The night was calm. Nothing really big came close to the cave. Still, several small raptors that look similar to the giaprey walked about but from the looks of things, they were either food for the big monsters or the cleaners that ate the rest of the corpses.
During my shift I spoke with Mavis about the other monsters.
He passed me the names and what abilities he had seen them using.
No this is far from cheating.if you think about it, the fighting should be done but Mavis himself controlling us but he knows we have better fighting instincts.
The large bull thing we saw before is named Duramboros. Its main focus of fighting is charging like a bull and using any kind of tail attack.
By that I mean, sweep, slam, spinning slam all that.
Like before the weak points Mavis was able to extract by examining it was ironically the tail and the massive hump on its back.
Mainly lives in dense forests and eats trees like we saw him doing.
In hindsight it's slow and so chances are that we can outmaneuver him.
The best thing we can do is to cripple his weapon by destroying it with a surprise attack. I think me and my mate can use the trees to surprise it with an attack to the back.
Macis warned me that when we get within one kilometer of it his vision will be cut so that he can't warn us of impending attacks to keep fight fair. Only when we are alone and away from monsters.
Another rather annoying thing that was said was that this thing and so shitty sea monster he called lagisomething were left to control themselves. The are a few of the strongest creatures here so unless it's needed the dungeon conscious will not control them.
It works for us that they are cocky but then again, cockiness exists because they have a reason to be cocky.
Before I could ask more it was already to switch watch so I simply went to sleep.
Waking up in the morning we made food and started to get ready.
Mavis: "hey everyone, the other dungeons are quite bored with you. They were rather disappointed that you didn't fight at night."
Helen: "You can tell them to shove it up their asses they aren't the ones risking their lives down here."
I hear him laughing which brings a grin to everyones face.
Helen: 'Alright boys, lets get hunting. This thing is supposed to be one of the strongest monsters here, let's show those pompous dungeons who is stronger!
I say that and it makes the other growl.
Helen: ' This is what we will do as well as a few improvised ideas.'
I spoke quietly because whatever is watching us can't come close when pack creatures of any noticeable intelligence are making plans.
Once ready, we mount our Snowlions and after opening the cave and race out with Mavis leading the way until the limit one his vision was placed.
We follow our ears and nose after that and soon we near the monster.
We slow down as we could already feel the vibrations in the ground from its slow walking.
Through the hive link I call everyone.
Helen: "Get to your places. Those who I called before come with me. Snowlions, support those on the ground. Make it a priority to live through this."
I let out a small growl before splitting up.
My mate, another male and I dismount and let our Snowlions head off to their spot while we three climbed the nearest three getting up high. Nearly 7 meters up. A good height since we are above the massive monsters size.
We stealthily jump from one tree to the next until we reached a clearing.
Covered in moss and stomped ground the area was like a forest arena. The space has greatly expanded to 250 meters in diameter with the monster about 100 meters away chewing on a tree.
I didn't seem to care about our presence or it still hadn't noticed.
Us three jump closer until we are two trees from the edge and still out of sight up near the top.
I use the dungeon link to find the position of everyone and when I confirmed everyone's place I pull out my great sword.
My mate pulls out a the barroth skull hammer while the other male pulled out a barroth skull tower shield and a steel bone long sword.
On my signal us three jumped forward crossing the distance left and heading straight to the massive hump on the mobsters back.
I gather my mana in my great sword and active the wind magic skills but using the weapons.
A second wind blade formed around my greatsword. Jt was twice the size of the sword itself so my reh was extended but I let myself drop closer and swung when the actual sword would hit.
My mate did a similar thing with the hammer and when we neared he did a front flip similar to what the monster itself did and brought the hammer down.
Lastly was the other male that copied me.
My mates hit was first and it cause multitude of cracks to appear and made it possible for our swords to cut deep.
The moment after we land on the practically destroyed hump the pain reached the monsters tiny brain and he let out a massive roar in pain.
I signal for the others to jump and we grab the trees as the monster starts to buck trying to get us off.
