It has been two days since the incident with Emanuel has passed. Isaac went out of his way to fetch himself some presentable clothing so that he didn't look like a complete beggar in front of the people who he was supposed to meet.
He still wore a black trench coat but this time he wore a new sleek black leather shoes and wore black gloves. He wore a white buttoned shirt and as he tried to fix the black tie on him, he noticed that it was probably time for him to go as well.
He opened the door and the great smog infiltrated his nose. Ahh the wonderful smell of industrialization. It made the rich, richer and the poor even poorer. It only had to work off from the suffering of millions of peasants. As he grabbed a branch from a tree to navigate where he was going, he started heading north.
On the way he saw a lot of carriages that were driven by pale sickly horses. The smog didn't spare animals either, but it was fine apparently there was a supposed new invention that would replace the horses soon. It was called the cars, apparently it ran off from gasoline which was apparently the thing everyone wanted to hog.
There was a story about a miner who one day randomly struck a cave system and the cave system let out a gush of oil. The miner then told the government about this, and he was given 5% share of it, turning him from rags to riches overnight.
As more people heard this story, they also wanted to try their luck so it was basically a scavenger hunt for who could find oil. While the peasants were out searching for the oil the rich were just making money off from their success and giving them a small share to the people who found it, and this kept the people happy.

Isaac had been walking around for about a good 30 minutes now and he finally arrived at his destination. It was Osborn's Coal Factory. Osborn was one of the richest men alive, he owned most of the coal factories which gave him a monopoly over it. His success was built from the millions of bodies of peasants who usually died from working at his factories.
Working with coal wasn't safe but the peasants would rather keep working for the little money than give up and be desolated like the others on the street. If they got sick they would still go to work, nothing was worse than getting sick because that means you might have to take a day off of work and when you do that, someone might replace you the next day. They repeated this until they usually succumbed to their illness and died, but no one cared if they died, it just meant that a new spot was open.
As Isaac saw the long line of peasants waiting for a job at the coal factory, he even saw some utensils that pointed to the signs of some of these people sleeping here just so they could be first in line. As Isaac saw this he couldn't but smile, Osborn was in control of millions of people and the government couldn't do anything about it even if it caused serious health issues. It wasn't Osborn's fault that the people deliberately wanted to work for him and die and even if that was a problem he could just wave his hand full of money and the people would turn a blind eye.
As Isaac thought of this he wished he could have this much power in the future, the power to control people without being controlled himself. It must be quite intoxicating. As he finally broke out of his delusion he walked into the coal factory.
