Alex awoke in a daze with bleary eyes. Looking around, he saw a white lanscape with a pitch black sky. Wondering where he is or if there was a malfunction in the Coffins system Alex began walking. After an hour of aimlessness did he see a change in the surroundings.
A chair. With a person just reading a book sitting in it. The woman didn't pay Alex any attention, just flipping a page and continuing with her business.
"Hope?" He already recognized who it was, but still wanted some king of confirmation. Instead all she did was briefly glance at him with that look of 'seriously. Thats your first question?' then looked back down.
That look alone gave aweay everything. "So this is your doing. You do know that I walked for an hour for no reason." Alex was quite irritated for having to do something so meaningless and boring.
Hope sighed before looking up and saying. "Did it really not go through that thick skull of yours that you are actually walking?"
Wait what? Alex looked down and saw none of the cybernetics that he had assumed was allowing him to move. As if his body only now just realized that something was wrong, Alex fell to the ground. Trying to push himself up for some reason all he could accomplish was moving into an upright sitting position. Looking up at Hope he was silently blaming her for no longer being able to walk again.
"Why are you looking at me like that. It is not my fault that you are an idiot." Hope was laughing without a care in the world.
"Besides. You never noticed which meant that your brain is the one at fault for this." She said while waving her hand at her downed master.
"Well what should I do. It isn't like I can just jump up and start walking as if everything for the past 16 years was a dream... Right?" That last little bit just slipped out. In all honesty he could not figure out what was happening when just before he could walk perfectly.
"Like I said. It is your brain. Because of being within the gamespace your body is back to full health, but your brain still has to operate it just like anyone else. Having been cripled for all your life you are quite litterally like a baby who has not taken its first steps yet." Hope explained before another fit of badly suppressed giggles.
Wanting to change the topic to save what was left of his ego he asked. "What is this place?"
Hope stopped laughing, showing only a serious expression. "This is a game version of Earth. The world itself has not been named as a whole because the various kingdoms, tribes, and races call it differently. When all the servers are joined together the most common name spread across will likely be it."
That did make sense. Wait. Something about what she said just now didn't seem quite right.
"What do mean by it will likely be called that name." That just did not make any sense.
Hope just shrugged before staring back at him. Going by normal game standards then that should be apart of the Lore.
"Alright if I am beginning in the game why am I talking to you. Father only told me that humanity was going into cryostasis until the planet is livable again."
"Well he was right. He just didn't bother to tell you the whole story. Humanity will be locked inside of a game until the Earth and the rest of the solar system colonies are restored to hospitable conditions. There is also an added bonus of whatever you do in game to enhance your IRL body through the Coffin and nanites. There is little else I have time to tell you other than your special entrance speech so lets get on with it."
This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it
With that Hope turned aroung an walked 3 steps before turning back to begin whatever speech she has cooked up for Alex. Her eyes were cold and empty as if she was not the one who was actually talking.
"Welcome. As a member of the First Wave of humanities integration into the Evolutionary System you will be granted a class. The explaination of classes will go more indepth once in game, but just know that you can only learn skills and magic by obtaining the corresponding classes. The more classes you have the greater the spread of possible skills as well as the higher the synergy between them." Hope closed her eyes and reopeneed them with the same glitter in them as before.
With a shudder she said, "That was unpleasant. Hopefully there won't be many other times in which I have ti have the system talk through me like that. Anyway thats it. Th only thing left is the gifts that your father left for you. So I will leave you to it. Goodbye Alex."
With one last smile Hope turned around and vanished into a cluster of sparkles. In her place was a single gift box.
Grunting Alex crawled over to this gift. Just touching it caused a shower of light that was absorbed into his body.
Congratulations Host
Integrating Inheritance....
Integration of Dwarf bloodline complete.
Received skill Balance.
As the system completed whatever process a sudden change occured in Alex. His hieght of 6 feet started to shrink to 4 feet. In addition to his strange height change he found that he could stand if he wanted to.
Although it was only a thought in the back of his mind due to the skill Alex carefully pushed both his hands to the ground. It was a very shaky 5 minutes of careful, slow adjusting before he was standing fully.
Having a satisfied grin that his Father had given him a tool to finally allow him to stand tall for himself. That thought caused his smile to change into a frown as he looked at his short stature.
Well I guess that is done.

Mountain Lord Dungeon Master
Oh boy. "System, may I have a breif description of the classes."
Yes Host
Mountain Lords are the rulers of the dwarven race. They grow in power as the mountain symbolizing their power increases in mana and qi, flora, and fauna density. To become a mountain lord means to be the origin causes for any change in the home of your dwarf citizens. Dungeon Masters dominate their territories. The function of the master is purely deterined y the type of dungoen under his/ her charge. The master expands their territory by claiming land not populated by sentient life.
Mountain Lord possesses many benefits in the early acquisition of forces and large territory, but also has an immense responsibility to their dwarven people. The Dungeon Master appears to be very weak personally in the beginning, but will have the greatest territory as long as there are not any sentients in the region.
Hmmm. Both are strong for different reasons and require the same style to grow stronger, but I feel like...
"System I have made up my mind. My starting class shall be Dungeon Master."
