Chapter 12

Luckily for the mages, they were able to escape the city without incident. Once outside, they latched on to the walls on the outside and peered inwards to try to see what was going on.

“I can’t see what’s going on.” Lakan said.

“Yeah, they’re just blasting their way through.” Hark said.

“They’re going towards the city center.” Lara said.

“Nah,” Lakan said. “They’re going towards the divine level. There’s nothing of note at the city center. Just a garage filled with floating tubes.”

“Did you just refer to jetcoaches as floating tubes?” Hark laughed

“Sungans??!!” Lara exclaimed. Refocusing the attention of her fellow mages.

Lakan peered in the direction Lara was looking at, and sure enough, in the midst of the dust and wind, they caught attention of the black and yellow colors of the Sungan Kingdom.

“Those fucking bastards!” Lakan screamed.

Hark facepalmed. “Sungans are such savages, bloody hell.” he resigned.

“We need to contact the guys at home…” Lara said.

“Most of them aren’t home.” Lakan replied “Segi is in Hiyagara -”

“Mullam is home. Wave to him immediately.” Lara said.

“Why can’t you?” Hark asked.

“Oh My Goodness Hark!” Lara exclaimed in a rare fit of passion. Hark Grumbled and jumped down from the wall. He invoked his spell and stood there with the smoke wafting around him, after a few seconds he shouted back.

“Mullan’s not picking!”

“Wave to Binko!” Lakan shouted back.

A few seconds of silence… then he shouted.

“Hey Binko! The Sungans have invaded Pirun!”

There was silence for a short while, Hark looked back at them…

“She broke the wave as soon as she heard.” Hark said.

“So what do we do now?” Lara asked the others.

“We stay here and keep watching.” Lakan said. “The others will want a detailed account of what happened here.”

Okay Let’s split up, go around the wall and record what you see.

“Cool.” Lara said and sped off, Lakan and Hark looked at each other.

“Damn I can’t tell if she’s eager to watch them or get away from us,” Lakan said. “I’m’ off, You stay here.” he sped off in the opposite direction.

Hark sighed and jumped up a few meters and latched on to the wall using a sucker spell he already had activated. He then peered over the wall to watch what was happening.

The battle was taking place in the skies. Above the city. The mages were using spring spells to jump several meters into the sky to launch devastating attacks at each other before falling back down, a uniquely Sungan style of attack

Every few seconds, the shockwaves from the attacks reached Hark with loud booms. Surely several Pirun citizens would have been deafened by now.

The attack raged as Lakan ran along the bottom of the wall to his new vantage point, He casually noted that he could be running on the wall if he had written a field spell by now.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

He soon reached his vantage point, and jumping a few meters high with a spring spell he landed on the battlements of the wall and peered into the city. Some people near the wall saw him, and assuming that he was one of the attackers, fled for their lives. He paid them no mind and continued to watch.

The battle was essentially harmless to the attackers and the defenders as they seemed to be evenly matched, Hark gritted his teeth, realizing that this was a full scale invasion. Sungan had thrown their elite forces at this. If they didn’t win, it was over for them.

The battle continued to rage in the skies, above the city, white hot, red hot and blue hot energy beams and balls crisscrossed the skies and clashed together in massive bright explosions that sent multiple shockwaves around the city, tearing stone and rending tiles. The power of unrestrained spells was a marvel to behold, even as it undoubtedly massacred dozens in the city below.

Pirun was a massive city, Lara realized as she landed on the battlements after jumping, she was the closest to the fight and saw the sprawling city from atop the walls.

The Sungan War mages were close to the Divine level now, they had been beating back the defenders.

“Maybe Ganz was really a one trick pony” She thought to herself.

She decided to write one wave spell to try to contact the Aku’andan forces to send reinforcements. If Ganz was unable to defend against relatively primitive Sungan Magic, then Aku’andan forces would overwhelm him.

She brought out a piece of paper and pen and started to write, after a shockwave from a blast ripped the paper up from under her pen, she invoked a Dome shield spell, around her, brought out another paper, and began to write.

It was only a few sentences long, and as soon as she was done, she invoked the spell, calling on Binko.

The heartbeats were replaced with Binko’s panting voice.

“Hey Lara!” She shouted “We’re on our way!”

“How many of you?” She asked.

“Only five. Most of us have no battle ready spells.” Binko said. Lara’s heart sank.

“What’s a warfare mage without warfare spells?” She remarked.

“Well there hasn’t been a war for like a century Lara!” Binko said. “How’s it going over there?”

Lara looked up just fast enough to notice a massive energy beam rickocheting off a bright emerald defense spell a kilometer away making its way towards her. She panicked and screamed, invoking her defense spells three times.

The Beam slammed against the hastily constructed spells and exploded. Sending her flying back and smacking her back on the wall merlons. Her head swung back and slammed against the brick. As her world turned black, she could hear Binko screaming her name.

Lord Daron, clad in nothing but a towel around his waist, was lying on a deck chair at a secluded hot spring in Inoko, a commercial district near Yemaye, in Aku’anda. It had been weeks of stress and he was finally ready to unwind, and this place was the best place to get away.

Yes, Ganz had finally taken over and would have to be taken care of eventually, But he was proud of the diplomacy Aku’anda had displayed. Especially in calming the Sungans. Lord Defon was terrific.

He reclined properly on his chair and accepted a cocktail from one of the hostesses. Letting the soft sun warm his skin. He looked at the bubbling water with the steam wafting off of it. Savouring the sight before diving in. Then there was a commotion at the reception area. He looked in the direction, only to see two young war mages approaching him directly. He sat up to receive them.

“My Lord Daron!” one of them exclaimed. “We had to find you. Pirun was attacked just minutes ago by the Sungans!”

“What?!” Lord Daron bellowed and stood up immediately. His towel slipped a bit, he immediately caught it before it went too far, losing his drink in the process. It fell to the ground and spilled.

“What did you say?” He asked again, desperately hoping he’d just heard them wrong.

“The Sungans invaded Pirun, my Lord Daron” He repeated. Lord Daron stared at him blankly for a few seconds. Then, regaining his composure, he reached for his clothes.

“Wait for me outside, I’ll join you.” He said sternly. They left and he hastily wore his clothes, the heat of fear, anger, and confusion building within him. His crimson colored drink had begun to spill into the pool.

“Savages!” He screamed and hustled out.

He joined them and began to walk briskly towards Hall Bolak. The Mages hurried after him.

“Who else knows about this?” He asked.

“All the Lord Mages.” One of them replied. His name was Regar. “Lord Defon did not take it well, He fainted and is currently hospitalized.”

“And your colleagues?” Lord Daron asked.

“Five Mages, led by Binko, who got the news.” Regar replied. "They are on their way to Pirun now."

“She has contacts in Pirun?” Lord Daron asked.

“Lakan, Hark and Lara,” Regar replied.

“What?” Lord Daron asked, even more confused. “What were they doing in Pirun in the first place? Never mind, don’t answer that.”

He paused and faced the other Mage. “You, send a message to Binko, Lakan, whoever the hell is at Pirun, tell them to NOT attack, tell them to stand down, you hear me?! Regar, come with me.”
