In 1999 the Earth space colony Terra Venture crashed landed on the planet Mirinoi, becoming the first Earth colony to settle on a new planet. Eight years later, in 2007, the Terran humans and native Mirinites are living peacefully. A Terran scientist accidently discovered a power source located on a remote continent that runs longer and cleaner than any fossil fuel found on Earth. The activity of mining for the resource, phenomenum, has awakened something that was there long before humans appeared on the planet. Crylocks, crystalline beings whose consciousness also existed on a digital plane of existence, were once banished to the planet. They want to use the phenomenum to conquer the humans, leave the planet, and continue spreading throughout the universe.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Galactic Research had been established not long after the landing by the High Council of Terra Venture. Its purpose was to study their new planet and their surrounds. Or so it was said publicly. The Bureau's true objective was to study and replicate the power of the Quasar Rangers and create their own Morph technology. The project was called Morph-X.
One day, these two separate projects intersected. The Crylocks sent their analog avatars to obtain the Phenomenum and gain control of the human colony. With no warning, there was no time for the former Quasar Rangers to retrieve the Quasar Sabres. The Morph-X Project was still untested, but a young assistant scientist had to make quick decisions. She trusted the three completed Morphers to a Terra Venture Security Agent, a high school girl who'd been interning in operations, and an alien who'd come to warn the people of Terra Venture about the danger the Crylocks posed, even though he was too late.
Though her actions were unsanctioned, the project went forward. Eventually, four more Rangers were added to combat the problem of the Crylocks. When it seemed that Crylocks had been defeated, they learned how very wrong they were. Crylocks from the edges of the galaxy came for Mininoi and the Phenonum. The Rangers were unprepared for the more advanced Crylock forces. Needing a power boost, the Rangers went to find the Quasar Sabers only to discover they'd disappeared from where they'd been held.

After tracking down the Sabers, that had been scattered across the planet, the Rangers continued to defend the planet, eventually putting an end to the threat the Crylocks posed once and for all.
