DW Special 2
Ceailean and Marie entered the elevator to head back down and rode in silence, until Ceailean said, “Let’s go to the Pokémon center.”
Marie seemed to be hesitant, “Really, I wanted to uh, look at the shops downstairs.”
Ceailean turned to face her, “Marie, your Pokémon are hurt, we need to take them there first thing.”
She looked more hesitant, but gave in by saying, “Y-Yeah, first thing.”
Ceailean wasn’t done though, “Honestly though, you’ve been acting a little weird lately.”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“As in avoiding the subject when battling with Snom.”
“Wh-What subject-”
“The fact that it can’t use powder snow effectively. Like, why didn’t you tell me? We would’ve gone to the Pokémon center first thing.”
“Um...well…”
“And another thing, I’ve never seen you act this rebellious before. You were always calm in nature and never really let anything influence you so easily, so what happened?”
The elevator had reached the ground floor and Marie hastily exited, causing Ceailean to block her.
“Please, C.” she said quietly.
Ceailean held his arms on his hips and said, “No, what’s going on?”
She breathed deeply and exhaled, she walked on as she explained, “You know how I live practically on the opposite side of town to the train station.” Ceailean followed her and nodded. “In order to make it in time, I put on ice skates and Snom used powder snow to freeze the ground the whole way there. He tried so hard yesterday, I can’t thank him enough for that. But it left him so exhausted, he couldn’t make it the whole way so I fell and had to ditch the skates and I ran the rest of the way. You know the rest.”
They exited Lumiose tower and walked out into the plaza. “That can't be it.” pointed out Ceailean. Marie froze at him saying this. “Why would you go through the trouble of keeping something like that from me, there has to be more.” Ceailean then got an idea. “Does this have anything to do with your dad?”
Marie backed up and looked at Ceailean as if she was going to cry, “I-”
“YOU TWO!” yelled a voice from across the plaza. A blue haired woman was walking sternly towards them. She was wearing police clothing and an angry looking Manectric followed close behind. She grabbed the radio on her shoulder and said, “This is Officer Jenny at the base of Lumiose tower, I’ve found the suspects wanted for the theft at the Pokémon lab.”
“Do you require assistance?” said the person on the radio.
“No, just looks like a couple delinquent kids to me. Just notify Professor Sycamore of my location.”
Ceailean and Marie stood nervously as she approached, slowly raising their hands as she did so. Fennekin fell out of Marie’s arms and stared down Officer Jenny. Ceailean, having not forgotten the conversation prior said, “Look where we ended up now.” This hit Marie hard. Her stomach sank and she nearly fell over, but didn’t in order to not make herself look more like a fool.
“You two are under arrest!” she shouted.
“Now, we understand the situation we’re in. We’ll fully cooperate, and give back Fennekin.” reasoned Ceailean. Fennekin looked to Ceailean, clearly emphasizing that it didn’t want that to happen.
“Is that so, then perhaps you can also tell me where the rest of them are.”
“The...rest?” asked Ceailean confused.
“Even if you aren't able to tell me, I still have to arrest you under association.”
“Association of what?”
“In association of two-hundred and thirty seven counts of illegal theft and trafficking of Pokémon and starter Pokémon!”
Ceailean was absolutely astonished by this news, “WHAT! I swear for both of us, we were never involved in such things!”
“Yeah yeah, tell them that at the station punk!” Officer Jenny then forced Ceailean to the ground and began to cuff him up.
“Ceailean!” pleaded Marie. She reached over to help but Manectric stood before her and pushed her back. Snom then shot out of her beanie and stood against Manectric defensively.
Fennekin then got involved and jumped up on Officer Jenny, pleading with her. “Grr, not now Fennekin, I’ve got a job to do!” But plead it continued to do until it smelled something. It was what it was looking for! It stopped to focus and figure out where it was coming from. It sniffed and sniffed, until it finally focused upon a man nearby carrying a milk canister. It ran up to him and yelled at him accusingly.
