Chapter 20: Will to Fight

Chapter 20: Will to Fight

Head knight Keith gathered all the knights in the kingdom and prepared them for the upcoming battle. With Keith's leadership, the evacuation of the civilians has been smooth and steady and he made sure that no one would panic even though there's literally a giant hole above them.

The evacuation was only halfway through when the gang arrived. Minutes after arrival, everyone heard a loud screech inside the hole in the sky. It was so scary that everyone in the kingdom felt its vibration. It caused fear in everyone, some even lost consciousness. Shortly after, a swarm of inferior demons came out of the portal.

With Rein's quick thinking, she was able to cast a huge barrier made of water that enveloped the Kingdom, buying enough time for everyone to escape.

“E-everyone! Make it quick! The barrier won't hold that long!”

The demons were trying to penetrate her barrier, it was obvious that their goal was to cause mayhem and destruction in the kingdom.

As soon as everyone evacuated, Rein took the barrier down so that everyone could fight the demons properly.

“Everyone! It's time to protect the kingdom!” Keith shouted.

“For the kingdom!” The knights shouted in response.

The battle was intense, but it was one-sided. The knights were heavily outnumbered by the demons. The demons weren't that strong but their number makes up for it. Thankfully, the gang was to the rescue. Each of them showcased their unique powers and abilities.

Amalia, who we thought was a normal housewife, can use earth magic. She summoned a large number of golems that she could command at will. Miguel on the other hand was a swordsman who wields a huge sword, one swing of his weapon can cut a demon in half, even a building if he wants to. Keith also proved to everyone why he has the title of head knight. Each strike of his magic sword was clean and precise and every hit freezes his enemies. Astrid also didn't waste a single moment, she proved how practical and useful her extending sword is. Each swing took down a lot of demons at once. Rein also showed everyone her mastery of magic. She can cast spells simultaneously without getting exhausted. She attacks and defends at the same time proving how good she is with magic and finally, Komraad was so fast and strong that he already took down hundreds of demons just in a single minute.

Everyone was unique and interesting but no matter how powerful they were, the fight just never ended. Demons keep on coming out of the portal and every moment they stay, the harder it is for them to push forward and follow through the plan.

“We can't stay and fight here forever, we'll lose strength before we can even enter the palace!” Keith shouted.

Everyone thought the same but no matter what they do, the number of demons just keeps on increasing. All hopes were lost. They were starting to feel the toll on their body when a miracle no one had ever expected happened.

Out of nowhere a part of the wall was destroyed and something appeared out of it.

A giant turtle entered the kingdom carrying tons of adventurers and witches. It was Nessie and Stephany's gang to the rescue.

“Fae! We received your call! We're here to help!” Stephany shouted while making a grand entrance.

Everyone was confused but was glad that backup arrived. Fae was the only one aware of what was currently happening.

The reason why Fae didn't leave her room was that she'd been contacting Stephany using the relic she had given us before. Thankfully, during that time, Stephany's gang was on the Witch's Isle. After Fae explained the situation to them, Stephany rushed towards the kingdom to help, and the witches also volunteered to come so they could repay us. A week of travel was shortened to hours because of Nessie's huge body and now they're here to tip the balance off.

“Everyone, go ahead already! Leave these demons to us!” Stephany shouted.

“Thank you, everyone,” Fae responded.

Stephany, Nessie, the adventurers, and the witches took over and helped the knights fend off the demons. Amalia and Miguel also stayed to help.

Komraad, Keith, and the girls left the scene and entered the palace. In front of the gate was May who was waiting for the girls to arrive. May wasn't wearing her maid outfit, instead, she was covered in armor and was holding a huge shield.

“Girls follow me! I know where they're keeping the princess,” May relayed. The girls followed May on the other side of the palace while Komraad and Keith went to the throne room to defeat the perpetrators and destroy the source of the portal at the same time.

Keith and Komraad were still in the corridor when they saw someone waiting for them. It was the demon that Komraad fought before.

“Hey Keith, you go first. This one's mine,” Komraad said with a serious tone. He has unfinished business with this demon and he wants to end it with his own hands.

