Chapter 27 Calm before the Storm

Last chapter of the week guys hope you all enjoy. Hehehe

Helen PoV

AH! The suspense is killing me. Ever since i started hunting the Saurus to catch up to Phil, who got ranked up, earlier i gained a lot of power.

I finally ranked up a week ago and Dalson made me into a Saber Tooth War Tigerman.

It’s pretty much a beast man but for anyone else beside me they don’t have a complete mind. They are smart but still run on instinct and survival.

The look itself was rather nice. My body in general was human except for my legs which still were like the hind legs of a tiger but that was more because they are better for speed. My body had such dense muscles that i was wondering exactly how to compare it to. Steel was weaker so i guess something stronger? Well to call me a high level monster would work. Maybe if i compare my muscles to dragon scales it would work. Nah dragon scales are stronger. Well whatever. Because my body was dense i didn’t have much excessive muscles like before and was rather slim and had a nice female figure but not to hourglass. I was rather small in bust but i preferred it. Before they were too large and got in the way but the way i am now is just perfect for a fighter.

My hands were now human hands with my nails in the form of short hooked claws like a tigers ending on a sharp point. Because i was now human like i took leather from the drakes and other monsters and made some armor that would work for this body. It was more as clothes since i was far too strong now to be worried about the monsters in here. At least for now.

With some armor made i had the Goblin blacksmith make me weapons i liked most. First were the classic sword and shield, then a second sword for dual wielding, a metal bow for convenient ambushes, and finally a great sword made from steel. What came out from the great sword was a nice magic sword. The reason is the Iron ore and Coal ore we mined was probably holding magic power.

The sword was named “Great Splitter”. You can’t imagine how happy i am to have a weapon with this name. When i load it with magic power the effect increases its sharpness by 20% makes for cutting monsters much easier.

Or a few paladins. After getting bored of training I’ve been itching for a good fight and these bastards came at just the right time or else i might have spared with Mavis.

I couldn’t contain my excitement so i went and worked it off on the Drakes that have been getting too big and cocky for their own good.

I need to get Mavis to build a level made with just these lost continent monsters to make a challenge. Or he should make more of them. Maybe a larger wyvern or a sea dragon.

I never would have found happiness in fighting so much as a human. Getting old was wearing me down, now i can fight in my prime for a long time.

For today i just need to do a bit of sharpening of my weapons before i get to chop that bastard up.

Ever since I ranked up after we conquered the animal dungeon I’ve been training. My body is a variant so it’s more human then what Mavis had. I can’t say I’m good looking but i know I’m more human as a Feral Ratman (Rare Variant).

All my skills before ranked up to steel claw and whatever else like Mavis but i can’t match his power since he has magic. Still i started training myself to regain the skills from my assassin life. [Shadow Step], [Blur], [Phantom Strike]. These skills i worked myself to do. Naturally these are skills related to the Class Ghost Assassin but i knew all the movements and i trained them to exhausting. Because of this my power raised to levels far greater than i expected. First off I did learn [Blur]. That skill in itself was the basic of the basic for assassins as it’s the base for all the other skills. I couldn’t be happier. The skill itself is adding MP to your feel and kicking the ground in a specific manner. This method of kicking the ground allows you to accelerate at monstrous speeds giving the name of the skill [Blur] as it makes the body vanish and move so fast you can only see a small blur if you are good enough to pick up on the body.

With this skill i could more easily try and perform the other skills.

When I heard about the paladins i started to train harder. The reason was because of those cocky paladins. The human’s church always had it out for our guild because we researched dungeons, something they were always against for some reason but since no logical reason except, “The gods are displeased with this” was given we never stopped. More than once i butted heads with their paladins so to have the pleasure of killing one was a good change to blow off some steam. I’ve trained in the labyrinth around the great forest where the bats live. They are borderline creatures with minds so we let them stay but it’s not like we will leave them alone to grow to such huge numbers.

The Death Bat was no longer a challenge i found worthy and i might need to have Dalson rank them up more to give me something to work out to.

Though my fur is silver, whenever i finish my training i am colored red. A few of the other races gave me the title “Feral Blood Ratman”. I can’t blame them, i am always covered in the stuff but i at least wash up after coming out.

I simply wait outside my cove in the rain forest watching the sun crystals at night. During night time the sun crystal’s light fades and instead they start to sparkle like stars. It’s much more beautiful than in the world outside where the skies in the cities are tainted and blurred by the lights of the magic lamps.

I know that eventually we will need to unite the creatures in here to form a single town and kingdom but i think this is good for now. Just protecting this piece of land is ok for me. I won’t let the paladins, church or gods ruin this small piece of paradise.

Grant PoV

I was right. This dungeon is theirs. I can’t believe Dalson was alive. Did they bring him back or was it something else. The dungeon was called Mavis. Do they mean the actual Mavis Shin?

Wait, could he have resurrected. No he would be a skeleton or necromancer if he did. He looks human all its glory, no even more than that, a true great sage.