“Huh, what’re you doing you dumb Pokémon!” shouted the man. He tried to move faster but Fennekin bit his pant leg and tugged on it furiously.
Ceailean noticed this and read the situation immediately. He thought of a plan, something he would never do in a sane mindset. He said, “Officer, I suggest we pay attention to what Fennekin is doing, before we both regret what happens afterward.” Officer Jenny looked up and what Fennekin was doing.
“I’ve had enough of you!” said the man angrily. He then kicked Fennekin across the face, sending it flying back a couple feet. He gave a devious smirk as he did this.
“HEY!” shouted Officer Jenny.
The man's smirk quickly shot off his face as he turned to see who confronted him, responding only with an, “Uh-oh.” He heaved the canister over his shoulder and ran away full sprint.
“STOP!” commanded Officer Jenny. She reached over to her radio, “Dispatch, this is Officer Jenny. I have a suspect fleeing-woah!”
Ceailean, furious with the man about what he did to Fennekin, released himself from Jenny’s grip and used all his strength to push himself off the ground. Officer Jenny fell on the floor and without looking at anyone, he ran after him saying, “I’m coming for you, bastard!”
“Dispatch! I have two suspects fleeing east of Lumiose tower, requesting backup!” Marie watched in shock as the events before her unfolded, but before she could say anything, Jenny said, “Manectric, get them!”
“NO!” yelled Marie, unsure of what to do. In response, Snom used struggle bug on Manectric before it could start running, sending it flying into the gardens with a green flash. “Snom!” she called.
“HEY YOU!” shouted Jenny, rushing over to apprehend her. On instinct, Marie scooped up the exhausted Snom and ran away in Ceailean’s direction before Jenny could grab her. She reached into her radio and said, “Dispatch, make that three suspects! East of Lumiose tower!” She then heard wimping panting approaching her and saw Clemont and Bonnie had come out of the tower to help. “You two.”
“We heard *gasp* just now *gasp*.” wheezed Clemont.
“We’re willing to help any way we can.” finished Bonnie.
“Thanks guys, glad to have you on board. Manectric! Let’s go!” Manectric emerged from the grass, absolutely fuming. It roared to the sky as electricity cracked all around its body violently. “This way!” she said, beginning the chase.
“Who’re we looking for?” asked Bonnie following close behind.
“Two kids around twelve years old, they had a stolen shiny Fennekin and a Snom.”
“Huh, those two?” asked Clemont.
“Do you happen to know them?”
“Yes, I had just battled them a couple minutes ago.”
“That has to be a mistake, they were such nice people.” defended Bonnie.
“No mistake about it, they were captured on camera stealing that Fennekin.” Bonnie and Clemont looked to each other solemnly. “But it doesn’t make any sense, why come here of all places. This may be a bait or a trap.” She considered her option, but she chose to move straight ahead, gritting her teeth.
The man rushed through the busy sidewalks, forcibly pushing anyone unfortunate enough to get in his way. Following behind was Fennekin, then Ceailean, causing the crowd to get out of their way in a surprised manner. “Get back here you! I won’t forgive you for what you did to Fennekin!”
“You’re in over your head kid, give up while you still can. This is bigger than the both of you!” said the man, as he sidestepped into an alleyway. Ceailean continued the chase into the narrow alleyway. They bobbed and weaved through many obstacles and dumpsters, until a door opened up with a chef coming through. The man took this opportunity to yank her out of the way and went inside.
Fennekin followed suit, and Ceailean apologized quickly to the chef before going in as well. The man barged through the kitchen, pushing over chefs and knocking over plates. He crashed through the dining area and broke straight through the glass entrance doors and continued right. Fennekin and Ceailean chased him down, but they made sure to cause as little damage as possible by weaving through the mess fast and carefully. Once outside, Ceailean actually bumped into Marie.

