Midnight felt something off from Abby. She couldn't quite place a finger on it, but she felt that something was about to happen. She followed Abby into the kitchen, where she had cooked up what was practically a breakfast feast.
"Come on, sit and eat! We have to discuss something after breakfast." Breakfast was a blur, and soon, there was nothing left on the table, except dirty dishes.
As they moved the dishes to the sink, Abby began to talk.
"Well, it's been a few years, and I think you're now ready to go to school." Midnight's heart-rate increased from excitement, but Abby wasn't done. "This time, you'll be on your own, I won't be around to take care of you anymore."
This news was like rain putting out a fire to her excitement, shocking her for a bit. Abby pretended not to notice and continued to talk.
"Now, here's what you need to to when you're out there…" Abby spoke for a while, and helped Midnight get ready. Before she knew it, she was chucked out of the door with a satchel and a new storage artifact in the form of a pretty arm brace.

"Safe travels, and see you!" Midnight paused, then turned back to give Abby a hug.
"Bye bye." With that, she turned around and ran towards the main hub of the planet as Abby watched. She passed by the place where the wall that had blocked her used to be. She didn't remember anything before that, except the faces of her two friends. Everything else seemed to be blocked from her by a fuzzy grey wall, like the grey she saw.
As she progressed, she felt something probing her mind. After a few seconds, she felt her core stirring, trying to reconnect with it.
If you feel any connection, block it, no matter what.
Remembering what Abby had said, she resisted the connection as best as she could, and eventually, the feeling went away. Relieved, thought not knowing why, she followed the map she had been given.

In a tent, a soldier was staring at a screen looking bored, when he noticed a blip appear on the screen, then disappear after a few seconds. He looked through the logs lazily and saw the rejected connection request.
"Eh… probably another wanderer. The commander said to not pay attention to those."
He then returned back to monitoring the computer lazily. Midnight had just avoided a crisis, although only momentarily. There was still more to come.