So these wise men weren't fiction made by the bards who tell folklore. If it’s true then in the past these sages originated from the dungeons born from humans. How did he come back to life? Reincarnation is possible but to be reborn as a human in a dungeon in so little time and gain so much power.

It’s definitely a different reason.

I waste no time to approach him with my hand on my heirloom sword.

Grant: 'Dalson! You better tell me how you're alive unless you make me take your life again.'

The two elders just look at me while sipping their tea. After taking a sip he sighs.

Dalson: 'First things first. Good to see you commander. Now about your question. I never died. Seeing me coming from the dungeon, you might have guessed Mavis is the dungeon correct.'

I nod as a scowl starts to spread over my face.

Cornelius: 'Stop scowling boy, you will get more wrinkles.'

Dalson: 'Don't mind it, that's the face he makes when he can't understand something. Anyway you might have noticed a ten year gap where we didn't learn anything else correct.'

I nod again already seeing a bit of where this is going.

Dalson: 'Well we had learned from exploring dungeons besides the monster races in the many dungeons. So we researched creation of dungeons after that to learn the inner workings. The first ten years was slow progress but then ten years ago the spell we used evolved and turned the body of the caster into a dungeon. The first was Philip who went crazy and was put in stasis, then Helen who handled one floor before growing and wasting too much power and falling to hunger. I went next and went mad when your guards attacked several times and ruined my work.'

I cringe hearing that and i bow.

Grant: 'Sorry, i didn't know.'

Dalson: 'No problem. It's your orders to destroy all dungeons. Anyway the last was Mavis and you see what it's like now. Eleven floors and counting with over 100 different races and a world of his own growing as we speak.'

Cornelius: 'You kids sure did some incredible stuff. And to think the Dungeon Researchers were right here and i didn't know.'

Dalson: 'Speak for yourself.'

There was something hidden behind that but i didn't pry since it involved the chief. I simply sigh and pull my hand away from the sword and put it on my head and massage it. For him to tell me so easily shows that he doesn't fear the fact going out. Put simply, they have enough strength inside that they can fight an invasion.

Dalson: 'Hoo~?! Is that a katana from the eastern kingdoms? It’s been ages since i have seen one. Ah it brings back memories of when me and some of the men traveled to that side to check out the dungeons on that side.'

Grant: 'What's that side of the continent like?'

Dalson: 'Horrible. War is everywhere and the races there are so rotten that the only real nobles are those who train the sword in secret hidden away. These men go by the title of Samurai. It’s a class but i do believe a kobold with a neutral disposition, high sense of moral, and training can rank up into a humanoid monster with that kind of class. Very few do.'

Grant: 'I got this from my father. It was obtained when he travelled over there.'

Dalson: 'Lucky man, if you try to get it from a samurai all you will get is the broken blade. If they see they will die they break the blade of their sword in a form of honoring those they felled. I think it's an idea that, "The blade that fell my foes shouldn't be tainted by the hands of evil or covered in the blood of innocents".'

Cornelius: 'Quiet intense mentality.'

Dalson: 'Mind if i examine the blade.'

My brows rise up in surprise but then after a moment i remove the blade with the sheath and pass it to him.

He takes it carefully the removed blade. The light that strikes the blade and gives a feel of looking into solid flames.

He looked it through all sides and checked everything physically. He then held it sideways and then put his left hand over the sword.

Magic began exiting his hand and covered the sword. I was about to say something but it happened quickly before it vanished.

Dalson: 'Don't worry that was an advanced level identity skill which shows me things like how it was produced and history about the sword. I found out the method to make this weapon and through it a similar weapon known as a wakizashi which a short version of this sword.'

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

He sheathed the sword and gave it back to me.

Dalson: 'Thank you for showing me this. We were able to get a lot out of this. So, what are you going to do now?'

Grant: ‘What do you mean?’

Dalson: ‘I mean plans for the future. Are you going to settle down here? Move on further into the frontier? Go to the east?’

I frowned and thought about it. From what i know the east are war zones without mercy for anyone who enters. The dungeons here can only bring wealth to the city and deeper into the frontier we still don’t know. It’s believed only 40% of the continent has been seen and explored.

Grant: ‘What do you guys plan on doing?’

Dalson looks up for a moment staring into space before he looks back.

Dalson: ‘Once we teach the church their place Mavis is thinking of heading to the one of the lost continents.’

He said it with a blank expression but i knew that look. He was hiding his irritation.

Grant: ‘That’s...dangerous.’

Dalson: ‘We will manage. A dungeon is all about adaptation so eventually we will reach a level where we can handle the place. If we can clear an area near the shores that is safe we can take some regular sentient races from here over there and make a settlement. If we make sea monsters we can kill many others that traverse to waters opening safe passage.’

He implied quite a few things and some of them made me pale a bit. To make creatures of that scale to combat lost continent monsters could only be said by someone like Dalson.

Grant: ‘I will remain here. I can’t think of a better dungeon for training new recruits. I think i will open a training school for teaching students.’

