B3 Epilogue

Hundreds of Healers and Mythics rushed through the narrow gaps, evading the injured lying in makeshift sickbeds. They took care of as many patients as possible but help came too late for more than two third of the united forces.

Even the survivors weren’t unscathed. The luckiest were exhausted and covered in deep cuts, whereas the worst cases were put in a comatose state to ease their pain and preserve their lives or what was left of it.

Several Healers wanted to tend to the Old King, but he waved dismissively while retrieving a few potions from his storage ring. He removed the cork and emptied the potions in one go.

“You look old,” A weak voice rang out. The Old King turned to his son and flicked his forehead, “Is that how you talk to your father?”

Phillip Kain stifled a laughter, only to grimace in pain when his wounds troubled him.

“They tried healing your wounds, but the Devil infused his Essence into every attack at the end. Many good people died because of that,” The Old King smiled sadly, his attention pulling outside the infirmary where the corpses of the deceased were collected by those few who could still move.

“The kingdom is no more, right?” Phillip commented in a composed manner, “Percy did it, didn’t he?

“The kingdom didn’t disappear,” The Old King shook his head, “But yes, your son did it. He did what had to be done to protect the kingdom.”

Phillip Kain glanced at his son, who had regained consciousness a few minutes earlier. He was surrounded by Fiona, her parents, and his friends, but looked over when he noticed his father was awake.

If not for [Monster Regeneration] and Fiona, Phillip Kain would be no more. Even then, Phillip would never be the same. He was permanently injured after using too much lifeforce and Essence before his chest was pierced. Phillip Kain’s mana reservoir got damaged, weakening him forever.

He was not fit for the throne anymore. Fortunately, Phillip Kain found a suitable heir.

“The kingdom has a strong king, don’t you think so, father?” Phillip asked the Old King, whose wrinkled face twisted into an ugly smile. He was a good one, though a bit green behind his ears.”

“We can help him,” Phillip Kain reminded his father, who nodded slowly.

“That’s true. After all, we are still alive.”

Percy didn’t hear everything his father and grandfather said, but he was glad they had the energy to bicker.

“Did you really capture the Devil? What does that feel like?” Erik asked, his eyes glimmering.

Erik was probably the only one who could remain energetic after fighting a great flood of demons and a Devil for four days. He was injured, forcing Fiona to pull him on a patient bed a few times before he accepted her healing.

“I don’t really feel anything,” Percy responded with a shrug, a painful one, “Except pain.”

He tried retrieving the Capture Card but couldn’t. It was also not possible to summon the Devil. But maybe…just maybe that was for the best.

I don’t have any control of the Devil. Well, it’s not like that matters. There is no need to control or summon the Devil. Keeping him sealed is more than enough.

Nonetheless, Percy checked the Devil’s information and shared it with the rest.

[Devil – Weakened]

[Ruler of the Seven Hells, Greed]

The Devil’s title was suitable. It was only one of the Seven Hells’ rulers, but he was likely the greediest. It was almost like he was the incarnation of greed.

Is that why he was so obsessed with humans?

Percy was curious, but only a little. He wouldn’t summon Greed to ask him any questions. The Devil was better off sealed away until the end of time.

“What will you do now?” Melissa asked, not even glancing at the Devil’s Card.

Percy shrugged, “The Beastlands and Kainesh Kingdom worked well together, but this alliance ends now. Nonetheless, both nations are weaker than ever, but the Kainesh Kingdom lost a lot more. We have to rebuild everything.”

“That won’t be easy,” Tarlek mumbled weakly, the blood-drenched bandages all over his body showing clearly where he was supposed to be; Lying on a bed, resting for days, if not weeks. Yet, there he was, standing next to Percy, thinking about the kingdom’s situation.

“The Kainesh Kingdom is not what it used to be. It was consumed,” Fiona mumbled, flicking Tarlek’s forehead before planting him on a sickbed next to his brother.

Lots of work awaited Percy, but it was not like he had ever been afraid of work. If anything, Percy was ready to take responsibility for his actions.

He smiled vibrantly at Tarlek, Erik, Melissa, Fiona, and everyone else who had always been there for him.

They survived. They defeated the Devil and his forces. There was no need to worry anymore. No time to waste.

“What are we waiting for? We have a kingdom to rebuild!”
