31: Locci Snowstar (3)

Kaiser lifted his hands and knelt. "I surrender. You've got me."

Patrick slowly approached, cautious but determined. When he got close, he reached for his handcuffs, but Kaiser suddenly struck his wrist with a swift punch, knocking the pistol from his grip. The gun flew into the air, and with snake-like agility, Kaiser caught it. In one fluid motion, he delivered a powerful roundhouse kick to Patrick's temple, knocking him unconscious.

With Patrick down, Kaiser aimed the pistol at him and turned to Locci. "Drop your gun, or I'll shoot him."

Locci clicked his tongue in frustration but kept his pistol trained on Kaiser. Earlier, he couldn't save Patrick because Kaiser had cleverly used Patrick's body as a shield. This man was no ordinary opponent.

"Do you think I'm joking?" Kaiser said calmly as he aimed at Patrick's leg and fired. "I'll aim higher next."

Locci had no choice but to comply and drop his pistol. However, before it touched the ground, he kicked it toward Kaiser, catching him by surprise.

Kaiser instinctively shot at the flying pistol, causing it to explode. Ignoring the deafening blast, he aimed at Locci. But Locci threw his police hat at Kaiser, blocking his view. Kaiser knew it was a distraction and focused, trying to anticipate where Locci would appear.

Just then, he saw a silhouette in the air and exclaimed, "There you are!" as he pointed his pistol upward.

But it was only a shoe flying over his head. The real Locci was already in front of him, throwing a punch at his wrist. Kaiser barely avoided it by moving his arm. Locci wasn't finished; he followed up with an uppercut to Kaiser's chin, which Kaiser narrowly dodged by bending backward.

Locci took advantage of Kaiser's unstable balance to swiftly sweep his legs, making him fall on his back.

Kaiser gritted his teeth and fired his pistol at Locci, but Locci endured the pain and mounted Kaiser's body, trying to snatch the weapon. Kaiser bent his waist upward, dismounting Locci. Both men quickly got to their feet, but Locci was faster. He kicked Kaiser's hand, disarming him.

Kaiser clicked his tongue in frustration and rushed at Locci, but Locci kicked him again, sending him stumbling back.

Using the momentum, Kaiser grabbed the pistol in mid-air and immediately fired at Locci. However, in his haste, his aim was off, allowing Locci to easily dodge the shot.

Locci threw his shoe at Kaiser's hand, disarming him once more. Then, with another swift motion, he hurled the second shoe, sending the pistol flying far out of Kaiser's reach. As Kaiser chased after the weapon, Locci swiftly closed the distance between them.

Racing ahead, Locci reached Kaiser before he could reach the pistol. With a flying kick, Locci knocked Kaiser aside, sending him tumbling to the ground. Kaiser quickly scrambled to his feet, putting some distance between himself and Locci.

Kaiser caught his breath, his gaze fixed on Locci, who despite being shot, still possessed the strength to continue the fight. Chuckling in frustration, Kaiser asked, "Officer, do you like fighting? I do. Fighting you is fun."

"You lie. You always try to run away from the fight. You don't enjoy fighting. No one enjoys fighting. And I don't enjoy fighting either," Locci said firmly.

Kaiser chuckled. "No one enjoys fighting? Then why are you smiling like that, officer? It seems to me you enjoy it very much."

Locci didn't realize he was grinning until Kaiser pointed it out. He quickly composed himself, adopting a serious expression as he looked at Kaiser.

"To think you're trying to manipulate me into believing I enjoy fighting," Locci said sternly. "For that, I'll teach you a lesson too. I'll show you that you don't enjoy fighting."

"No thanks. I admit it. I don't enjoy fighting. I only take pleasure in watching others fight," Kaiser said, his tone resigned. "I don't want to face a beast like you. I surrender." He knelt on the ground, signaling his submission.

As Locci approached Kaiser, he retrieved his handcuffs, anticipating resistance. However, to his surprise, Kaiser offered no resistance. With a mixture of relief and satisfaction, Locci apprehended him, sealing the success of the operation.

The next day, Locci and Patrick found themselves sharing a hospital room. Visitors poured in to congratulate Patrick on the operation's success, with many also commending Locci for his bravery and skill. Among them, one individual shared the results of Kaiser's interrogation with Patrick, providing closure after their collective efforts.

According to the report, the court did not imprison Kaiser. Instead, they decided to put him into a rehabilitation house.

Hearing this, Locci felt a deep sense of disappointment. Not only had he been injured while apprehending Kaiser, but Patrick had also suffered injuries. However, when he looked at Patrick, he seemed content with how things had unfolded.

"Are you okay with the result, sir?" Locci asked, his disappointment evident.

Patrick smiled. "Sure thing, I got a promotion. Didn't you get one too? Why the long face, Locci?" he asked, his tone gentle but curious.

"It's just that we worked so hard to catch him, but he got away with it so easily. I just feel it's unfair," Locci said, frustration coloring his voice.

"You are wrong. We accomplished our objective. We never really wanted to imprison a conglomerate's son. Our goal was to show them their place, to let them know we can threaten them," Patrick explained, a hint of satisfaction in his voice. "In exchange for Kaiser's freedom, the Washington Corporation has sponsored us with a hefty amount of money. Oh, and I forgot to mention, you got a bonus from them as well. That's good, isn't it?"

