Armad couldn't hold the nausea that overcame him. He tried to hold it down but it overflowed from his mouth and gushed out through his nostrils.
Blood spattered on the wall in front of him. Sulaini, who was fighting commander Kisa Wilberforce let out a pent-up breath when he saw that.
That singular action distracted him from his opponent, and he looked away from him for just a heartbeat.
But it was enough for Kisa to disarm him and proceeded to injure him on the left hand. He was lucky it wasn't his sword arm for he would have fallen that instance.
Three captains rushed towards Armad, and the Deva stationed in their path vanished and appeared before them, caging in the offending captain.
While behind the wall, enemy warriors were continuing to scale the settlement. The battle by now has begun afresh and is all the more bloody.
The warriors that were initially driven away have returned by now and the distance between Armad and his men was becoming more pronounced. Only Nusi remained a bit closer to him and she was his only chance of getting any help at the moment.
But Nusi had her eyes set on her trees that were now dying. She was trying to press more cultivation into them to see if she could arouse them again. Her mind stubbornly refused to believe that the skill employed by that man to scatter the smoke from the tree worked and would continue to do so.
She felt that the trees would continue to emit the smoke and would go a long way to push back the enemies until even their commander was defeated.
But for all the long minutes that dragged by her hope declined.
And now, here stood Armad, injured, not far from her. His skin was shockingly unscathed where it was supposedly stabbed.
But the ugliest injury he sustained was from the blow he took from Nura Bayajidda. The man was so tough that only a few mountains could outmatch him in the world.
The blow from him contained a lot of force and was about the only thing that singlehandedly incapacitated Armad. Almost all the organs on that side of his body were affected and the sword also injured him but didn't penetrate his skin.
Only a bone or two got dislocated by that. As for the dagger used by Nura, it only managed to irritate him.
In all, the most debilitating injury came from that godforsaken blow.
But he had since expected such injuries even before the battle, for he was aware that it was only his skin that was enhanced. All his organs were very much the same as they had always been.
He wouldn`t be taken unawares again, though the three men took advantage of him while he was about to kill their comrade.
Still, he didn't expect the injury to be this bad even though he deliberately let them hit and stabbed him while he was killing their fellow Deva. And since then he knew that he couldn't escape them unscathed.
Without any move to conceal his action, Armad brought some pills out of his holding bag. They were a handful which he didn't bother to count as he threw all of them inside his mouth.
They melted inside his mouth and those that couldn't get enough moisture to dissolve had to be swallowed because he lacked the strength or time to do anything otherwise.
After downing the first handful, he took out another and repeated the process.
But Nura Bayajidda and his fellow assailant weren't in the mood to let him recuperate or make another move towards them. They regrouped and made a United attack on their prey.
Meanwhile, Nusi who by now had lost all hope of reviving her smoke ran towards them. The distance between them was only a few feet away and wasn't that far away. By the time she reached him, the attacks had almost made an impact.
Armad had noticed the swords computing his way, but taking the pills was his utmost priority at that moment. Healing his wounds came first before self-defense, still, he swung his sword forward just in time.
Though his opponents were Deva, they were unlike those he had fought before. These were well-trained and cunning in battle, and they had already noticed how that blow from Nura had affected him.
They both dropped their swords and balled their fist, ready to rain blows on him.
They had almost closed the distance between themselves and their prey when Armad's sword hit one of them on his balled fist.
But the blows also hit home at the same time. The sword came down on his backbone, breaking it with a sickening crunch. Armad instinctively cried out in pain, as the fist touched his spinal cord.
By then, Nura's fist was almost upon him. But Nusi arrived just in time to push Armad aside.
She used her body to shield him and absorbed the blow instead, all two fists landed on her body, one on her lower chest and the other on the side of her lower abdomen.
They were heavy blows the like of which she had never experienced. The force of them flung her backward as blood flowed freely from her mouth.
With great difficulty but quite defiance, she removed some pills and took them.
Meanwhile, the first Deva had a deep cut on his hand. His middle finger was only held by a string of skin and the said hand was almost sliced in two.
He was losing focus with pain and he held his bloodied hand growling like a dying pup.

He had hit the sword point just as his fist landed on Armad. It happened so fast when the sword was thrown backward by Armad as he tried to block the blow from his blind spot.
The Deva had no time to withdraw before he hit the sword point-blank.
Only Nura looked unhurt among them. The pills chose this moment to have their effects displayed for all to see.
Right before their eyes, Armad's backbone was previously smashed straightened up, and fused itself back. The spinal code that was moments ago almost severed from his back filled up and attached itself to the bone. His inner organs healed and went back to their normal positions.
Still, Armad looked pale due to the loss of blood he suffered when he vomited.
He wasn't sure as yet as to the extent of healing the pills could render him, but he noticed that his blood was still low and his head swam.
He took some more pills and felt much better but not fully restored. He still felt a bit dizzy and knew that it would take some time to regain the blood he lost.
At the moment he was fast discovering the healing properties of this pill and wondered if it could heal any wound no matter how severe.
But like any seal or skill, he understood that the energy pills certainly had a limit.
He wondered if he would regrow new limbs if his legs were to be cut off, but he wasn't very keen to try that on himself, so his mind shifted to another thought.