“Be careful,” Keith replied. He proceeded to the throne room where the portal and the prince were staying. The demon didn't stop him because his target was also Komraad.

“Hey, ass! You lookin' for a rematch?” Komraad taunted the demon.

“Ha-ha Ha-ha!” The demon laughed and started acting seriously afterward.

“You're the reason why I embarrassed myself in front of his highness! You're gonna pay for it!” The demon declared.

“It's not my fault you're weak!" Komraad replied to make the demon angrier. Without any hesitation, Komraad removed the bracelets he was wearing to release his full capabilities.

“Getting serious from the get-go, I see. Well, I guess I gotta get serious myself,” the demon responded.

Komraad was the first to attack. He used his sharp claws to slash the demon. He thought his attack landed but it was an afterimage.

Komraad noticed it was an illusion.

“Coward!” He shouted.

The demon's laugh echoed throughout the corridor and started explaining his ability.

“My name is Mizzari and that is my specialty, I'm a master of illusion. You'll die before you even find my real body.” He created copies of himself to confuse Komraad and attacked him in his blind spots. Komraad was struggling to identify his real body.

After taking a lot of damage, Komraad started getting tired, and not only that, if the fight keeps on going, he'll go berserk again.

“I have to finish this quickly,” Komraad thought. He closed his eyes and focused solely on detecting the real body.

“Come on Komraad, being a hunter is in your blood. Stop thinking and let your senses take over.”

Mizzari was about to finish him. Thankfully, Komraad was able to locate him before it happened.

“Found you!” Komraad smirked and jumped as high as he could. The real body was above him all along. He grabbed Mizzari and smashed him on the ground leaving him unconscious.

“How unlucky of you. I'm the complete counter to your ability.” After defeating the enemy, Komraad Immediately puts his bracelets back before he goes berserk again.

May and the girls on the other hand were running as fast as they could to rescue the princess.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“Miss? How did you know where they're keeping her?” Astrid asked out of curiosity.

“I found out where they hid her. The thing is, the queen asked me to be Princess Raya’s personal maid. My job is to protect her and be by her side no matter what but when the king and queen passed away, everything changed. I tried saving the princess and getting her out of there but my voice isn't reaching her at all. My only remaining hope is you girls. Please save her before it's too late.” May was begging the girls. She really cares for the princess.

“You got it, Ms. May,” Fae said to ease her mind a little.

May felt like she could rely on these girls and she believes that they'll be able to bring the princess back to her senses.

“We're near the room where they're keeping her, it's just beyond that door.”

They were about to enter the door when Saro, the demon that snatched the princess appeared and attacked them.

May and the girls were fast to react and were able to dodge it.

“No one’s going anywhere, not on my watch,” Saro said menacingly.

“This is bad, if we don't reach the princess now then she'll forever drown in the darkness, " May said worriedly.

“Don't worry, we'll finish this demon before that happens, " Rein said with a serious tone.

“No, you must proceed now. I'll stay here and make an opening for you girls,” May suggested.

“But how about you Ms. May?” Fae asked worriedly.

“Don't worry about me, I also have a score to settle with this demon so please just focus on saving the princess.”

The girls agreed.

“Oh, what are you people whispering about? Let me join in the fun!” Saro teleported behind them to attack. May was already familiar with the demon's power that's why she was able to defend with her shield.

Using the size of her shield, she was able to obscure Saro’s vision. Before she could even see what they were up to, the girls were already able to pass through the door. Saro was late to notice. She was gonna teleport away and stop the girls but May didn't allow her to.

[Ultimate Defense Magic: Unbreakable Prison.]

May used her most powerful spell and trapped the demon in a cage. Saro tried teleporting away but no matter what she did, she couldn't get out.

“You're staying here with me," May declared.

“Oh well, guess I gotta play with you first, " Saro replied with a childlike attitude.

As soon as the girls entered the room, they were met with nothing but darkness. The room is like a whole new dimension and in the middle of it is the princess being enveloped slowly by the darkness.

“Princess! We're here to save you!” The girls shouted.

“No, go away! I don't deserve to be saved. Because of me... because of me, all of you lost someone important to you. It was all my fault. If only I didn't meet Ms. Ina, all of this would have been prevented.”