Locci was bewildered when he heard that. He had joined the police to fight for justice, but now he realized things were not as clean as they seemed. Disappointment washed over him, but he didn't voice it, knowing he couldn't change anything. He simply accepted Patrick's words in silence.

Fighting for justice had seemed noble, but in the end, Locci realized he only cared about himself. He was just as selfish as everyone else.

A few days later, both Locci and Patrick were discharged from the hospital. While they had received treatment for their injuries, they were not yet assigned to heavy-duty missions. Instead, they were given an annoying yet straightforward task: to watch over Kaiser Washington, who was undergoing rehabilitation.

"We meet again, officer. Just a few days ago, we were fighting to the death. And now, here you are, babysitting me," Kaiser remarked, a wry smile on his face. "Fate works in mysterious ways, doesn't it?"

Locci clicked his tongue in disapproval. "I don't understand why they let you go," he remarked bluntly. "I know you'll just resume your tournaments once this rehabilitation period is over."

"That's an understandable assumption, but believe it or not, I have no intention of starting the tournament again," Kaiser replied earnestly. "I'm now engrossed in a certain online game. And believe it or not, sirs, you both will play that game with me until my rehabilitation period is over."

Locci glanced at Patrick, who nodded in confirmation. "It's true," Patrick confirmed. "Playing that game with him is part of his rehabilitation. And it won't just be us; the team responsible for his rehabilitation will join us in playing the game."

"Now I can't wait to play the game. I've rented out this net cafe just for us today," Kaiser said, gesturing towards the net cafe behind him. "Let's go inside, gentlemen."

They were currently standing on the roadside, with a mango tree nearby. Locci suddenly punched the tree, causing mangoes to fall. Patrick and Kaiser were startled by his display of strength, but Locci paid no mind to their reactions as he glared at them both.

"This is a joke. I don't want to be part of this. Enjoy yourselves," Locci said curtly before turning away.

As he walked, Locci discarded his police hat, insignia, and even his uniform, casting aside the trappings of his former occupation. Fortunately, he wore plain clothes underneath, and he made his way to his apartment, now an unemployed man. And thus, he left his first job behind, unsatisfied with how things operated in his workplace.

Or so he thought. That night, Patrick paid a visit to his apartment, bringing along equipment to install a PC.

"What is this?" Locci asked, puzzled.

"A bribe!" Patrick replied, a hint of mischief in his tone.

"You want me to go back to the police?" Locci questioned.

Patrick then handed Locci's uniform to him. "You dropped this! Don't drop it again!"

"I didn't agree to come back," Locci stated firmly.

"Listen, young man. It's true that things aren't always clean in our workplace, but we're still the ones who uphold peace," Patrick reasoned.

"Getting involved with the dirty side leaves a bad taste in my mouth," Locci said, his resolve evident.

"It won't happen again. You can be the shining white hero all you want. I'll handle the dirty work," Patrick assured him. "Besides, do you really want to be a homeless person again? Don't forget that this apartment is provided by your work."

"I hate it when someone threatens me," Locci said.

"I apologize. Oh, come on, man. Just forget this incident once and give me one more chance. It won't happen again, I promise. I truly feel it's a waste if you stop. You're a talented fighter. We need you," Patrick said earnestly, appealing to Locci.

Locci opened the door of his apartment. "I don't want to take part in that bastard's rehabilitation," he said firmly.

"Okay, so I will help you assemble the PC. Where do you want me to set it up?" Patrick asked.

"My room," Locci said.

"Alright, let's get to it," Patrick replied, ready to help Locci set up the PC in his room.

That night, Patrick set up the PC in Locci's room. Meanwhile, Locci watched tutorials about how to use a PC on Ourtube. This was his first time owning a PC, and he couldn't deny feeling a little excited about it. He wondered what new possibilities awaited him now that he had it.

The next day, Patrick left Locci's apartment and went to meet Kaiser again. Meanwhile, Locci remained in his room, immersing himself in his newly set up PC. He spent hours learning its ins and outs, and by the end of the day, he had finally mastered it. Now, he found himself watching Pokesol anime Season 1 on an online platform.

As he watched, memories flooded back to Locci. This anime had been his favorite as a child, often watched with his now-deceased father, whose face he could barely recall.

"Father, mother, I wonder if they would be proud of me now that I have a job and a place to stay," he muttered to himself.

Shaking his head, Locci pushed the thoughts aside and focused on the anime, trying to escape the painful memories of the accident that had taken his parents' lives.

Throughout the day, he binge-watched the anime, occasionally taking breaks to check the wiki of a newly released game called Nixworld.

Nixworld, a game inspired by the popular Pokesol Anime, was currently experiencing a surge in popularity. Frustrated by the absence of quality Pokesol games, its developers took matters into their own hands and created this immersive experience. The game received widespread acclaim from fans, with over 1 million downloads upon its initial release.

Interestingly, Nixworld was also the game that Kaiser and Patrick played as part of Kaiser's rehabilitation program.