“C! What’re you-”
“No time! Keep running!” They both resumed the chase.
“What’re we gonna do?”
“Don’t know, all I know is that I'm taking him down with us!”
Marie looked back and saw something, “It’s going to be harder with her chasing us.” Ceailean looked back as well and saw Officer Jenny pursuing on her bike, Manectric riding in the side car.
“Oh come on!” exclaimed Ceailean.
“You are all resisting arrest, stop now!” shouted Jenny through a megaphone.
The man gave her a quick glance and growled. He then cut across the busy traffic, causing drivers to suddenly swerve and honk. The man ran into another alleyway and Ceailean and Marie followed through the already chaotic traffic jam. Officer Jenny was forced to screech her bike to a halt and ditched it with Manectric following her lead. “I have eyes on the suspects, pursuing on foot!” she said into the radio. She switched channels and then said, “Clemont, they’re heading towards you!”
“No problem! I’ve got the professor with me too!” said Clemont from the radio.
The man looked back and saw that everyone was still chasing him. “You're all a persistent bunch aren’t y’all!”
Fennekin was getting even more frustrated until it looked back to see Officer Jenny yelling, “All of you! Get back here!” It thought for a moment, then it looked up and got an idea. It shot embers into the fire escapes and scaffolding surrounding them, causing them to collapse.
Jenny saw what was going on and stopped herself and Manectric from going any further. Marie saw what was happening and tried to run faster, but it was all coming down. Ceailean noticed this and slowed down. He reached out his hand and called to her. She quickly grabbed it and Ceailean lurched forward, running faster than he ever has in his life. With that, they jumped and narrowly escaped getting crushed. Marie was on the ground coughing with dust blurring their vision.
“Hey! Hey, can you keep going?” asked Ceailean, shaking her to her senses.
“Ye-Yeah, *cough* I’m okay.” she responded.
“Good, let’s keep going!” They both got up quickly and followed the man who at the end of the alleyway quickly observing his surroundings. “Stop!” called out Ceailean. The man whipped around in their direction, but then something else caught in the sky. He quickly shifted out of the way before a Garchomp came crashing down onto the ground, staring down Ceailean and Marie. “Stop!” he shouted to Marie, stopping her with his outstretched arms, Fennekin did so as well.
The Garchomp seemed to not give the man any attention, and upon seeing this the man called out, “HA! Sucks to be you, kid!” and ran off laughing. The Garchomp's unwavering gaze instilled fear as it slowly approached them, its footsteps rattling the ground. Ceailean walked up ahead of Fennekin and shielded it with his outstretched hands, staring back at Garchomp. This did not sit well with it and it became agitated. It began to charge up an attack.
Ceailean quickly reacted and shouted, “Get down!” Marie then dove on top of Fennekin, shielding it with her body. Ceailean then spotted a wooden palette and kicked it up to use it as a shield for himself. A massive purple beam surged from Garchomp's mouth and hit Ceailean dead on, splintering his wooden pallet and sending him flying backwards, landing on his back and flipping over to his front.
“C!” cried Marie. She cowered in fear as Garchomp stood over her. Ceailean watched as he struggled to get back on his feet. Snom then slowly crawled out of Marie’s beanie and challenged Garchomp directly, despite even straining to look up to its face. “No Snom, you’re not strong enough! Please, this is all my fault!”
Fennekin grew determined and left Marie’s protective grasp, walking straight up to Garchomp. “Fennekin, what’re you doing?” asked Marie. Fennekin then did the unthinkable by straight up telling off Garchomp. It became confused and tried to reason with Fennekin, only for it to shake its head vehemently at Garchomp's every response. It then seemed to have gotten tired of arguing and rapidly approached Fennekin.
