Chapter 3:Family

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the darkness of the night ran an exhausted lone ninja carrying a bundle of furs, but wrapped underneath those furs was a little girl. The ninja was being pursued by unknown entities. He did not know who was chasing him but he knew why he was being pursued.

“They obviously want this girl but why?” asked the ninja to himself

He did not know whose child this was. He was simply repaying a favor to an old friend of his who had at one point saved his life.

The little girl who could be no older than two was strangely silent. It was as if she knew she was being hunted.

Damn it I can’t keep going, if only I was 20 years younger thought the ninja.

I could probably lose em if I left the little girl

I know there’s a village somewhere in this jungle thought the man as he hid the girl in some bushes.

“If you’re lucky someone will find you, I’ll try my best to divert their attention towards me”

The ninja looked the girl in the eyes and he felt guilty.

She looked at him as if saying “its OK you tried your best.”

I hope she gets picked up by a nice elderly couple prayed the man to every god he knew.

Sadly the man’s prayer went unfulfilled as gods rarely answer to prayers.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In his youth Thomas Jackson the fourth was the equivalent of a modern day bad boy. Tall and good-looking coupled with a wild aura; he never spent a night alone.

He travelled the world for a while then he grew bored and wanted to return home. However on his journey home one of the many women he had been with him simply came up to him with a two year old baby proclaiming it to be his. Despite his bad boy appearance Thomas was a nice guy perhaps too nice. The woman simply said she was getting married to another man then left the child with him.

Thomas was confused. He thought about what to do but in the end he could not part with the babe so he went to a tavern.

When he entered he saw a barmaid holding a young babe who was playing with the barmaid’s breasts. He had also slept with this barmaid nine months ago

When their gazes met the barmaid simply walked up to him and said

“This one’s yours; I have more than enough already”

Thomas was dumbfounded while he was led out the tavern by the barmaid.

In the middle of the street stood Thomas holding two babies, one was oddly quiet while the other one was crying longing for his mother’s breasts.

In the end he took both children home.

So he named the eldest one after himself as was the tradition of the house. Thomas sometimes doubted that junior was his son.

All men of the house freestone are rash and impulsive. Once they go past a certain limit they no longer listen to reason and let anger control them.

Yet junior was stern, pompous and rarely showed emotion on his face. Junior knew his mother was only a commoner but that made him try even harder to be what he perceived to be the perfect noble.

Thomas owned slaves yet he never treated them as such but junior would always remind the slaves that they were in fact slaves. Thus junior was dislike by many .Especially Lilith as she hated to be reminded that she was the child of a slave. Thus those two were always at odds with each other.

Yet junior barely even respected his father. There was only one person he respected, His step mother and Edin’s mother lady madelynne .She was the very definition of class. She was the only one in the house to use manners and treat the maids as maids rather than family members. Junior always attempted to emulate her.

One day junior was curious so he asked his step mother where she had learnt to be such a great member of the upper class. She had told him about an academy that specialized in raising exemplary members of nobility.

Thus junior begged his father to be sent to this academy. His wish was fulfilled as his father had difficulty raising him he figured junior would become a proper man at this academy.

Herbert his second eldest also had someone he greatly respected. Thomas’s father and Herbert’s grandfather Thomas freestone the third who Herbert revered as master.

Herbert had a rare talent. He was gifted in magic. Rather than gifted he was a genius who could easily become a sorcerer.

Sadly such talent was wasted on Herbert as he had only one interest.

Girls

In Herbert’s words he was not interested in girls but rather woman.

Thomas sometimes wondered if both these children were really his.

On one of his business trips Thomas met lady Madelynne second daughter of the house Dragkagua.

Coincidently lady Madelynne was in her rebellious phase and once she saw the wild looking Thomas she was hooked.

So they eloped. Thus Edin was born.

This time Thomas knew for sure that this boy was his son thus he wanted him named after himself. Sadly his wife did not agree.

Thomas had a strained relationship with his wife. She was for all intents and purposes a city girl. She could not live in the jungle. She had a great fear of the jungle. So much that even when her son Edin would play in the yard only if there were several villagers forming a perimeter around the yard. She truly detested Hawk’s nest.

Thomas pondered what type of man Edin would grow up to be. Whenever he was busy working in his study, Edin would always be there either attempting to read his father’s books or playing with his toy soldiers.

Thomas was walking in the jungle heading home to celebrate Edin’s fourth birthday. He didn't have a present yet which was why he was simply searching for something,

That in itself was strange. The people of this world celebrated birthdays every five years. They felt it was necessary as children would die early and having less memories of them would hurt less. Thomas however thought otherwise he celebrated his children’s birthdays yearly as he felt it was better to create as much memories as possible.

While Thomas was walking he heard a wail. He searched for the origin of the sound where he came upon a baby girl hidden in some bushes.

Was she abandoned here poor little girl thought Thomas

She doesn't seem to be one of the villagers.

The villagers greatly resembled the people of India. Black hair, brown skin were some of the more prominent features.

However this little girl was undoubtedly of Yamato(Japanese) descent.

Thomas looked for any signs of the little girl’s parent yet none could be found. It was as if someone removed their traces.

Thomas found it strange, he was a hunter so he could track animals yet no visible signs could be found. There were zero broken branches.

Thomas smiled

He had found a great present

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today was my fourth birthday. I celebrated with my family and friends. Yet father was not here. He had left early in the morning which I assume was to get my present. I didn't receive any presents as apparently yearly birthday celebrations are strange. We simply enjoyed a nice dinner with cake.

Then father walked in with the biggest smug face id ever seen. In his arms was a two year old baby.

“Happy birthday Edin!!!!!!”

“Your present  is a little sister!”

The room grew quiet.

“You had another child!!!!”Screamed everyone in the dining room

“No I found her in the jungle”

“You kidnapped her!?”

“Papas a kidnapper.”

“No I’m not, she was abandoned!”

“See you can tell she’s from Yamato”

Yamato as in this world’s equivalent of japan

“what’s her name.”

“I dunno.”

“well shes gotta have a yamato name”

“um I've got nothing”

“What about sue?” I ask

“That’s nice”

“welcome home sue Freestone.”
