Las Luces, California 2001
East Las Luces was once a peaceful, developing suburb. But at the end of Calabria Street, development stopped, and the wilderness had free reign. Within that wilderness was a spaceship that crash-landed months ago ahead of an alien invading force known as the Thrombian Regime. The Promethenon had been piloted by a single teenaged warrior from the planet Promethias. Ryden came to Earth in search of what he hoped would be the key to defeating the enemy and freeing his now conquered planet.
The Heir.
A baby sent away by the King as an infant. Ryden was never sure why the Heir needed to be sent away, or why it needed protecting. The king had other, older children, several of them. What made the Heir special was a mystery, but he'd been tasked with finding this lost child. The quest had led him to Earth. Unfortunately, it also led the Thrombians to Earth as well.
The Guardian, the man who'd been tasked with the protection of the Heir, was called Kyser. On Earth he went by Kyser Albreicht. Along with the Heir, Kyser had also brought with him his own grandson, Quenton. Quenton was also tasked with the protection of the Heir. Neither would reveal the Heir's identity to Ryden.
Upon crashing into a foothill, Ryden was forced to recruit Quenton and three Earthlings to help him hide where the Promethenon landed and protect the Heir. They became the Guardian Power Rangers.
It was an uneasy alliance at first. Ryden and Quenton didn't really get along well. He also didn't trust the inexperienced youths they'd recruited.
Marcy Sharpe was a blonde girl with a serene, friendly personality. She had no fighting expereince at all, but Ryden found her to be a hardworking girl, and a quick learner. She often found the humor when things were tense.
Simon Creed was full of surprises. He was tall and thin, with freckles and hair that didn't know what color it wanted to be among red, brown, or blond. He was a bit of wizkid. Not only was he multi-talented musically, he also was a karate champion, and a bit of a technical nerd. Between he and General Kyser, the repairs to the Promethenon's damaged systems were coming along well.
Selena Vega was a bit of a mystery. An introverted dark-haired girl with surprising talent. She'd surprised basically everyone when it was revealed that her ex-Marine father had trained her in self-defense and survival skills. She also had a quick wit and a dry sense of humor that at times verged on snarky.
Quen and the three Earthlings attended East Las Luces High School, a special school for the arts. Simon Creed, through a hacker called Code Blue, had managed to get Ryden papers that allowed him to have an Earth identity. He'd been resistant to being forced to integrate into Earth society. Quen had made the argument that he needed to learn about Earth and why it was just as important to protect it as it was to protect Promethias.
Ryden, known in school as Ryden Ecks, had slowly found new skills, new friends, almost a new home. He really did hate it when Quen was right about things.
After all this time, the group was working as a team. Ryden had been teaching the others about Promethias and training them in the rhythmic, dance-like martial arts favored by the Promethian military. In return he integrated into their lives.
Still in the back of his mind, he knew his duty should be to free Promethias as soon as possible. But the Thrombian Regime was strong, and the battleground was Earth. He'd protect both and the Heir.
He hadn't heard anything about his home world since he crash-landed on Earth. He looked up at the stars one night, wondering if one of the bright dots of light he could see was his home. He'd already made up his mind, however, that he would continue to protect the Heir, whether or not he or she chose to remain on Earth or Promethias.
A streak of light fell across the night sky. He didn't think anything of it, but an alarm went off behind him. He'd been sitting on an open hatch of the Promethenon where he lived. "What's going on, Pandora?" he asked, getting to his feet.
An ethereal hologram appeared as he closed the hatch behind him. "I've detected a Promethian distress signal," she said.
He hurried through the ship to the command deck. "Are you sure?" he demanded.
"Affirmative. It was intermittent as it came into the atmosphere, but now the signal is strong and steady," Pandora answered.
He sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "If we're reading the signal this well, so are the Thrombians," he said.
"It could be a trap," Pandora said. "I will contact the others," she said.
He nodded.
They didn't live far away, and if they summoned their Lightspeed Cycles, they'd be there soon. He just hoped it'd be soon enough. He couldn't stand around and wait. "Send them to the beacon. I'm going ahead first," he said.

"You should wait for the others," she scolded him even as he disappeared from the command deck. It was too late; he was already on his way.