Fennekin backed up and cried out, “Fennekin! FENNEKIN!” It hid its head and began to cry. Garchomp was visibly taken aback, it then tried to reason in a softer tone, only for Fennekin to reject it once again. Garchomp closed its eyes and sighed, letting out a shallow, “Garchomp.” Fennekin then looked up happily and asked one more question. Garchomp gave it an accepting nod and moved out of the way. Fennekin then ran back to Marie, urging her to keep moving.
“Fennekin? Did you manage to reason with it?” she asked. Fennekin gave her a happy nod, its feet were running in place in anticipation. “What about C?” Fennekin’s smile disappeared and it looked up past Marie.
“I’m okay.” answered Ceailean, offering her a hand.
“C, can you really keep going?” she asked, helping Snom back inside her beanie.
“Just needed a little rest is all.” Marie smiled and accepted Ceailean’s hand, helping herself up. “Is it truly alright?” asked Ceailean, referring to Garchomp.
“I think Fennekin is friends with it.”
Ceailean gave a slight chuckle and locked eyes with Garchomp, “Anything for a friend, right?” Garchomp gave him an approving nod, and let them pass him. They exited the alleyway only to be greeted with an attack nearly hitting them.
“Stop! You’ll hand over that Fennekin this instant!” They looked to see that Clemont and Bonnie stood before them, Bunnleby and Dedenne backing them up.
“No more surprises please.” sighed Ceailean.
“I can’t believe you guys, how could I ever be friendly with you after you did something like steal Fennekin.” shouted Bonnie. Fennekin tried to defend the group, but was interrupted when Garchomp stepped forward, putting itself between the two groups. It told Fennekin something and it gave a determined nod and ran off.
Ceailean thanked Garchomp before running off after Fennekin. Marie stayed slightly longer, saying, “We’ll make it right, I promise.” She followed them with haste.
“Dedenne use nuzzle!” shouted Bonnie. Dedenne rubbed it cheeks, causing them to spark with electricity. It then jumped towards Marie, but Garchomp took the hit before it could reach.
“Huh, Garchomp? What’re you doing?” asked Clemont. Garchomp said nothing, only looking back to see if everyone was out of sight.
Once they were, it yelled, “GARCHOMP!” Its voice echoed across the city and gained the attention of Fennekin, boosting its resolve. It sniffed the air and called back to Ceailean and Marie, then it ran faster. They nodded to each other and matched Fennekin's speed.
Rounding out the corner, they come across a familiar street. The Kodoarla was ahead of them and outside stood a hotel employee, pushing a cart full of bags. Their sights set on the man, who had just turned the corner ahead of them. “There he is!” called out Ceailean, running after him.
Although, behind appeared Officer Jenny, revving up to them once again on her bike. “I’m getting sick of these games!”
Ceailean looked behind him to see her rapidly gaining and his stamina was waning, he wouldn’t last long. He then focused on the baggage cart and saw that his duffle was in it. He yanked it out of the cart as he ran past, causing everything to fall over.
“Hey! Who do you think you are!” shouted the employee angrily.
“Sorry! Thanks for your services!” said Ceailean. Marie ran past him as he hurriedly threw a couple of randomly assorted poke-dollars in his direction.
The employee then looked confused when he picked up the money, only to be surprised by Officer Jenny rushing past him saying, “Don’t let him get away. Manectric, use quick attack!” Manectric jumped out of the car with a white shine covering his body and raced ahead towards Ceailean. He looked back to see who was coming but tripped over and was down on the ground. He braced himself for Manectric’s attack, only for it to not hit as something got in the way. Garchomp was back and it took the full force of the attack. It looked back and ushered Ceailean to keep moving, which he promptly did. This did nothing to stop Jenny, as she raced past Garchomp. It tried to chase after her too, but Manectric was fast to think and it bit his leg, refusing to let go.