The princess's voice was echoing throughout the room. You can feel the guilt and sadness in her voice. The girls wanted to get closer to the princess so they could properly talk to her but demons suddenly appeared and attacked them.

“Fae! Go ahead and talk things out with the princess, Astrid and I will protect you,” Rein instructed.

“Got it, big sis!” Fae responded. She rushed towards the princess to try and save her. The demons were targeting her but Astrid and Rein were protecting her with everything they've got.

Fae managed to get closer but the princess was already on the verge of losing herself. She held the princess's hands and started saying comforting words.

“Princess, please don't blame yourself. Ms. Ina's death was not your fault. Helping you was her choice and we supported it. Ms. Ina won't just stand and do nothing when a girl is crying in front of her and asking for help. She did that to all of us, she found us and gave us home. She wanted to do the same for you because she's the kindest and warmest person there is so please stop being hard on yourself. Your heart was on the right so don't ever regret meeting Ms. Ina, meeting us! Ms. Ina wants us to push forward even though she's gone. She wants us to find happiness and courage in ourselves, I realize that now so please princess, let's choose to live, for Ms. Ina's sake,” Fae said genuinely.

Even after saying all those words, the princess didn't respond at all. The girls thought that it was already too late because the princess was completely engulfed by the darkness but Fae didn't give up.

“Princess, for once in your life, be honest with yourself! What is it that you wanna do? Tell us!” Fae said for the last time hoping that it'll reach the princess.

It took a while but finally! A glimmer of hope appeared as light started emanating from the princess. Fae's last attempt didn't go to waste, her voice finally reached her.

“I... I wanna save the kingdom and my brother. I want to see the world and meet new people and have lots of adventures with all of you! I wanna be free!” The princess responded to Fae while she slowly emerged out of the darkness that was engulfing her.

All the darkness in the room slowly disappeared alongside the demons Rein and Astrid was fighting.

Princess Raya finally emerged as a new person. Wings sprouted behind her back indicating that she awakened the blood she inherited from her father.

“Welcome back princess, " the girls said while hugging her tightly.

“Thank you for believing in me,” the princess replied.

“They were having their moment when they heard someone clapping. It was Saro watching them from afar.

*Clap* *Clap*

“Wow, Didn't think you'd pull this off. Sorry to ruin the fun but I gotta take you back princess. His Highness would need you more than ever now that you've awakened your dormant powers.”

“Oh no, what is she doing here? Are you telling me Ms. May lost?” Astrid thought to herself.

“Everyone, prepare to fight back,” Rein commanded. They were already exhausted from all the previous fights but for them to escape, they'll have to fight again.

“Princess, get behind us. We'll protect you,” Astrid said.

“No, I'm done hiding. It took me a while but I finally have the will to fight back and take my freedom for myself!” The princess said with so much confidence and determination.

“Rebelling now, aren't we?” Saro jokingly asked. She then teleported behind them to snatch the princess away but Rein managed to stop her by covering themselves in a barrier.

“Tch…how irritating,” Saro muttered.

Without any hesitation. The princess held her hands together and started casting powerful magic. Awakening her heritage from her father boosted her clairvoyant powers and not only that, she can now also use featherlight magic.

[Ultimate Magic: Garden of Eden.]

Light in the form of a garden enveloped not only the room they were in but also the entire kingdom. Everyone in the vicinity was affected by her magic. Everyone that she deemed her allies got their strength boosted significantly and all the fatigue in their body was completely gone while all the demons around got significantly weaker.

“W-what is this magic?” Saro was surprised because she felt her energy leaving her body after the princess used her magic.

“Whao, your magic is super amazing princess! I don't feel tired anymore! I also feel stronger than before!” Astrid noticed.

“Yeah, me too. We can do this! We can win!” Rein added.

Saro knew that this was a fight she couldn't win anymore so instead, she teleported away to escape. "I didn't sign up for this, guess it's time to run," Saro muttered for the last time.

“That coward! All talk! Let’s chase her!” Astrid shouted aggressively.

