Nothing Here but Hot Air
An Ode for the Canterbury Roads

An Ode for the Canterbury Roads

I may travel far and wide

along this wonky road,

but there’s one place I’ll return to,

and to it I owe an ode.

Maybe you’re on the high trail,

or maybe on the low.

Perhaps you’re feeling lost,

and don’t know where to go.

Perhaps you like to surf?

Well she’s right beside the sea,

But if you’re bored of that by lunch,

well it’s not too far to ski.

There’s canyoning nearby,

and climbing in the hills.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

The sun lights up bike pathways,

where you’ll find more thrills.

If it’s wine you’d like to test

beneath a summer willow,

Waipara has been making the best,

since a long long time ago.

and maybe if you’re lucky,

in the winter you’ll get snow.

She’s a place of all the seasons,

one you really ought to know.

Her roads are extra fun,

just like a roller-coaster.

Perhaps that’s the only one

I shouldn’t put on a poster.

I’ve been here several years now,

and whilst I like to roam,

when I’m in between things

here’s to the place I call home.