Dalson: ‘Then make an academy and try getting in contact with people of several class types. The more that joins the better. Also you can include craft classes as well.’

I laughed at that. Even after he was thought to be dead he still goes on about that academy

Grant: ‘Yes i think i will do that.'

For the rest of the day i listen to the two talk about some stories and Dalson remembering many monster during his adventures.

It went until the sun set and i went to sleep back in the inn.

It is rather bad to know that the human’s church has come. Though we all have been abandoned by the light god of our race i think only the human’s god would actually think anything of it. Seeing Dalson as an arcane i could very well understand why. Though elves are excellent at magic even i can't reach a threshold like that.

We gain physical strength instead of magic power but this strength is high enough to make me at least a lower S rank, so it’s quite easy to understand why the god of the most average race in the world sent paladins here. Having an evolved human walking like folklore sages is something she must fear.

Right now i am sharpening my sword. It’s still dark outside but my white hair seems to radiate the little light that was coming from the shimmering crystals on the ceiling.

Soon would be the fight and everyone was getting ready. A fight between Paladins and our group is bound to become a warzone. The camp outside to of the dungeon gate was brought down but some people did enter the dungeon.

Mavis said they were scouts gauging our strength. They followed the rules and went in the outpost and during the night they finished all level 1 floors. They exited after getting some iron gear because they just ran through while hacking at everything. The idiots even attacked the skeletons and had to run.

In the end they got through by simply running through the third and fourth floor where the real threats lived.

I’m sure they will have a bit more caution but then again they might think the knights and priests were weak.

Anyway as the crystals start to light up i could feel the tension rise as everyone starts to wake up.

Everyone was worried about the five of us who were going to fight. The strength of a paladin is like that of a demi god. It already falls under unimaginable so to say things were getting heated up. We eat breakfast early so the food doesn't get in the way and do meditation until Mavis calls us.

As the sunlight reaches its full strength Mavis calls.

Mavis: "It’s time guys."

I get up and at the entrance to the village Dalson was already there with everyone. I get there ready for war to protect my home and friends.

I nod to Dalson and the portal opens and we both cross and find the five paladins and the high priest there ready.

I look to the side and see three other portals which Helen, Philip and Mavis was walking out of. Behind them were their minions, everyone but Mavis.

High priest: 'Those creatures. What are they?'

Mavis: 'They are one of the races we don't allow hunting. They are from the rat family. The cats originate from wild cats around Kelion. Don't scold your scouts we hide nearly half the creatures in our dungeon because they are quite dangerous for the villagers.'

Priest: 'And who are you?'

Mavis: 'My name? Its Mavis Shin, the dungeons conscious and what you see is my dungeon lord.'

The six men and all the people behind them, both clergymen and villager made a commotion about it. It’s never been heard of a dungeon lord moving outside. A dungeon boss, yes but it’s been thought that a dungeon lord was a creature fixed inside the dungeon.

Paladin 1: 'SILENCE!!'

His voice boomed over the noise and silenced them.

Mavis: 'Let me just ask out of curiosity. Is this another crusade of the human god’s church because we added cores into humans or is this about the magic items our dungeon produces?'

I see them frown by the priest scowls. The paladins have probably undergo teachings since birth to the point of being brainwashed into thinking that anything they do is right but a priest is someone who has a great deal of power and if he gains a steady supply of magic items his power would rise.

The knights behind him shout curses for my insulting question. About half the older knights were yelling to hide their own anger at being read. The rest were normal followers of the human goddess’s faith and were angry at the insult itself. To see who is corrupt and who is good within a church, insulting to their pride or their main objective is the best way.

Priest: ‘We came at the orders of the goddess to kill you and your dungeon as it is too dangerous.’

Mavis nod. He didn’t want to say too much and went with a logical answer when speaking of a dungeon that grows at an unbelievable pace and can be ranked A rank already if you use the outpost as a reference.

Dalson: ‘So, will it be one on one or do you wish to move further into the forest so we can fight all five at once.’

The priest looks at the paladins and all of them hold one finger.

Priest: ‘One on one. Though you are monsters, we do recognize that you all have high rationality and can fight in a nobleman's dual.’

With that decided he points to one of his men and he comes up. He was in his fifties and on his left arm was a mithril shield shining white in the sunlight, and on his hip were two swords hanging there. He pulled one of them out and looked at us.

Paladin: ‘I am first, which of you will die to my blade first.’

Without uttering a word the sound of a quick wind blowing from our side blows towards the man. He swings his sword up.

CLANG!! BOOM!

The clash of metal on metal could be heard. In the air above the paladin while holding her sword and shield was Helen with a grin on her face.

Under her was the paladin who was frowning. The clash was so powerful that when he directed the impact into the ground it formed a two meter wide crater 60 cm deep. He forces the sword up and flings Helen up and she back-flips and lands on her feet before she stands up gracefully.

Helen: ‘Names Helen Beatrix. Get ready to die little man.’