Jenny was now beside Ceailean and was getting ready to jump off her bike, despite the passing trees and parked cars. Marie looked back to see what Jenny was doing and said, “Oh no!” She fished Snom out of her beanie and asked desperately, “Snom, I know you’re still not doing well, but we need another powder snow to save Ceailean please!” Snom gave her a nod and tried to launch the attack, but was stopped short by it coughing up a storm. “Please hurry!” Snom tried once more to no avail. “Snom, I know you can do it, so do it! Now!” Snom gathered all of its strength and unleashed an all out attack, but something was different. “Is that, icy wind?” asked Marie. She was stunned as the road froze before them. Officer Jenny noticed what was happening and yelled as she fell off her bike, sliding across the ice harmlessly to a stop. “You’re so cool, Snom! You learned icy wind!” Snom gave her a show of affection before passing out in her hands. She gave it a smile and put it back in her beanie.
Fennekin called out to the two and turned right on an intersection, Marie did the same. Ceailean was now considerably behind, but turned right also. Upon doing so he noticed that Marie and Fennekin were gone, but nonetheless kept running as Officer Jenny was shouting into the radio their whereabouts. He didn’t run too much farther before a set of hands grabbed him by the clothes and yanked him into an alleyway. Ceailean was stunned and shook his head to see that he had fallen on top of Marie.
“Um, C?” she said, completely embarrassed.
Before he could respond, he heard running footsteps and said in a hushed but urgent tone, “Hide!” Ceailean hid behind a box while Marie hid behind a dumpster with Fennekin.
The footsteps stopped and a conversation began, it was Officer Jenny and the other was what Ceailean recognized as Professor Sycamore. “Officer Jenny, where did they go?”
“I don’t know. I was chasing them this way.”
“That can’t be, I would’ve run into them if they did.”
“What? No! I can’t believe I lost them.”
“Officer? Where is Manectric?”
A pause ensued before Officer Jenny resumed, “Oh no, I was so focused on catching them I have no idea where it ended up.”
“Check with Clemont, maybe he knows.”
“Clemont, come in. Do you know the whereabouts of Manectric or the suspects?”
“Yeah, Manectric is with us. But it's currently biting Garchomp's leg and won’t let go. We also don’t know where the thieves went, sorry.”
“Manectric is assaulting Garchomp, that’s definitely unusual.” said Sycamore.
“Sure is, let’s check it out!” With that, they heard running and stayed in place until it faded away.
“Okay, I think we’re good.” said Ceailean, slowly rising from his hiding place. Marie followed his lead and placed her hand on her chest.
“Oh man, I couldn’t run for much longer. Thank goodness.”
“Yeah, you and me both. Hey, where’s Fennekin?”
Ceailean and Marie looked around for it until Marie spotted something. “Look here, it left tracks.” They followed them until they came across another turn in the alleyway. Fennekin was standing behind a cargo truck sniffing around, but suddenly turned around to them and ushered to come.
“What is it Fennekin?” asked Ceailean. Fennekin then gestured to the truck, barking angrily. “Does this have to do with that man?” Then the truck started up, startling the group. “Doesn’t matter, get inside.”
“You can’t be serious,” said Marie.
“Look we can’t stay here, we get in or it's bust.”
“O-Okay.” quickly agreed Marie. Ceailean cupped his hands together to use as a platform and Marie placed her foot on them.
“One, two, three, go!” said Ceailean, lifting her up inside the truck. She fell behind the tarp with a thud, then came back out to bring in Fennekin which Ceailean handed her. Once that was done, she held out her hand to bring in Ceailean. But once he grabbed it, the truck started moving.
“Hurry!” she cried. Ceailean pulled hard and planted his feet on the door, pulling himself up before being exposed on the street. The truck rocked as it made its way on the street.
Ceailean and Marie laid in the truck completely out of breath. “Let’s hope that’s over,” said Ceailean, picking himself up and peeking through the tarp covering the back of the truck. They were heading back the way they came, evident by the icy road. He also saw Garchomp, Officer Jenny and Sycamore running to its side as Bonnie tried to tug Manectric off of it. This resulted in her getting electrocuted though.
“Yeah, I think we’re good.”
