Chapter 29

So yeah, a lot had happened over the last few weeks since I got Abra, I didn't want to use the intermediate draw chance straight away, thinking that there might be some more I could get that could also mean I can do a bundle draw with those had me holding off.

My Pokemon had been coming along great and their synergy during our nightly trips made them all the easier, and it just worked. If I had the team I had now months ago, then I would not have been in the same situation I had been at in the warehouse.

Seeing where my Pokémon were at as well as myself it made me tempted to push ourselves and look at some higher-level crime around the area, for while we had been going after the low-level crooks, maybe it was time we looked a bit higher.

Targeting the suppliers and gang bosses would be a sure-fire way to bring the heat down on us, but it would also mean that we could look at stamping out the more serious threats to the public.

Though this would require a lot more preparation than I was used to, I could use my normal nightly endeavors to narrow down my first target and plan it over the following days. We could set everything up so that we could escape quickly, hit hard and fast and bail before it went tits up.

The flexibility that Abra gave me was hard to describe, I already found the pressure that had been mounting from SHIELD, was gradually diminishing due to their futile attempts to track me down.

I got a large amount of satisfaction seeing them run all over the place chasing leads and hints of our appearance. A few times we moved just enough that they couldn't find us, yet we could hear what went on, and it put a smile on my face hearing the frustration in their voices as they found yet another empty alley.

We had been building a following of sorts around the city, the sheer number of posts and articles about us online and in the paper showed that we had garnered a significant amount of fame. We had been linked to the decreasing rates of crime around Brooklyn, and while we had been admonished by the police force and labelled as vigilantes, I could tell that the statements lacked the sincerity that showed they were taking it seriously.

I suppose that whatever reduced the injuries and potential fatalities of officers in the line of duty, which also assisted them in fighting crime would be welcome. They just couldn't be seen to support it, most likely due to pressure from the politicians and government officials.

I mean a populace that is afraid of going out at night or being assaulted by the criminal element in society is a gullible populace. Being able to fearmonger and fill the ears with empty promises to reduce crime, while lining their pockets with campaign donation and live the high life. I can definitely imagine they would be upset with an upset status quo.

Regardless of whatever people thought I was doing; it wouldn't stop me from going out each night. Moving around the area during the day and seeing the smiles on everyone's faces, made it all worth it.

With it getting late I met with my Pokémon in the dining room, and we went over our game plan for the night. Seeing that we were going to change it up slightly, I wanted to ensure that they were up to speed with the plan.

"Alright guys, so I'm thinking that we have been doing fine with our patrols. Though with our process and levels it is about time we take it up a notch." Looking around the room at the three of them.

Getting a confused look and questioning "Char, Gastly Gas, ....."

"Yes, yes I'm getting to it don't worry; well with our success at fighting the lower level of gangs around the area, I think it is time to look higher and target the suppliers and leaders. We can work at taking them down from the top and make it even harder to establish themselves in the future." Seeing a burning desire flare up within the Pokémon hearing that we were going for some higher ups got me grinning.

"Now it's not going to change too much our normal operations in the short term, we are just going to be more focused on information gathering. Knowledge is key and the more information we can gather will help up narrow down some locations and people to look out for.

With that in mind Abra I want you to try scanning the minds of the gang members to get some information that will help us gain some targets." Getting a nod from her I turned to Gastly.

"Gastly, I want you to start exploring the buildings around us when we are moving, as far as we know we have already been near to some targets of interest without knowing."

"Gas, Gas Gastly Gas" seeing the ball of gas bob up and down in excitement. Narrowing my eyes at him. "Don't use that as an excuse to start scaring and traumatising people needlessly." Seeing him avoid eye contact made me think that was exactly what is going to happen.

"Sigh, ok just do it in moderation alright? We don't need to get people against us because you popped out of their toilet in the middle of the night". Looking at him while he chuckled silently, I put it to the back of my mind knowing nothing I say would stop him completely.

"Alright well with that said let's get everything put away and we'll head out in an hour." Getting a nod from the Pokémon I turned to tidy up after dinner.

~In an undisclosed location~

Ring ring. Ring ring… "This is Coulson" A voice was heard over the phone.

"Report Coulson, give me some good news, what do you have on our mystery man?" A terse voice spoke out.

"Director we are struggling to tie him down, it seems as soon as we get close he is gone and we get a report from the other side of the city that he has appeared." Fury could hear the frustration regardless of how calm Coulson was trying to be.

"So, you're saying that not only can he sense when your close but now he can what…. Teleport?" asking in disbelief.

"Yes, I know how it sounds, but it seems that's the most likely answer, never before have I seen Romanov and Barton have this much trouble tracking someone down." Confirming his own words.

"MO%^&$#$%*ER, this is the last thing I need, we need to stop him before he escalates and goes too far. The gangs will only put up with so much before they retaliate with full force. Get me something Coulson, anything at this point, even just a chance to talk. He could be an important asset in the future."

"Yes sir." Getting a short answer, he ended the call and sat back running his hands over his head. Looking at his desk with a folder sitting front and centre, opening said folder showed that it didn't contain much, just some blurry photos of a male figure and three different creatures, with a brief description on each picture

After hours of scrutinising the photos and trying to reference the creature and see if they resembled anything on Earth, he had drawn a blank and that left him with the possibility that these were new life forms to this world.

Thinking on that had him looking down at a pager strapped to his waist before shaking his head and looking away.
