his fingers.

“So..this was..their true purpose.” Arav’s spoke while his eyes coldly stared at the demon, the wound inflicted by Pratira wasn’t a long lasting one and got healed in just the time they exchanged two sentences;

[WOOSH!] [GRAARH!]

His red aura suddenly erupted out with the sound of beast roaring in the surrounding;

Arav’s actions were met with a confident smirk on Pratira;

[HUM!]

Hundreds of arrows made of red energy appeared around Arav, while he pointed his index finger at the demon;

[SWOOSH!]

All of the arrows raging with Arav’s energy rushed towards Pratira at an incredible speed;

Pratira’s smile stretched even further, he flew directly at the incoming arrows with both of his arms forming a dense energy sphere;

[WOOO!]

The arrows went through Pratira, as if his existence was a mere illusion;

Pratira appeared right in front of Arav,

[WOOSH!]

The dark energy sphere in his left hand burst out with a beam getting shot out of it;

[WOO!]

Arav ducked and dodged the point black attack, his fists surrounded in his red aura moved upward directly at Pratira’s jaw;

Just in the same fashion as before, his hands went right through the demon’s smiling face;

[WOOSH!]

The energy sphere in the demon’s left hand shot a dense dark energy beam directly at Arav’s head;

[WOOSH!]

The demon was left surprised once again by Arav’s speed, as he had disappeared right in front of his eyes. The energy beam was shot at the ground uninterrupted, Pratira’s eyes contracted with an annoyed expression covering his face,

[SLASH!]

The next thing he saw was a red energy blade appearing piercing out of his nose from the back;

“Heh..” The Demon chuckled while turning back;

“Huh?!”

The demon’s eyes widened, as he found Arav had once again disappeared.

[HUM!]

The demon sensed a sudden rise in energy behind him, he swiftly looked back then up and found Arav with a dense red energy sphere forming between his open palms in front of his chest.

[BHUM!]

A wide beam of the terrifying red aura engulfed the Demon’s entirety;

[CRASH!]

The beam fell on the ground and turned dozens of houses into nothing;

Once again, he stayed unharmed while directly in the trajectory of Arav’s attack. But as the beam disappeared, the demon stood with an unexpected expression on his face.

His lips no longer wore the former smile with his eyes wide open, the demon’s mind was engulfed in disbelief as he slightly felt the heat of Arav’s attack on his body.

Then suddenly, his eyes contracted, his mind that was previously occupied with intense emotions, had completely failed to realize that Arav was once again missing from his location.

[WOOSH!]

Pratira sensed Arav’s energy rapidly moving away from him, he turned in the direction and found Arav heading at the ground in the distance;

Pratira grit his teeth while his face contracted with immense anger;

A powerful burst of dark energy propelled the Demon directly in the direction of Arav;

“Wha-..” Yaksh confusingly whispered as he saw Arav heading at him with a tremendous speed;

[SWOOSH!]

Arav flew past him with the strong wind behind Arav forcing Yaksh’s eyes close;

The next moment Yaksh’s entire body was covered in goosebumps, he swiftly opened his eyes;

The image of a furious Pratira’s fist heading at him froze Yaksh’s spine;

[SMACK!]

The powerful punch from the Demon sent Yaksh flying through meters away;

“TCH!” Pratira turned at Arav with an annoyed expression, who was already a significant distance away from him;

[THWOOSH!]

Another burst of energy shot Pratira in Arav’s direction;

“[COUGH!]...” Yaksh tightly gripped his shirt with his shaking hands while coughing out blood. The intense pain originating from his chest caused his mind to get numb while his confused eyes gazed at a rapidly moving red dot of energy in the sky;

“Wait-.” A sudden realization widened Yaksh’s eyes, he quickly turned in a particular direction and found a patch of dried blood on the ground;

“He took…him?”

‘How did he realize?’ This single question echoed with concern and anger filling Pratira’s head. He kept increasing his speed along with the amount of energy radiating out of the dark shell covering his body.

“...Wake up” Arav’s voice strangely vibrated;

“[COUGH!]...HAAH….HAAAH….WH-..WHAT?!” Adhrit suddenly opened his eyes and frantically threw his limbs;

“Wait…wh-..why are you carrying me?!” After he saw himself resting on Arav’s shoulders, his entire body wriggled with utter shock;

“...Just a glance up should answer you..”

