CHAPTER 5

"Who is she?" Jaden asked, seated in the driver's seat while Diana's in the passenger seat. They had left the Figo's residence and were now heading towards Diana's house.

"Isabella Eduardo?" Diana guessed, "She's a celebrity, Jaden." Browsing through her phone, she showed the screen to him. "That's her."

Jaden glanced at her screen with an indifferent face. The picture of a beautiful young woman wearing a white striking suit with a small white purse in her hand while standing with her back resting on the wall is displayed on the screen.

"So that's she?" He asked, "Are you a fan? or something?" His eyes returned to the road.

"Nope, I'm not," Diana answered and withdrew her hand. Sleeping off her phone, she adjusted herself and rested her head on the window, looking outside. "Maxwell is. He's kind of obsessed with her."

"Are you serious?" Jaden's eyes rolled in disbelief. "Maxwell is just eight."

"That's his celebrity crush." She chuckled and Vincent snickered, shaking his head. Both of them kept mute, enjoying the ride.

Jaden knew he was going to get any information he wanted from her so he wasn't in a hurry to ask and even if the killer was still on the loose and the matter was pressing, he couldn't do anything tonight other than to wait for the sun to rise.

He hated when a crime like this happened at night because his movement would be restricted. Not that he couldn't go out and find clues but, the nights were meant for sleeping and he knew that the citizens were already asleep except the victim's family so he couldn't go about asking the bereaved friends or colleagues.

Arriving at the front of a green gate, Jaden pulled over. "You should go in now." He said and Diana offered him. "Why don't you come in? We can talk on the case tonight and besides I have a lot to tell you."

Jaden understood her offer. She had told him earlier she was going to tell him what she found out about the evidence so there was a need for him to go in with her.

They were close partners and friends. Staying over at her house for the night wasn't something he hadn't done before and this case was an important one.

Still thinking of whether to accept her offer or not, he heard her words again. "It's been a while Maxwell saw you. You know you promised him you were going to see him, so you can fulfill your promise tonight."

Understanding the advantage, Jaden nodded his head. 'I guess I'm going to be killing two birds with a stone,' he thought. Accepting her offer. "let's go in then." He said and they both got down from his car.

He remotely locked his car and they started walking towards the gate. Opening the gate, Diana locked it and they continued their step towards her front door.

Pressing the button on the electronic lock on her door, she imputed her passcode, her door opened and they both entered.

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

"Big sister!!" They both heard a young familiar voice immediately after they entered the house.

A young boy, wearing a plain green T-shirt and a black shirt, holding a TV remote in his hand, average in height with a lean body, and blonde hair that fixed contrast to Diana's black hair, ran towards them. His small hands circled Diana's waist as he looked up at her with his doe-eye.

Diana's face lit up in a bright smile like all her day's energy was replenished in an instant, and she crouched down to meet her brother's height. Cupping his cheeks gently, "Do you miss me?" She asked and he nodded happily.

"I miss you too..." She hugged him tightly but gently. "I came with someone, ehn!!." And Maxwell's eyes looked at the man quietly standing by his sister's side.

Leaving her embrace, he switched to Jaden's place. "You finally came." He said and Jaden gave a comforting smile, patting him on his head.

"Your big sister told me you aced all your subjects this term again," Jaden claimed and Maxwell nodded feeling proud at his achievement. "A high-five?" Raising his palm a little bit above Maxwell's head. Their palm crashed gently on one another and they both chuckled.

"Hey! I've warned you not to run. You'll hurt yourself." Diana scolded as Maxwell ran back to the living room to continue the cartoon he was watching.

"You know he'll be good at catching criminals," Jaden admitted jokingly. "They won't be able to outrun him." And Diana shot him a hard glare.

Jaden gulped, in a bid to escape her wrath, he hurriedly walked towards her living room. Diana released a slow breath, shaking her head, she followed after him but instead of stopping in the living room, she continued to the kitchen to make something for both of them to eat.

Jaden sat beside Maxwell on the long couch opposite the flat-screen TV displaying a vivid animation. His eyes were locked on the flashing images on the television but his mind drifted off to the case.

'Golden bullet?' His mind just couldn't stop thinking about it. Even though that was the only evidence they had at the moment, he just couldn't help but wonder why the killer would keep something as crucial as that opened. It would mean; either he was passing a message or he was passing a challenge. But if it was the latter, then what kind of challenge was it?

Jaden was lost in his thoughts and the only time his thought was disrupted was when Maxwell laid his head on his lap. The little boy was already so tired from his activity that he couldn't fight with sleep to stay awake and enjoy his cartoon.

Letting him sleep, Jaden mind wandered back to the Killer. No matter how much he thought about it, why would the killer target Senator Figo's son? Senator Figo was one of the most loved men in the country so why would anybody target his son?

"Thinking about the case?" Jaden heard Diana's voice and it brought him back from his thoughts. Diana was standing few steps away from him with her hands folded on her chest.

When she finished cooking and setting up the dining table, she came to call him and then found him in his state. It was very obvious that whatever he was thinking of was something related to the case. She could tell because it was a normal thing for him to think deeply about something like that, besides he wasn't just the best homicide detective for nothing.

Jaden shrugged. He didn't have to answer that particular question because she knew him too well. "Maxwell has fallen asleep." He said, changing the topic. "Should I wake him? Or...?"

"No, I'll take him to his room. He already ate dinner before I left for the crime scene." She answered and Jaden's lips curved in an 'O' shape.

Coming closer, she gently lifted Maxwell from the couch and gently took him to his room so as not to wake him up. Dropping him on the bed, she covered him with a blanket, caressing his cheeks, she chuckled. "Sleep tight." She kissed him goodnight on his forehead before switching off the lights and leaving his room.

"Let's eat."She said as she got back to her living room. "I'm starving." She added and they headed to the dining room.

The dining table was a six-seater table. Taking both their seat at each end of the table where their food was already patiently waiting for them to devour, they began eating. Diana had prepared BBQ ribs, steak with mashed potatoes, and roasted chicken with vegetables.

Now munching on each bite, Jaden asked. "So how long are you going to keep me hanging?"
