DECORATING SAFELY
Tuesday hovered over the conference table and finished pinning the hand-crafted banner that spelled out “SAFETY”; each letter sharpied onto a craft paper orange cone. “We can dance if we want to. We can leave your friends behind…” she sang to herself.
Around the room yellow tape exclaiming “CAUTION” draped along walls and more paper cones hung from threads pinned to the ceiling. In front of each of the 5 chairs was a placement of a yellow and black paper plate, plastic silverware, a smartly folded orange napkin in the shape of a cone, and the pride of Tuesday’s party favors; a yellow hard hat custom ordered with each of their names.
“…Well, they’re no friends of mine.”
She floated back to the ground and made one final adjustment to the diamond “PARTY ZONE AHEAD” sign and closed the conference room door behind her.

“Tuesday,” a voice said behind Tuesday.
“Jeez! I didn’t see you, Friday. I thought Thursday was the sneaky one.”
“I was literally standing here just outside the door for–” He considered his internal atomic clock, “47 seconds.”
“Why?”
“I heard you singing.”
Tuesday’s cheeks reddened.
“Well, I was actually looking for you. I had a question.”
“I don’t know where Monday is.”
“That’s not what I was going to ask. I was wondering if you’ve ever seen anything that officially says Wednesday is my supervisor.”
“Like and org-chart?”
Friday queried the term. “Yeah, is there an organization chart anywhere?”
“Not that I’ve seen.”
“But you’re Wednesday’s supervisor?”
Tuesday smiled. “Never put off till tomorrow what can be done today.”
“I don’t know what that means.”
“It means that I don’t push off work to Wednesday.”
“Can you get him off my back?”
“Talk to Monday.”
“I don’t know where he is.”
“I don’t either. Have a good afternoon,” she said and walked away.
