Chapter 28: Retreat

I'm tired. And exhausted.

After taking the final exam of the week, I almost feel a huge burden has been lifted off of my shoulders. I can feel a lot of relief in my mind, though a pinch of stress from all the studying I'd done is still there, regardless.

Resting in the shade of an oak tree inside college campus, I wait for Jay to finish his exam. Even though he was fidgeting and sweating bullets in the room while we were being handed our question papers, I was done with the test way before him.

That silly guy.

He probably wants to squeeze out a bunch of answers from the poor girl sitting behind him. I feel sorry for her.

Taking a deep breath with a wide grin, I lay my back flat on the earth.

The chirping of those pesky birds feel rather calming today.

-

"So, what are your plans for the weekend?", Jay asks me, in an annoying tone.

Tch. I know where this is going.

"I don't know. Maybe go out shopping? Might just have dinner at a fancy place. Ooor, just spend the night at home, watching movies."

Jay's eyebrow perked up. Tilting his head a bit towards me, he resumed,

" And chill with the missus. Huh, huh~", he nudges me with a grin on his face.

That last bit might really be true. We've abstained for two weeks now, with the few exceptions of her grinding on my body while she was asleep...but that's not the point here.

"M-Maybe..", I let him in on the deets, with a blush on my face.

Hearing this, Jay takes a swipe at my arm in a playful manner.

"Fuck! I'm so jealous! You get a nice wife, a good home, an amazing future, and the list goes on. Why can't it be the same with me?"

I glance at Jay, sensing a hint of genuine longing in his eyes. He doesn't look too bad, with his short black hair cut in a military-style complimenting his eyebrows along with this stubble connecting to his sideburns that make him look a bit older than he really is.

"You'll get there.", I reassure him with a calming voice.

Walking through the narrow corridors and the orange sun setting down, I recall a talk I had with Anita over dinner.

"Jay", I call out to him to which he tilts his head while walking.

"You aren't in a relationship right?"

"I'm not. Why, what's the matter?", he responds whilst shaking his head.

"This is kinda awkward, but uh...Anita has someone that she wants to introduce you to. Get to know each other. Understand what I'm saying?"

Hearing this, he stopped abruptly, leaving him behind. I stop to look at what's wrong with him, only for Jay to place both of his arms on my shoulders. I flinch with a little bit of disgust as the tension rises high with the silence between us kicking in.

So there we were. Two men staring at each other. After about 30 seconds, which felt like 30 minutes to me, he started shaking me all the while yelling.

"YOU'RE THE ABSOLUTE BEST, YOU KNOW THAT?!"

-

"Here! Over here!!", Mia yelled out loud while standing smack middle of the floor waving her hands side by side. The students around her gave her annoying glares, but she didn't care what others thought about her. A shy and fidgeting Jessica stood alongside her.

The floor of this building was flush with multiple students, many socializing with their peers. It annoyed Adrian every time their classes ended before the girls' because that meant he and Jay had to walk from pretty much one end of the campus to the other end to hang out with them. He discarded the hate pretty quickly after getting used to it, though.

Seeing the girls, Jay starts to pick up the pace in the corridor opening up to the huge section of the building, while his grip tightened on his bag. I exhale and do the same.

Right after the duo passed the halfway mark of the narrow corridor, Adrian's phone beeps in a signature ringtone. His pace falters, and right as he pulls out his phone, a hand grabs him from the side of the wall, pulling him into complete darkness and out of view.

"I'm gonna steal you for a bit~", the figure in the dark scowls at him.

-

Noticing his best friend not with him, Jay immediately turns back and sees a hand from the side still clutching onto the wall

"Adrian?", a worried Jay calls out to him.

I peek out the side and reaffirm him.

"Y-Yeah, I'll be right with you guys. Just gotta pee. Go on without me."

Jay nods and dashes to the group.

I sigh and question her while giving her a mean look.

"What're you doing here, Anita?"

She has a creepy smile on her face, while her gaze alternates between my eyes. Not backing down, I raise my voice demanding answers.

"I asked you a ques-"

Anita's cold fingers slithering on my lips stop me in my tracks. Shushing me, she carefully caresses my face like with a gentle touch, with her fingers going up and down gliding across my face. After a while, my breath starts to hitch noticing her vanilla perfume enveloping around me.

After she's done inspecting me, she leans in gently and places a gentle kiss on my lips.

Mint and a sweet taste of her lipstick.

"I wanted to pick you up."

Anita leans forward, pinning me against the wall and pushing her body into mine. Poking her knee gently into my crotch, she maintains steady eye contact with me.

She leans even further, and the lavender smell emanating from her hair fills up my lungs, making me feel hot all of a sudden. Her mouth opens up while she whispers in my ears with a seductive tone.

"Honeymoon.

Remember?"

-

"I'm still upset you just dragged me out of there, you know?!", I yell out loud.

"I just had to do it, you know. Our marriage is more important than your friends. Oh, and Jay owes me one for setting up a date with my friend, anyway. So it's all fair in the end", Anita replies with a playful tone while tapping her fingers on the steering wheel.

As the couple drives on a narrow road, far away from the city, the headlights cast huge shadows over the trees. The sun has almost set, with a tinge of orange in the eclipsed sky.

"And mind explaining why are you driving your truck?", I scowl at her. Glaring hard at Anita, I make sure my feelings get across.

"Like I said. Honeymoon.", she takes in a deep breath."We're going somewhere special. Some place where we could be...private."

That's not good.

"W-We could be private at home.", I mutter while looking out the window. " I don't get the point of going into the woods for god knows what..."

A warm hand clutches my thigh, and I hear an angelic voice.

"Don't worry. I'm not hiding anything behind your back or plotting something evil. I just wanted to spend some quality time with my honeybee after being denied for so long."

Anita comforts Adrian, all the while holding an obnoxious laugh behind her lips.

There's no way she couldn't hold herself back all while alone with her husband. It took her everything to not just stop the vehicle and take him right then and there. Grinning internally, and looking forward, she couldn't stop thinking about all the things they could do together over the course of these 3 days.

Silence ensued as the sounds of the truck crunching rocks and leaves while rushing through a hardened road filled up the atmosphere.

"Besides, don't you like how nice this feels, Adrian? No corporate offices anywhere you see. No fast food chain restaurants. No bars or clubs.", Anita muses while flailing her hand out the window carelessly, and gesturing towards the passing by trees and bushes.

Minutes pass, and with the sun down, the atmosphere is dark now. It isn't too far before the truck slows down as a dimly lit wooden structure comes into their vision. The road seems to smooth out too, like it was maintained properly.

"The light coming from the window you see there, Adrian?", she asks while pointing to illumination, as if it wasn't obvious already.

"That's where we're gonna spend this weekend."

Great.
