The Greatest Crime

"You must be confused about the card inside your heart right?" The blonde girl asked with an all knowing smile.

"Well, it's actually pretty simple, the card represents your strength, and also your entire life. If someone gets a hand on your card, which is unlikely, because even if someone cuts out your heart they wouldn't find the card. The card only manifests once you get strong enough, and the strength of a card is represented by the higher number. It goes from Ace, 2, 3, etc. The highest card is 'King' you would basically be considered a god, once you reach it."

"Has anybody reached it before?" Isaac asked with a very intrigued expression, he wanted to reach the top one day.

"Well yes, a lot, but most of them died already, leaving us with the current gods most of the churches worship." She explained in a quite laid back manner, clearly not interested in the topic.

Isaac just smiled and asked, "So what's your name? My blonde friend."

"Ooh, thank you for asking me. My name is Bianca, Bianca Goldenwool." She was more interested in topics that talked about her, as she talked about herself in a very enthusiastic manner.

Isaac learned from Bianca, that she came from a higher nobility, her family's business was assassination. It explained a lot because most nobles wouldn't choose this job, since they would rather live a very comfortable life. Bianca also introduced the other members, the man that looked like a wolf was Heulen Wolf. His name matched his characteristic, he also came from a higher nobility, but his family business was drug dealing.

Drugs is a major business in the kingdom of Herz. It made a lot of money, because a lot of nobles and a lot of peasants were addicted to it. Drugs help keep the peasants happy so they didn't get the idea of revolting. Most peasants who slaved for an entire month usually ended up using the money to buy drugs. The law did nothing against drug dealers because it was good for the economy and it helps keep the emotional stability of the peasants safe.

Heulen's family controlled a lot of other smaller nobility and could be considered one of the top class. The last one who was still reading the dictionary of words came from a more mysterious origin. No one knows his name since he doesn't even know his own name, so everyone calls him Old Man. The old man had a wife, well that's what he told everyone, but it hasn't been proven true. There were no documents on the old man or the wife, but he was considered a citizen of Herz.

The old man was apparently attacked by something or someone, and he suffered an injury that made it so he loses portions of his memory every day. Yet again, this hasn't been proven true, but he reads the dictionary of words every day so he doesn't lose the more important memories every day he wakes up. He was found by Earl Viscera the same way he found Isaac, he was simply noticed to have signs of awakening. So that was how he joined the team.

"Oh by the way, I'm a number 5, Heulen is a number 6, and the old man is a 7 I think. So we're all seniors that you have to obey, got it?" Bianca said in a quite gratified manner, as she finally had someone who was weaker than her.

"No problem." Isaac who was finally let go of his bonds, simply bowed towards her.

"Alright then, we have a mission to deal with. There has been a businessman who has been tax evading. Usually we let some of these people's action go unnoticed, but we can't really sit one out of tax evasion so we gotta 'persuade' him." Bianca lazily commented as she read a document in front of her hand.

"Hey newbie, why don't you deal with this yourself? You need the experience of doing missions anyway. We're not like the churches who actively seek out trouble makers, we just keep the order in the kingdom, make sure the rich don't get too much power, they extend their influence on the royal family and the church also. They're our biggest opponent, the church."

Isaac knew from inference that this mission was probably intended for Bianca originally, but because she was lazy and there was a newbie she decided to pass it onto him, with the flimsy excuse. What he paid more attention to was that the churches were their opponent, it made sense. He was invited by Earl Viscera, so he seemed to be working for the royal family.

As he was reading the document Bianca passed onto him, Heulen came out from another room with clothes in hand. He threw the clothes at him and Isaac caught all of them with nimble reflexes.

"Oh yeah, wear this attire instead, you look like fucking shit with the current attire you're wearing." Heulen then walked out from the white marble door, and the rest of the team left to do their own bidding. Isaac was left stranded by himself, to do the mission alone.

He wasn't mad, instead he took it as an opportunity to get used to his job and get experience. He put on the attire, which was another blench trench coat, but this one was made of a better material and it had silver edges on it. There was a golden pattern decorated on the coat that looked like emblems of the royal family. The coat also had a silver medal representing the royal family, apparently the royal family was quite nice to their workers.

With the new white shirt and black tie that also came with the emblems of the royal family, Isaac walked out of the coal factory looking quite dazzling. He walked quite uncomfortably with the new shoes that were too professional for him, it pained him to take a step but he had to wear it as part of the attire because it had an insignia of the royal family.

Isaac stared at the people who were lining up to the coal factory and smiled at them. While they were going to a dead end job, Isaac's life had been turned around quite fast. He couldn't help but feel a sense of pride, but he didn't let it get to him. He was still quite weak, and he needed to get stronger. As he thought of this Isaac walked until the line of the peasants were gone from his view and he headed toward the location of the tax evading man.