[WOOSH!]

Arav suddenly increased his flight speed even more as he answered. First confused, Adhrit raised his head, the sudden reveal of absolutely furious Pratira, following them while raging with dark energy froze Adhrit’s spine.

“HEIK!!...WHO IS HE??!” Adhrit exclaimed in a shaky voice;

[WOOSH!]

“...One who is supposed to be dead.” Arav answered while turning right, barely dodging a dark energy slash launched at them by Pratira.

“Wait..isn’t that–” Adhrit’s eyes, previously filled with fear, suddenly opened wide with surprise while he stared at the Demon.

“How did you two escape that dimension?” Arav followed by a question of his own;

“That dimens-..WAIT!.. that’s why I’m here..” Adhrit felt his brain suddenly lit up as he finally began making sense of the situation;

“Every attack I attempt fails, he escapes in a different dimension the moment I attack him, and returns back to ours as he retaliates..” Arav continued while Adhrit’s gaze stayed locked at Pratira, who kept angrily radiating even more energy in an attempt to catch up to Arav;

“But I still don’t understand how I can be of use in this situation..” Adhrit said in a doubtful tone while his voice kept getting lower with every word he spoke;

“...This might not be the perfect time,..but listen carefully, your ability to create portals is nothing less than tampering with the very plane of existence we reside in.” Arav said in a serious, yet calm tone, resulting in Adhrit’s complete attention on his words.

“Mantra isn’t an energy with fixed properties…as far as I have seen, its origin might be entirely different from the way it is used.”

“Wh–what do you mean?..Isn’t mantra decided for everyone from their birth, along with its property?” Adhrit asked in disbelief, while Arav simply smirked at his question;

“The relevant information here is that your mantra is somewhat related to his ability to manipulate dimensions. You will have to send me in the same dimension he is currently inside..”

Arav’s sudden reveal made Adhrit’s face turn pale, the immense lack of confidence and fear of failure made his heart race;

“I..don’t think I can release that much energy..” Adhrit said in a low voice while placing his chin on Arav’s back,

“...You can’t..”

“Huh?..Then wh–”

“But I can..”

“What?..” Adhrit shook his head as he barely made sense of Arav’s words;

“I can force your mantra to provide you enough energy for this to be successful..”

“How?” Adhrit asked again in a confused tone, the little sense he could muster up before disappeared in an instant.

“Just have the right trick up my sleeve..”

[WOOSH!]

Arav suddenly turned as he answered Adhrit.

Yaksh confusingly gazed at the red streak of light suddenly turning towards him again, as he all this while watched it going in circles in the sky while being followed by Pratira. The sudden anticipation of getting punched by Pratira again made his heart skip a beat;

[BHUM!]

While Yaksh was lost in his thoughts, Arav suddenly appeared right in front of him and picked him up from the ground, placing him on the other shoulder;

“Oh hey Yaksh!’’ Adhrit said in a cheerful tone while peeping at Yaksh from behind Arav’s face;

“Fu-...just great!’’ Yaksh uttered a few words under his lips;

“You will have to distract him for a while..” Arav spoke while Adhrit showed a thumbs up to Yaksh;

“...How long is this ‘a while’?” Yaksh completely ignored Adhrit’s actions and asked, his tone sounded confident but his heart suddenly sank upon hearing Arav’s words;

“As long as it takes him to control his energy..”

“Wait..Are you…?” Yaksh’s asked with a surprised expression as the sudden realization hit him;

“Now”

Arav exclaimed and suddenly moved down while throwing Yaksh up, propelling him up towards the sky;

[SWOOSH!]

An arrow surrounded in green energy was shot at Pratira;

“Tch!!” Pratira clicked his tongue as the arrow went through his head,

[CRASH!]

“How will you do it?!” Adhrit said while Arav placed him down on the ground;

“Now” Arav’s voice strangely vibrated;

[HUM!]

The moment that single word escaped Arav’s lips, an intense amount of silver energy suddenly erupted out of Adhrit. Every single pore on Adhrit’s skin radiated bright silver light along with his eyes getting engulfed in the same;

“HRAAARGH!!!!!” Adhrti’s painful scream echoed in the entire area, while containing such strength that Pratira got distracted momentarily;

[BOOM!]