Thrombian Home Dome
Emperor Zukat was the ruler of the Thrombian regime. They were a ruthless race of monsters that conquered whatever world captured their fancy. The regime hadn't been in this part of the galaxy until recently when it set its sights on Promethias and then followed the escaping Promethenon to Earth. Zukat also wanted the power of the Heir, whatever it may be. He'd take Earth as well.
He was informed by his ancient looking advisor, Yorgaz, about a Promethian vessel entering Earth's atmosphere. He growled. "How did this happen?" he demanded, clenching his fists. "Trilan!" he shouted.
The highest female officer of the Regime's military stepped forward and bowed to him. She was tall, dressed in black, with sharp eyes, and hair covered by an elaborate headdress. She bowed. "Yes, my liege?" she said respectfully. Despite the fact that the military was made mostly of women, females were rarely promoted to her rank. Her male colleagues often disregarded and belittled her. The Emperor himself rarely gave her any important tasks. She was finally going to get her chance.
"Take a lieutenant and a squadron of battlewings to recover the escaped vessel," Zukat ordered.
Feeling the jealous gaze of her male colleagues, Trilan smirked. "As you command, my liege," she said, bowing out. She turned, a cape flapping behind her.
"Yorgaz! Find my son!" the emperor commanded.

Ryden sped along on his red splashed motorcycle, listening to directions given to him by Pandora. Before long, he was informed that Kyser had joined her on the Promethenon and the others weren't far behind him. He was going deeper and deeper into the foothills, and the trails that he was traversing were beginning to become non-existent.
"Battlewings on approach!" Pandora warned him suddenly.
Ryden glanced skyward. He saw the reddish points of light that were most definitely Thrombian battlewings. Maybe it wasn't a trap after all. He activated NitroMode on his cycled. An energy sheild formed in front of the Cycle and his speed picked up. The shield protected him from the G-forces of his speed as he attempted to reach the Promethian signal before the Thrombians.
"Coming up behind," a voice said through his helmet's communication system. It was Quen. A black splashed Cycle, came up behind his, followed by a pink splashed Cycle, a yellow splashed Cycle, with the blue splashed Cycle covering the rear. They must have engaged NitroMode sooner in order to catch up with him.
"It's a race," Ryden declared. He pointed toward the sky. The red lights were closer.
"We saw 'em," Quen said grimly.
"Too bad for them, I got a need for speed!" Simon said. He popped a wheelie and sped past the pink and yellow cycles.
"Simon!" Selena and Marcy scolded him at the same time. They were going too fast for these shenanigans. He didn't seem to mind.
Suddenly, they were fired on from overhead. The Nitro-shielding absorbed some of the impact, but it was a wake-up call.
"We'll make a stand here," Ryden suddenly declared. He came to a stop so abruptly that his Cycle stood on its front tire, but he spun around and stopped as his back tired landed. The other four Cycles stopped as well. "Let's light it up!" he declared. They tapped on slim metallic bracelets, and they transformed into the shield shaped devices.
Selena held hers up in front of her heart with her hand fisted. She clamped her hand down on the shield, activating her morph sequence and proclaiming, "The Fifth Guardian! Pink!" A bright pink light shone from the shield and enveloped her body, forming her power suit, helmet and side arm. The Pink Lighter turned back into a bracelet around her wrist while the shield insignia was transported to her chest. Her power suite was pink and black. The visor of her helmet was narrow with a place above it that resembled a third eye.
Simon held his Blue Lighter up in front of him with his hand fisted. He clamped his other hand over the shield. "The Fourth Guardian! Blue!"
Marcy held up the Yellow Lighter with her hand fisted. She pushed down the shield symbol. "The Third Guardian! Yellow!"
From each of them came a bright yellow or blue light that enveloped their bodies, forming their power suits, helmets and side arms. Yellow's narrow visor had a circle above it while Blue's angular visor had a diamond above it.
Quen held his fisted arm over his heart and clamped his hand over the shield. "The Second Guardian! Black!" A bright purplish light shone from the shield and enveloped his whole body and formed his power suit, side arm and helmet. His black helmet's visor consisted of rectangles. The shield transferred to his chest before the Black Lighter shrank back into a bracelet.
Ryden held his fisted hand over his heart and clamped down on the shield. "The First Guardian! Red!" Bright red light shone from the shield and enveloped his body forming his power suit, helmet and side arm. His slim visor had a V shape above it. The shield transferred to his chest before the Red Lighter shrunk back down to a bracelet.
"Magnum Laser!" They drew their sidearms and pointed toward the sky. They fired on the red specks. Most of them hit home, but one battlewing kept going. "I'll handle it, catch up to me," Red Guardian said.
He twisted his handlebars and began riding for the signal again, leaving the other four to deal with whatever came out of the disabled battlewings. They aimed their Cycles and sped in a different direction.
Footmen and a Thrombian Lieutenent in her human form emerged from the wreckage of the downed battlewings as the four Rangers arrived.
