Tessa and Tina trudged in the snow, Midnight following behind them. At Midnight's insistence, they had rigged the truck to keep going and disembarked at some point. All they had on them was the clothes on their backs, and small gadgets they had equipped on their truck before.
However, time was moving, and they were running out of energy. Midnight, with the largest amount of energy, had no idea how to transfer her energy so it was useless to have a large energy pool. At this rate, Tessa and Tina would freeze to death.
"A-ahead. There seems to be a settlement." Tina spoke, breaking the silence. Tessa looked up, spotting the smoke rising ahead. It was faintly visible, but it was there. Midnight noticed the smoke too, but also had another thought.
"Tessa, was the truck set to follow the road?"
"Yes, why?"
A bad feeling rose in Midnight's heart, and she urged the other two to hurry forward. The distance was closed quickly, and they stopped at the edge of the forest, where a huge wall greeted their sight.
"It's a wall. A freaking wall." Midnight half-laughed as she spoke. The wall had traces of being erected recently. Most likely the work of terra-formers.
"You two wait and hide around here. I'll go take a look around." Midnight left them the scouting tools she had, and ran off, her figure blurring and vanishing into thin air. She was far from slow, traversing the forest area just as fast as she ran on the ground, not leaving behind any traces.
Circling around the front wall where the terra-formers had stopped their work, she found a sentry post. She sneaked up and landed lightly on the roof, barely making the sound of a scratch. There, she eavesdropped on the people inside.
"Those escaped traitors, I heard they were all pretty ladies. A shame I couldn't get to see them myself."
"Well if you your job, you'll see them soon. The trackers we were given show that they stopped at the edge of the forest for some reason. Better gear up for the inevitable search party."
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Trackers? Midnight left the roof of the sentry post, jumping on to the wall. Due to her ability, she was still invisible so nobody spotted her. She ran on the wall while maintaining her balance and barely making a sound. As she scouted the inside of the wall, she simultaneously paid attention to the place she had left her teammates just earlier.
Just as she finished her preliminary scouting, she spotted her friends being slowly surrounded in the forest. They didn't seem to realise it just yet, but Tina was already getting jumpy, feeling danger approaching.
Midnight stepped hard on the wall, using it as leverage to shoot in the direction of the closest soldier in the forest, which cracked the wall a little. As Midnight landed in the forest, her stealth came undone, having reached the end of it's duration. Using the forest growth as cover, and some precise movements, she sneaked up behind the soldier she had targeted.
The soldier didn't notice the impending danger. He looked forward, not seeing the two targets said to be nearby. Then he noticed something odd, a blip had appeared behind him. He didn't doubt, pulling out a knife to stab backwards so as to not alert the enemy. As he turned back, Midnight moved to stay in close proximity with his back, circling around him in the direction the soldier was stabbing in. She then pulled out the man's handgun, stored in his thigh holster.
Swiftly taking out the appropriate silencer from her utility belt, she used her other hand to grasp the arm swinging at her, and held it in place, then twisted it, causing the man to cry out in pain and drops the knife to the forest floor. Midnight then released his arm and attached the silencer to the handgun, then pointed it at the soldier's head and pulled the trigger with one smooth motion.
Blood flew, and the soldier's heavy body fell to the ground. His comms began to ring, likely due to the cry they had just heard.
* John? John do you hear me?
Midnight, suddenly feeling the urge to mess with the men, picked up the comms off the ground.
"Don't worry about John, mister, you'll be joining him very soon." She then crushed the comms with her hands, swiped the handgun, assault rifle, knife and ammo from the dead soldier, before leaving the spot.
She then approached her friends, who were relieved to see her. She motioned to them to be quiet, then signalled to Tessa to leave behind all the gadgets in the forest. She hesitated, but followed the order. Then, Midnight gave Tessa the assault rifle and knife, and Tina the now-silenced handgun. Then, she motioned to the two so they follow behind her, and they left the encirclement.