While it was distracted from the pain two hammer uses came running out and jumping on the tail, slammed down as well before jumping back on their mounts and running into the forest making sure to stay out of the monsters view while hiding in the brush again.
Up until now we were all hidden and though we hit both weak points it will be harder from now on.
He slowly stalks to the middle of the clearing while sniffing the air.
It looks towards the direction the boys went but it was part of the plan.
They attack the tail and retreat into the forest tree and turn in different directions.
Our races terrain advantage is in the forest. Fighting in a clearing against a stronger foe or a foe we know little about would be suicide.
Even though I may be a berserker I am not so stupid to think that kind of title would keep us alive against monsters that are monster forms of those found outside of the dungeon.
The bull puffs its breath which comes out as steam from its large body like the animal bull, it pulls its front paw as it gets ready to rush.
I make sure no one is in that direction and just watch as we move around closer to where it will go.
Then it began to run and after building speed it dropped its head and began to crash through the forest causing all trees that got in his way to fall and clearing a path.
We followed behind in the trees and once he stopped we jumped him and attacked again in both spots before retreating.
It got really pissed after that.
A small cloud came out with each breath which showed it was enraged.
It let out a loud roar before curving its body. I was a moment too late to realize what it was doing.
Mavis: ”MOVE NOW!”
As soon as Mavis shouted through the link several of the nearby men ran away fast enough but some didn’t.
Building its momentum it suddenly started to spin like a top letting the rock like tail to spin in full circle.
The tail smashed its way through trees and the unlucky war tigers and Snowlions.
Two tigers and one snowlion were hit and thrown far.
They didn’t die which was a blessing in disguise.
Mavis: ”Two war tigers down and one snowlion someone get them away and treat them.”
A pair of war tigers answered and ran towards the men while their partners took the snowlion.
We watch the monster as he sniffs around and catches the scent of those he hit.
Helen: ”Shit, he is going for those that got hit. Get them away fast. Come on we need to distract it!”
I hurry them along and call those in the trees to attack.
I jump around and aim for the tail with other blade wielders.
Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.
I wanted to get rid of its best weapon.
We all charge our weapons as it was focused on the fallen tigers. Because of that it didn’t notice us when the four of us fell down behind him and put our all into cutting his tail.
It was only magic that let us pass the massively strong carapace on its tail and cut some of the muscle but it stopped soon after.
Still a large geyser of blood rushed out while the monster itself let out a roar of pain.
We ran back as fast as possible because he winded up and did another spin.
One of the long sword wielders was caught in the spin attack and was launched far.
He got up limping and hid himself from view of the beast.
Instead it turned to our group which it finally caught sight of.
It let out a roar and started to charge.
Helen: 'Split up!'
I yelled and before it got to close, we split to both sides and dodged the massive body as it passed.
When I looked I saw my mate jump off the tree with his hammer charged while he spun sideways.
The monster saw him so it didn't stop its charge but that was what he wanted.
When he was two meters from the ground the monster reached him but unlike what it wanted, the hammer loaded with magic power hit the side of the head in a diagonal angle pushing the head down on the same angle.
The hit was really powerful and probably dazed him because soon after the legs gave way and his body followed the head as it toppled to the said turning falling to my right with a crash.
That was seriously powerful and seeing the monster moaning in its dazy made me snap out of it.
Helen: 'QUICKLY, SMASH THE BACK AND CUT THE TAIL!!'
My yell wakes everyone up.
My mate who was pushed by the monsters momentum got up and limped over to the back before he started to smash it.
Another hammer user went and helped him and after they hit the fifth time the massive earth hump broke off. Under it was a soft muscle that looks easily to cut
As for me I focused on the tail with a few others.
It takes several slices to the area we already started cutting he break all of the carapace and start cutting into the much denser muscle.
Three cuts into the muscle though he woke up from the pain and I call for retreat.
We run and climb the trees and have the snowlions stay on the front lines.
They can easily dodge his rushes and attacks so leaving them be wasn't a problem.
What is though is what Mavis just said.
