As I make circles on the dishes with a soaped-up scrub, I look up over the granite kitchen countertop to see Anita, with her feet planted over the table while she has her ass is sitting on the couch. She seems in her world as she changes between the channels with a grin on her face.
"Take your feet off the table, honeybug. You might leave a mark or two."
Anita turns her head to me while still having that unfunny smile.
"Hey, do you know who paid for that table?"
I lower my gaze and resume washing ceramic dish slowly bracing myself for another rant.
"Me. Who paid for the clothes that you're wearing? Me. Who paid for that dish AND that shit you're scrubbing it with? Hm? That's fucking right. It's me. I've paid for everything, and I reserve the right to do anything I want with it.
"I-I know, honeybug, but it's just extra work for me, you know? Please try to understand this."
"Shut the fuck up, Adrian. You're getting on my nerves lately, you know that? It's your job to clean and take care of the house, so stop bitching about it, okay?"
I just sigh and nod in defeat as I resume washing the dishes. I can feel Anita smirking in my peripheral vision as she likes seeing me submitting to her before she turns her head back to watching the channel.
I keep the dishes in a soaking utensil as I'm done washing them. I get to cleaning the countertop off a bunch of stains, as I hear the T.V volume increasing gradually, and the voice of a news reporter.
"This just in, a Big Tech company, has just been sued for a staggering $491 Million, for exploiting child labor, making poor children, and young men and women in underdeveloped countries, making them work for little to no pay, and exporting their electronics over here, and selling them for a HUGE 900% markup!"
I peek my head over the counter and see Anita in a serious spirit now. She doesn't have her leg over the table now, but rather she has her arms crossed while her left leg is over the other. I put the damp rag away and walk over to the front room, while still having my apron on me, and sit next to her while having an eye on the T.V.

"That's pretty horrible, you know? I'm glad, they're getting sued. Make sure you get the name of the company; we shouldn't buy any more products from them."
Anita just nods in unison, as we both keep watching the news.
"This tech company was looked into, and an investigation was launched after the well-known L.P Firm had inquired into the tech company, and it refused to give any information on how its workers were taken care of, health-wise and insurance-wise."
My ears perk up as I hear this is the same fucking firm Anita works in.
"D-Did you know about this, Anita? I mean, I know this is a high-profile case, but you must've heard about this from the Partners, or your Seniors at the firm or something, right?"
Anita again, just nods and doesn't say a word as I look at her for her confirmation. Sensing her stone-cold demeanor, I gulp and tap her crossed arm, and gesture for her hand. She obliges and I take her hand into mine, intertwining her tender, cute fingers around mine, in a bid to comfort her.
"According to my sources, erm...it wasn't the Partners, or the Directors at the firm, but rather, a singular Senior Executive at the firm who spearheaded the investigation and was intent on discovering the Tech company's malpractices!"
I smirk and a small chuckle escapes my mouth.
"I wonder who that is. I bet they must've had pretty strong determination, eh, Anita?"
"...."
The news reporter then corrects his earphones deep into his as he listens to someone, probably a higher-up on something.
"Uh-huh. Oh, okay."
He looks at the camera and then resumes.
"According to our latest information, it was a Senior Executive at the firm named, Anita. She has been working on this case for 3 months, and Anita was leading a whole team of Associates and lawyers under her belt. We all applaud her for her valiant efforts!"
My grip on her hand gets tighter. The sound of the news reporter fades away, moving into another piece of news, as I slowly tilt my head over to Anita. She has a satisfied look on her face and a huge grin, ear to ear.
