It had been a week since Isaac jumped off the bridge. He was back in his poor but affordable apartment, the kettle that was on the grime infested stove boiled. As the white steam escaped from the lid of the kettle, Isaac was snapped out from his doze. He was sitting on an old wooden chair that looked like it was about to break down any moment.
In his hand was a dead rat, he had to fight a homeless man on the street for the rat. Rats cost quite a pretty nickel to get. Even though no one knew what kind of disease the rats were holding, they would still rather suffer the consequences than die of starvation. That was the life of the poor unfortunately.
He put the dead rat with an exposed skull that looked like it was carved open by an amateur on the table and went to the kettle. As he took the kettle off the stove and turned the heat off, he poured himself a glass of water inside a mug that had a broken handle.
He took a sip out of the hot and very plain water that almost scorched his tongue, and decided to let it cool off before he took any more sips. As he sat in contemplation he had been thinking of the recent events that happened.
He somehow survived a fatal suicide and woke up alive, and the best part about it was that he was blessed with a strange power. The injuries on his body had recovered inhumanly fast and he now look like he didn't try to commit suicide in the first place. The only thing that doubted it was the scar on his head that the rock cracked open.
He tested various things with his new ability like trying to control various strays and birds that he found. Unfortunately he didn't feel the connection that he did with any of them, so he thought up of the maggots that he did feel a connection with and decided to get them. He had to buy bread that was moldy and infested with maggots to get it, and it was quite a fierce competition. There was another poor beggar that was competing for the bread against him but he eventually came out on top.

As he tried to control the maggots on the bread, he was indeed able to connect with them, but his limit was only 5. Anymore than that and he got an insufferable headache and a nosebleed. Although it was a very cool ability to control maggots.. they were simply too weak. He wouldn't be able to control maggots and kill someone with it, it was simply a fool's dream. So he brainstormed ideas and he came up with a plan of having the maggots invade other animal's bodies and control them.
He came out with multiple subjects and that included dogs, cats, rats, birds, and other insects that he could find. Unfortunately during his week he could only get a dog, a rat, and some cockroaches. He had already butchered the dog and tried to control the dog's brain, but the brain was too complex for the poor maggots to pilot it. So he stored the body of the dog in a box that had cold air running through it to keep it cold. The thing was called a fridge and it was quite literally impossible to get without being well off. Although he wasn't well off that didn't mean his parents were, they lived quite a comfortable life when they were still alive, but now that they are dead. He had to move to this poor apartment to save money and the only things he took were his clothes, the fridge, and some other various utensils.
As he controlled the cockroaches he realized that he wasn't satisfied with just them. He wanted to control more complex and stronger creatures. So the first step after the cockroaches was the rat. The rats were a good choice, their brain was less complex than a dog's and they had various diseases that could serve as a fighting force.
As he finished rethinking the events that happened, he reached out his arm to the cup of water that had now turned cold and drank it all. He walked back to the rat on the table and the maggots came out from his sleeve and it crawled into the brain of the rat.
He was getting a headache from doing this, it was quite taxing controlling 5 maggots that were required to work together on the rat. As the maggots reached the respective spots in the brain he simply ordered them to bite the individual parts of the brain.
His forehead was covered in sweat as he watched the nerve wracking scene. Apparently the gods were feeling quite nice to him today, and the rat's body started twitching. It first was the tail, then the legs, and then the entire rat was moving. As Isaac watched this scene, he felt a sense of accomplishment from his hard work and smiled.
