Awakening pt. 2

Somewhere far away, there was a room with many screens in it. It seemed to be a monitoring room, though the reason for the distance away from the facility was a little baffling to anyone not in the know. Only the people using that room knew they were doing it for their own safety.

In one corner of the room, a light flashed on a circular metal plate, and when the light faded, a scientist could be seen standing on it, holding a thick stack of paper. She seemed to be struggling due to the weight, but was able to safely place the paper down on a nearby desk.

She exhaled nervously at all the pairs of eyes that had focused on her due to her sudden appearance, but she had a job to do. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. When she opened her eyes, the nervousness had greatly reduced.

She walked up to her direct superior. The atmosphere was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. Everyone had already seen the results, but they wanted confirmation. Confirmation that she would give them.

"The conversion process has been completed successfully, with minimum deviation." With that statement, the room burst into cheers. Various officials, regardless of their positions, celebrated without regards. The happy mood was infectious, making even the scientist smile.

It was almost an hour later when everyone was able to calm down enough to hear the rest of the report. After getting the signal from her superior, she continued.

"The model we decided to use is the individual potential awakening model. We realised from our previous tests that, among all the models we had come up with, this was one of the most effective for mass production with relative stability. The success rate is almost 100%, with the exceptions being those who are almost completely unsuitable to awaken special abilities.

"The model works by detecting the person's potential with a certain aspect, and maximising it as much as possible. With it, we can have extreme specialists within their fields, in large numbers, placing us ahead of most nations in the world currently. The rest of the details on the model are in this document." She picked up a document from the stack she had carried in and handed it to her supervisor, who used the projector in the room to display it to everyone.

A few moments later, everyone had read through the document. As awakened beings themselves, it wasn't too hard to roughly understand the contents of the document. Seeing that everyone was finished reading, the scientist continued on.

"The second model we chose was the general awakening model. With this model, those who had failed to awaken from the previous model would be able to awaken as an all-rounder, a term we gave to those who do not specialise in any field. A jack-of-all-trades, if you will.

"We noted an interesting occurrence where among those who had taken the previous model and failed, then took this model afterwards, there were a few who awakened using the previous model instead. It seemed as if the previous model had only failed partially, with the second model aiding to finish the process. We considered having successful subjects from the first model take the second model too, but they either died, or had the first model overwritten by the second. Thus, we decided to discontinue this path of research.

The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.

"Finally, from all our tests, there has been a 100% success rate among those who took the second model, with no risk to the well-being of the subject. Along with the cheap production costs, this is the most efficient model to use for overwhelming the enemy with numbers while not making any sacrifices of our own. The rest of the details are in this document." She picked up another document from the stack, which was shown to everyone once more.

"Finally, there is the last model, which was a possibility we had considered from the first model. If one could awaken in a particular direction, that fit their potential, what about awakening in a particular direction which they desired? Hence, the creation of the targeted awakening model. This model is as simple as the name suggests. It allows the person who takes it to awaken to the direction of that model."

The breath of everyone quickened at this statement. "However, there is a few drawbacks to this model. First, it is not guaranteed to work. Since the targeted direction of awakening is most likely not compatible with them, it is highly likely to fail. We are currently researching into a guaranteed method, but i highly doubt the success of this project, as it involves powers we cannot touch.

"Second, the person can only ever develop in this direction after awakening. Other than general enhancement serums, all other methods other than their particular direction of awakening will be ineffective, and even harmful to a certain degree. This is not something we can change if we want the model to be as effective as it is currently.

"Third, taking more than three of this model is fatal to most individuals. For those who survived, we were unable to find the reason, and so we don't recommend taking such a gamble.

"Last but not least, it cannot be used by those who have already awakened. This could cause consequences that even we cannot predict. It could be helpful or harmful, but we recommend, like the previous point, to not take the gamble recklessly."

These points were like a bucket of cold water on the head of the various officials, bringing them back to reality. Seeing that everyone was sober now, she decided to wrap things up.

"For the individual tests and procedures for the models, we have documented everything here." She tapped the stack of paper she had carried in. "We also sent a recording of most of the procedures to the archives server, the password is PROJECT_WPE. That is the end of my report." She then waited nervously.

"You may leave." Having obtained permission, she went to the circular plate she had appeared from, and it teleported her back to where she had come from. Left alone with the executives, the scientist's superior turned around to face them.

"Everyone has heard and seen the results for themselves. What do you say we continue with mass production?" A few moments of hushed discussion later, everyone agreed. One executive raised a point they had been struggling with before.

"Mr Frisk, how about the test subjects themselves? Our previous procurement methods may be unable to support mass production." The people in the room fell into thought, but Frisk raised an idea. "Aside from the usual, how about we take over various orphanages? Offer them benefits they can't refuse, and get more subjects that way. It also somewhat shields our activities from the prying eyes of the various governments we belong to."

After a vote, the course of action was decided, and the officials quickly hurried back to their various governments. Soon, Frisk was left alone. A few minutes later, the scientist from before teleported back in and went to stand before him.

"Now then, how goes the eternal project?" Frisk asked with a calm expression on his face.