Mavis: "The owner of that monster just took control. Get ready because it's going to get serious."
As if on cue the bull steps forward and drawing its breath, let out a roar incomparable to the others.
It was a skill that stunned opponents.
While we blocked our ears he started his charge.
I instantly felt Mavis's mind take over all the Snowlions and ran away. As the monster passes them he circled around and ran full speed while dodging the random tail whips it was doing while it ran wild in the forest.
We followed behind in the trees and watched as one by one the snowlions jumped on its back after getting close and run at the soft muscle on its back.
The first to reach it was Skull. She bet right into it and ripped a chunk out and ate it while riding.
She then started to slash and claw into it.
Soon after a few others arrived and did the same.
The bull started to buck and turn smashing its bleeding tail into the nearby trees.
The tail is really a pain in the ass.
Still a small part near the top revealed the spine on the back. It looks disgusted to see it out in the open but it gave me and idea.
I raced around in the trees getting close and as soon as he stopped to rest a moment before the lions started attacking again. I jumped and holding my sword straight down I shove the blade right in between the vertebra and with a twist the connection breaks and the tail hangs loose.
I pulled the sword free and one final cut on the still connected muscle cut it loose making the tail fall flat.
The bull let out a blood curtailing roar but its movements grew weak now as hundreds of gallons of its blood gushed out while more bleed from the hump.
After another desperate shaking it finally gave way and crashed on the ground making the area shake.
It took a moment for us to register what happened but when we did we all let out roars of triumph.
We all ran at the exposed hump and clawed into the meat and stuffed ourselves.
For use to heal quickly, a belly full of meat from a powerful beast is all we need.
When we all finished, we carved out a large amount and helping those still recovering we return to the cave and feed the injured to help them heal.
While we feast Mavis began speaking to all of us.
Mavis: "That was great guys. The entire audience is speechless even now. You guys did great killing it."
Helen: "Don't play dumb, I know you took over the lions and killed it."
Mavis: "Wrong, I just took them out of harm's way and then left them with instructions to finish it. It's really good that you guys are doing great what as once being called the weakest creature now puts you in fifth strongest of all monsters that started the competition."
Mate: "Not first?"
Mavis: "No, that rank is for individual strength. They believe a single one of you can take all but the top five alone."
This made all the war tigers purr with pride and grin.
I couldn't help do the same. To hear a compliment like that who wouldn't be happy.
Mavis: "Anyways, there is only six competing races left. The top rank is the sea monster I told Helen yesterday. It is called the Lagiacrus. A large sea dragon with lightning abilities. It can spit mucus that will shock you and probably paralyze you for some time. Also its scales are super dense because of how deep in water it lives. If you avoid the rest of the monsters then this will eventually be your final opponent."
I had a serious expression on my face. Up until now all I heard was that it was a sea creature but to know that it had lighting attacks is a pain.
Its a hard element to control even with magic. That said it's also a sea creature. Unless it comes out of the water then it will be hell to fight.
Helen: "We will avoid the rest. All the others are flying monsters right?"
Mavis: "Yes they are. Only the two onsters you killed were land monsters."
Helen: "Then tomorrow we m9ve out towards that fish. The other monsters will want to kill that fiah as muchas they want to kill us. I think its best to wait until.two of them are fighting and we ambush both."
Mavis: "Be careful, the remaining creatures aren't pushovers either. If they need they aren't afraid to run away. Also don't leave with injured. There is a night hunter that will kill everyone easily. It's far and will probably fight the Lagiacrus before you all but its fast so it can easily cover a lot of space if it spots you at night."
Helen: "I didn't plan to go today anyway. We need everyone so we will go when they are better. The herbal slime potions do help a lot though. Never seen such a good one before."
Mavis: "Yep, well I will be watching the rest of the monsters. Don't worry because there isn't anything near."
A few of us sigh in relief.
Guess the tension is still large even when you are a race made of fighters.
After eating our fill a second time, we snuff the fire and set up a watch.
It was still morning but with injured we can't move today.