“Let's forget her. She's not a threat to us anymore. For now, let's focus on escaping here,” Rein suggested. Everyone agreed. On their way out, they saw May who was injured in the previous battle, and reunited with her. They rushed outside as fast as they could to try and help the others. All that's left now is for Keith to save the prince and destroy the source of the portal.

Before reaching the throne room, Keith felt Princess Raya’s magic.

“This magic… I can feel the princess's feelings mixed with it. Thank goodness, it looks like they were successful in saving her,” he thought to himself and was very happy with the good news.

“I guess I gotta do my part too,” he added.

Keith finally reached his destination. As soon as he opened the door, he saw the prince sitting on the throne, and behind him was the portal's energy source.

Keith stood in front of the prince filled with anger and hatred towards the demon.

“So you've finally decided to take action head knight, took you long enough," the demon said to taunt him.

Keith was calm and collected even though all he wanted to do right now was to rip the demon apart.

“I'm here to take Zion back and destroy the portal,” Keith said with so much confidence and determination.

“Oho… what made you think you can do it now? After all those years of doing nothing and just watching your kingdom fall into despair,” the demon taunted.

“I was scared and alone before, but now I found strong allies who helped me come this far,” Keith responded confidently.

“Strong allies? Don't make me laugh. I already killed the only one who could've stopped my plan!”

Keith was triggered by what the demon said and he finally snapped. “I won't let Ms. Ina's sacrifice be in vain. Your reign ends right here!”

“Let's see you try!” The demon said menacingly.

Keith took his sword out but hesitated to attack.

“What's wrong now? Are you afraid you'll hurt his body?”The demon asked to provoke him.

Keith didn't let the demon's words get to him.

“Wait for me Zion,” he thought to himself.

He was as calm and cold as ice. He knows how powerful the demon was that's why he decided to get serious from the get-go. Keith used his most powerful spell to end the battle as fast as he could.

[Ultimate Magic Sword Technique: Zero Domain.]

The floor instantly froze and Keith's sword changed form. It became thinner and longer. The demon was surprised because his movements became slower.

Keith attacked and the demon dodged it but even though it didn't hit, a part of the demon's body still froze.

“Wow, this might actually be a challenge for me," the demon muttered to himself.

Keith attacked simultaneously and the demon just kept on dodging. Keith got irritated because the wasn't even fighting back.

“Stop underestimating me!” Keith shouted.

Keith distanced himself and created ice spikes from the ground. The demon wanted to dodge but his feet got frozen and got stuck on the ground.

“Oh my, what a hassle.” The demon used magic for the first time during their fight and stopped the ice spikes from reaching him. While the demon was being distracted, Keith created an Ice clone of himself and sent it to destroy the portal's energy source. The demon thought it was the real Keith so he attacked it but was surprised at the end because it was a decoy. It was a nice diversion for Keith. He sneaked in so he could finally separate the demon from the prince using the ace up his sleeve.

“Got you!” Keith put the relic on the prince's chest and it started glowing. The demon inside the prince panicked.

Keith and the demon thought it worked but the relic suddenly stopped functioning.

“Ha-ha, that got me scared for a second. It seems like you're already out of mana.”

The relic requires a lot of mana to use and Keith didn't meet the required amount that's why it didn't work.

“N-no, it can't be.” Keith was down on his knees. He's completely drained from using a lot of spells and is very exhausted.

“I applaud you for having a good plan but I'm utterly disappointed. I'm done playing with you.” The prince covered Keith in darkness making him unable to move.

“Why leave me immobile when you can easily finish me!?!”

The prince approached Keith and answered his question.

“I can't kill you yet, not until you and the princess taste overwhelming despair,” the demon answered while smiling menacingly.

“You demon! You really are rotten to the very core!” Keith shouted.

Keith noticed that the prince was leaving the room. “Where the hell do you think you're going?!?” He asked.

“I'm about to kill three precious kittens. I wonder what face the princess would make after I kill those girls,” The demon thought menacingly.

Keith got worried because he knew that the demon was referring to Fae, Rein, and Astrid.

“No! Come back here! Our fight isn't over yet!” Keith shouted to try and get the demon's attention.

The demon ignored him and left the throne room laughing, ready to cause more despair for everyone.
