Chapter 1 - Prologue

In the morning, a boy woke up. Surrounded by plants in every corner of the room, a smile bloomed on the boy's face.

"Good morning guys," greeted the boy as he yawned.

The plants, as if responding to the boy's greetings, waved their leaves. The boy himself, had an unusual natural hair color and eye color, which was both bright green. Combined with his strange obsession for plants, anyone would think that the boy is actually one himself.

Soon enough, he walked to the bathroom and took a quick bath, just to get rid of his body odor. Pure pale skin, combined with a small body stature, some might even think he is actually a girl, when he is not.

A few minutes later, he went out of the bathroom as he had finished taking a bath. Walking to his wardrobe, he opened it and started staring at his clothes in it.

"Hm.... what should I wear for today..," he thought as he kept switching glances between the clothes.

In his wardrobe, was multiple identical jackets with hoods, each of them being in various color. Despite the similarities, it took the boy 15 minutes to finally make a decision, and he decided to go with the red one.

After putting on his jacket and a pair of trousers, he walked to the door. But as he was about to leave, he realized something important.

"Oh, I haven't watered the plants!"

Turning back, he quickly ran to the bathroom and took a cup. With that cup, he filled it with water and then used it to water the plants, one by one. He did this 30 times, considering that he had 30 plants in his room.

It didn't take long for the boy to finish watering his plants, counting only around 15 minutes. Confirming that he didn't miss any, he placed the cup back in the bathroom before leaving the house.

"Well then, I'll be off!" said the boy while waving at his plants.

As he walked outside his room, he turned back only to see the greenhouse, acting as his current room and living place. Given as a gift by his parents, the boy had decided to make it his room, house and living place, all in one thanks to his obsession.

Naturally, his mother and father rejected the proposal strictly at first, but gave up in the end considering how much they had loved their son and wish to fulfill his request. The boy himself, possessing quite the intelligent mind had graduated from the high school at the mere age of 12. As such, nothing had held him back on making his decisions.

In the present, the boy did everything there was to be done ranging from fixing computers, taking care of animals and even cooking, but nothing beats his favorite of taking care of plants. Thanks to his freelancer job, the boy has quite the income that can support his daily necessities without requiring help from his wealthy parents.

Today, he decided that he would visit the Plant Centre to buy fertilizers for his plants as he is running low on them. Walking through the entrance, his face is instantly recognized by the shopkeeper as the boy has quite the reputation and is well-known within the city for his carefree and kind attitude.

"Welcome, I was expecting that you would come by today!"

"Thank you!"

"I presume you are here for fertilizers?" inquired the shopkeeper.

"Yes, I am. Is there any in stock?" the boy answered.

While holding her hands together, the shopkeeper happily stated, "Oh yes, of course! There will always be some left for you, my boy. Now then, please come with me."

Getting out of the counter, the shopkeeper gestured for the boy to follow her. Without a question, he followed her to enter the storage where the items are kept. In it, various tools, materials and things related to planting are neatly arranged on the shelves, extending way to the back.

As the shopkeeper kept on walking, he simply followed her footstep while watching the things in the storage room which amazes him every single time. After a few seconds, the shopkeeper stopped, and so did the boy.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

"There it is! Here, take it," said the shopkeeper while handing two bags of small fertilizers to the boy.

Grabbing hold of the two bags, the boy replied, "Thank you very much! How much is it for these two?"

"It's free today, my boy. The world is saved if we had a lot more people like you, so it's a way for me to express my gratitude for relentlessly taking care of plants." praising the boy, she patted him on his head while doing so.

"Eh...? But.. but..."

"When I say it's fine, it's fine! Now, off you go," finishing her sentence, she pushed the boy softly toward the storage room's door.

"Well.... then I'll take it, thank you!" slowly, he ran toward the exit and waved at the shopkeeper.

"It's my pleasure. Hope to see you again soon!"

Exiting the Plant Centre, he kept thinking of how he should he return the gift given by the shopkeeper during his next visit. Soon enough, he decided to put that matter aside and focus on returning home.

While on the way, he noticed that a strange group of people chasing a man that appears to be carrying with him something that looks like a bag. Clueless of the impending danger, the boy stood in the way of that man while trying to figure out what's happening.

Suddenly, the man who was running away from the group of people, grabbed the confused boy and pointed something blunt and black at the boy's head. Unknown to the boy, it's actually a gun. The peoples that was chasing him, stopped in their track as they saw the man's action. To make matters worse, they all turned pale blue as they recognized the boy who was being held hostage.

Panting heavily in exhaustion, the suspicious man stated, "If you want this boy to live, then stop chasing me!"

"Coward! Put the boy down and leave him alone! He has nothing to do with this!" in anger, one of the man in the group shouted.

"Uuu... guys? What's going on here...?" asked the boy.

Despite the boy's intelligence, he never knew of the existence of evil in this world. Fully pure, he was as if a treasure of the city, being the only one untainted from the darkness. Additionally, most of his time was spent being with the plants, so he never knew the hidden dark nature of humanity. As such, the current event plagued him with various questions as he never experienced it himself.

Suddenly, the one that shouted in reply at first, charged forward as he attempted to save the boy. But all of that soon enough turned hundreds of regret into himself, when one deafening sound roared everywhere. The boy was shot, in the chest.

"NOOO!!!" screamed one of the lady within the group.

"Hehe... you left me no choice."

Falling on his knee, the man who attempted to save the boy simply watched as the feeling of regret grasped his heart. The boy, the one who he meant to save, had died.

Filled with rage, the rest of the crowds charged at the man who held the gun, disregarding their safety in that matter. Fortunately, that sudden change of the situation shattered the gunner's concentration and causing every shot of his to miss. Taking only a few seconds, he was outnumbered and easily apprehended in the end.

However, despite their courageous feat, the peoples there was filled with sadness. A life, pure and kind, had been lost that day.

A few days later, a ceremony was held to mourn for the boy's death. The big church hall, which often are impossible to be filled, was full that day as everyone in the city had attended the ceremony.

Little did they know, that the boy's life was about to take a 360 degree spin.