Taking advantage of the situation, Yaksh’s arrow surrounded in green energy hit Pratira directly in the chest, resulting in the demon suddenly getting engulfed in an explosion;

“DAMN YOU!!!” Pratira roared in anger while his rage filled eyes gazed directly inside Yaksh’s soul;

Yaksh grit his teeth and tightened his shivering grip around the bow as he crashed on the ground.

“URGH!!!...HAAAH..HAAH…I..can..do it…brother..” A stream of tear escaped Adhrit’s left eyes, but the boy clenched his fist and spoke with determination;

Adhrit’s eyes filled with silver energy gazed at Pratira flying right behind Yaksh, who momentarily stopped and shot an arrow at him, that went right past him without dealing any damage;

“I..am..ready…but…URGH!..It..won’t last for long..” Adhrit swiftly turned at Arav;

[WOOSH!] [GRAARGH!!]

“The moments you can spare…will be his last..” Arav’s red energy raged in a tremendous amount, making the energy he previously was using appear minuscule;

[HUM!]

Adhrit raised his hand and opened his palm directly facing Arav, his brilliant silver energy rushed at Arav and engulfed him entirely.

“YOU PEST!!”

Pratira suddenly appeared right in front of Yaksh and slashed at his neck with his dark claws radiating dark energy;

Drops of sweat had already covered Yaksh’s entire face, Pratira’s sudden appearance made his heart skip a beat and convinced him to consider that moment his final one. He raised his bow in a last attempt to block Pratira’s attack,

But for the next few seconds, Yaksh felt nothing..the eerie and unexpected silence around him strangely felt his heart with relief.

A chill ran down Pratira’s spine, his previously rage filled expression had the look of utter disbelief, as the demon felt Arav’s grip around his wrist;

The demon’s dark raged;

“Enough” Arav’s voice vibrated strangely that disturbed his own red aura for a moment, while making Pratira’s dark energy disappear entirely. The ability Arav just used made Demon’s eyes open wide with his heart sinking in an endless abyss. His feet began shaking while losing all of their strength, Pratira made no further attempts to escape.

“Th…the…the dragon lord…P-..P–..Pralaya!!!” Words of pure fear and concern were spoken from the heart of the demon, while his wide open eyes gazed at the ground as he failed to even look at Arav;

The demon suddenly felt his body rising, and the very next moment;

[CRACK!]

He heard his own skull breaking apart with absolute clarity. Arav had grabbed both of the Demon’s black horns and raised him to his eye level..

The fear Pratira felt for his life got completely overshadowed by his sudden realization of Arav’s true Identity, the moment their gazes met, Arav’s eyes surging with red aura pierced the Demon’s soul, forcing a long lasting silence on his face;

[TRR!!]

Pratira’s head began tearing apart right from the middle, parts of his brain stretched like threads until they snapped with a gust of dark blood flowing out of his body. The blood showered Arav, but evaporated the moment it touched his red aura. All this while, Pratira’s eyes, still intact on the both halves of himself, stared at Arav without any depth behind them.

[THUD!]

Adhrit suddenly fell unconscious on the ground, with his brilliant silver energy disappearing in a second;

[THWOOSH!]

A sudden gust of wind burst out of Arav’s location the moment his feet sensed the ground. Arav threw both the halves of the Demon on the ground with his cold gaze not showing even the slightest of change.

“Haah…that..was the most absurd battle I ever faced..” Yaksh turned his gaze away from the entire ordeal and spoke in a stuttering attempt of sarcasm;

Arav turned towards Adhrit while speaking; “Are you alr-...’’ He abruptly halted his words.

Arav turned his head back and up simultaneously;

The space around them had begun tearing apart, with one such crack revealing a dark figure in the distance.

Yaksh turned back, confused by Arav’s sudden silence. His confusion was elevated even further as he noticed the dark figure slowly appearing in the sky;

“Who..is he?”

Yaksh’s question was left unanswered.

Arav’s red eyes gazing at the figure kept getting wider in sync with the clarity of the figure’s appearance.

A face less being with a human like figure was floating in the sky, its dark shell allowed no light to escape while holding an ominous presence.

The figure lowered his head and gazed at Arav,

“No…”

Arav whispered while his usual calm demeanor appeared to be losing its ground.
