"What are we waiting for?"
"I'm pretty sure the root of all the problems is about to appear."
Kom grins and pulls out his axe,
"I've been wanting to pound this thing for a while!"
He grips his axe and gets ready to attack, but no sign of the Bilby can be seen.
That is, until the rumbling sound comes back.
I sharpen my senses, and realize what's going on.
"Above you!"
All three of us look up and a blur crosses our vision, but instantly vanishes, leaving a massive hole in the ground. We look downwards and see a newly made tunnel, three feet in diameter, with solid rock crumbling and falling into the depths.
Without time to react, the rumbling sound comes back, but this time, at a different angle.
"Scatter!"
All three of us ran in different directions, with the Bilby once again creating a massive hole in the ground, right where we were just standing.
I ready my pistol and wait for it to come back, but as it attacks, it was too quick for me to see and all I could do was barely dodge the attack.
Only 2%?!
We'll get nowhere with this speed of analyzation.
We have to stop or at least slow down the Bilby in its tracks, but I can only hear it coming, not where its coming from. Dodging its attacks is just reaction time, but there is not enough time to trap the Bilby in place.
As long as I can figure out where its coming from, I should be able to set up a trap in time.
Now how do I go about doing that?
I begin thinking as I dodge the Bilby's attacks. It seems to be random, its attack pattern, as I randomly choses one of us to attack, but shouldn't there be something systematic about it?
My guess is that whoever is closet to it, it will attack. I run across the cave jumping over the many tunnels created in the ground using platforms(thanks [FMC]) until I reach a wall.
Ranko and Kom both followed in suite, with Ranko going to the opposite wall and Kom standing in the middle of the cavern.
Sure enough, the Bilby attacks Kom once, then again, and then again. Kom was able to parry the Bilby every time, and the Bilby gets deflected, creating holes surrounding the sole platform Kom was standing on. Soon enough, Kom was standing on an isolated island in the middle of the cavern fending off the boss himself, but this gave me important information regarding its attack pattern.
Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
The last part missing is how to track the actual Bilby.
"Any of you able to locate it?"
"Nope"
"I-I can't"
Slightly disappointed, I go back to thinking, but rumbles started happening beneath the ground.
"Beneath you!"
The Bilby shoots out of a tunnel and with its legs out front, and launches towards Ranko, but she spreads her wings out and flies out of its reach.
It seems that Ranko can also analyze the boss, but still, trapping this creature is our best bet, and I don't want to put her in harms way.
Another rumbling started, almost like an earthquake was about to happen. The ground split again, this time attacking Kom.
"This thing is so slippery man! I can't catch it!"
I hear Kom exclaim gleefully,
It seemed that he wanted to catch the animal and beat it for all the harm it did, but he had not a trace of fear on his face.
The ground was beginning to look like Swiss cheese, with holes scattered everywhere, and we were running out of time.
I have already been jumping around for two minutes and still yet to come up with an idea.
"Hey, uh..I think we need to do something!"
Kom yells across the cave.
Ranko also seems to be fine, perhaps a bit tired from all the running and jumping.
"Just hold out for a bit longer! I'll think of something!"
I think back to the beginning of the battle and remember what happened over these last couple of minutes and what patterns there were.
Well, whenever the Bilby attacks it creates this loud shaking sound throughout the cavern.
If we can use the sound it makes to track it...
The perfect opportunity.
If you don't know, scientists use seismometers set up across an area to figure out where the earthquake was coming from. In basic terms, they have three of those machines, and each one detects earthquake waves. After this, scientists compare these waves to other machines and figure out where they intersect. This way, they can find the epicenter of the earthquake.
Same concept here, except with sound.
By positioning us three in a triangular shape, we should be able to tell where the sound is coming a from, with a process known as sound triangulation.
I instruct the other two to go to certain places and we soon created a triangular formation in the cave.
"When you guys hear it, tell me the general direction!"
They both nod their heads and we all stand silently. I hear a rumbling sound come and Kom shouts,
"Northwest!"
"N-Northeast!"
I quickly draw an imaginary line from Kom and Ranko to the direction they say and wait for the sound. I finally hear it, and after imagining the three lines, I pinpoint the general place where the Bilby comes from. It was closet to Kom, who was at my bottom right, so I quickly ran there preparing for the trap.
I have already told [FMC] to set up the build, and after I see the anchor points appear, I fill it in. It was a large cotton net, and right when the Bilby jumps from the ceiling, it gets caught in the net, just centimeters above the ground. With the Bilby stuck in the cotton net, I could analyze most of its body, but we didn't have much time, as the build will soon disappear.
Unable to do any real damage, I run around the Bilby examining every part of its body, and the analyzation meter finally shot up.
The last part I could not see were the bottom of its legs, but with the net blocking the view and the small space we have, I could not trap the Bilby for any longer. I tell Kom to retreat, and we back off just as the net disappears along with the Bilby.
With only the legs left, the easiest way is to wait for it to attack me, so I quickly centered myself in the middle of the cave and waited for the attack. I could feel the Bilby come towards me, and right when it lunged out,
with Ranko swooping in, grabbing and carrying me on her back flying out of the danger.