At the moment, he needed to use the chance and find out the amount of blood that could be regained by the pills. He still felt dizzy from lack of blood, meaning that it wasn't fully regained at the moment.
Armad released a deep breath. He was aware that his skin was the only organ that was enhanced, but his internal organs needed some working on.
On the other hand, it was a wake-up call for him to hasten his skin enhancement to a hundred percent. He was allowed by the System to do so before targeting his flesh later.
As for his organs, they may likely be toughened up alongside the flesh since they are technically flesh also.
His muscles and veins would follow suit, and when that happens, the severity of injuries his organs would suffer could be limited.
This also needed to be taken to a hundred percent before System would allow him to start working on his bones.
All this would give him complete protection from any blow and would prevent its fracture or any harm from an opponent.
And when his bone strength would reach a hundred percent he was sure that only a few persons could make a dent on him.
One last message he received from System was the ability to enhance his blood also. He wasn't sure it would make much impact but he was aware that many of his organs use blood to function. He wondered if his body would receive an overall enhancement when the blood was strengthened.
Despite him being presently on the battlefield, Armad couldn't help but be excited about such a prospect. Inconsequential cultivators like the ones he was facing at the moment wouldn't be worth a second look from him when this was achieved. He sighed and pushed away that thought from his mind.
The most important thing to do at the moment was to do away with the two Devas before him. He wasn't about to let himself get hurt again but then how would he kill them without the risk of getting hurt? He had managed to kill two but the remaining two seemed cunning and smarter.
He realized that he had underestimated the one Deva whom he had previously considered the weakest link among them.
He seemed to have mastered the skill of mashiyalatu for he was about the only person with the toughest skin Armad had ever faced.
How he did that was a mystery to Armad, but whenever he looked at him, he felt pure evil emanating from him and an unexplainable terror.
With the help of his Wilberforce eyes, he was able to see that the blood that ran through the veins of this villain wasn't purely normal.
His muscles, flesh, and blood held an evil secret beyond explanation.
The thickness of his flesh and skin looked like there was cultivation within.
But all his education from Wilberforce College and the one he had acquired at the third lower world screamed otherwise. He had never heard of anything like that.
No one, absolutely no one can pump cultivation through their body for that would be like giving it a chance to blow the body up. It was impossible.
A moment later, he decided that it probably wasn't cultivation running through his blood but that his blood was made that way.
He shook his head. He believed that finding out about the secret of his opponent would likely help him defeat him but then this was no time for that.
"Well, well, well.." Nura cheered up for him mockingly.
"You are truly a blood of Arion. The rumors going around about you being the weakest among his children are misinformed." He looked at him from head to toe as he spoke.
During his adventures around the world and the investigations he had personally gathered, He knew that the emperor had sons, with Ikenga as the crown Prince.
But he had also gathered that Ikenga was the one with the highest cultivation among the lineage. He was believed to be the greatest intellectual in the last two millennia. That coupled with the lineage he came from made him a fascinating figure among the princes.
When Armad was born, the Wilberforce family had rejoiced and cheered, thinking that they would have yet another wonder-cultivator child.
But they became disappointed when he came of age without any special traits. He was averagely gifted, neither dull nor a prodigy.
What irked Arion the most was that almost five kids born by his councilors were even more brilliant than him, and they eventually outrun him in matters of cultivation.
Armad became famous but all for the wrong reasons. He was popular as the weakest Prince of the empire.
Still, some were optimistic and didn't show any disrespect for Armad. They believed that it was Ikenga who was so endowed that he overshadowed the progress of Armad.
It is normal for people to look down on others when they are in the presence of a much more powerful person.
A professor at the college was once heard to make an analogy concerning the two brothers. He said it was like two girls from the same family, both of them beautiful. But one is more beautiful than the other and she overshadows the other when they walk side by side.
Many people shared the same views as the professor but it was obvious that he was also a fan of Ikenga.
But this wasn't what brought about the subsequent whispers concerning Armad. He was held in contempt almost everywhere he went because of an incident that happened just before Arion gave him his city.
It happened that there were more births after Armad which included girls from the royal wives. The children all showed more progress than Armad which highlighted the fact that it wasn't only Ikenga`s brilliance that was hampering him. His lack of intelligence had also been playing a role in making mere councilors' children outrun him in cultivation.
One of his siblings -a girl- had started following in the footsteps of Ikenga and only the law that made the two elder royal kids above the rest prevented her from having more power than Armad in the court.
The law stated that the first child, if a boy would become the crown Prince, and the second be given a town as a trial to see if he could develop it. If he could, it would then be his to rule.
These tales had traveled far and wide and it reached Bayajidda, where he heard that Armad was the weakest among all the royals.
So it was quite a surprise to witness how powerful the weakest Prince fought. He saw how the Prince took pills to heal himself but then they were three against him. Each of them was a genius in his own right, who accorded respect as Deva everywhere in the world. It doesn't make sense that this weak Prince could kill one of them. But he did. The two of them that remained couldn't defeat him as yet.
Had all the rumors been mere exaggerations? If he was this strong, then what about the others who were said to be twice his strength?
Nura shook his head as if to clear his mind. He wasn't after a response from Armad but he wouldn't mind hearing what he had to say.
