CHAPTER 3

"Timothy," I called his name softly in the form of a greeting still with a smile on my face. His smile grew wider and I found myself forgetting everything that had happened that night with Gabriel.

Right now I felt like hugging him and telling him I missed him, but as the thought of him already with another woman probably married by now, ran through my head, I bit my lips scolding myself for having such a feeling.

"Long time no see. I didn't expect I was going to run into you here." He said and shifted his gaze to the direction of my friends below. "You came alone?" He asked and it sounded more like he was asking me, "I'm seeing your friends with their partners, where's yours?" I nodded and also followed his gaze.

Gabriel wasn't with them and I wondered if he had gone home or was still outside with his thoughts. "You know she didn't die." He suddenly said but I could immediately guess who he was referring to.

"The doctors found a way to save her and she didn't die." Pausing momentarily, he exhaled slowly. "We married but got..."

"It's okay. You don't have to tell me." I cut through his words. I could somewhat guess where he was heading but I wasn't ready for it. Not that, I didn't feel a bit curious to hear it from him, but the tone of his voice already gave away what he wanted to say before he could even say it.

"Are you finally staying in the state or you're going back." I asked waiting for his answer and when it came, "I'll be staying here for a while." it confirmed my guess.

They were no longer together. Timothy and his wife had divorced and here he was single again. That was one reason for me to be beaming with joy knowing well that if Timothy wanted a woman in his life, I would be the one. But for an unknown reason, I felt indifferent.

It felt strange. It felt like I was only interested in him because he was out of reach and now that he's closer to my grasp, I just wanted to let it go. I wanted something else,... something more,... something more better. Something that would be mine from the start to the end.

"We can catch up often and talk about things we didn't have the chance to before." He added and I was unsure what to reply so I only smiled showcasing my pair of white teeth hoping it was enough.

Then suddenly we started hearing noises from outside the club. The noise was a mixture of different voices talking at the same time and we inside the club all became distracted and curious as to what was going on. It was easy to tell because everyone had their eyes locked towards the entrance staring to see something interesting or shocking.

When the noise didn't go down instead it increased, two men wearing black suits rushed inside towards a man standing in the middle of the hall while holding a glass of wine in his hand.

They were probably the security men at the entrance. I could tell because I remembered the straight face they put on but now was different. Now, the straight face was replaced with hidden tension, and even from the way they had run in, you would know that something was going on outside and it was certainly bad news.

The man they ran to meet was no other person but Austin Davies, the last son of the Davies family, and head manager of the A&D Enterprise. He was probably the host of the party. Tall and light-toned, his brown hair stylishly combed accentuated the brown Italian suit he was wearing. He was in his late twenties but his face gave out a much younger look making him more standing.

The two security men whispered something to his ear and his brows furrowed. Without wasting a minute he grandly but hurriedly dashed out of the hall.

"Let's go see what's happening." I heard Timothy's voice and I immediately bought the idea. I wasn't someone who would like to get in trouble or stick my nose into something that's none of my business as my reputation may be at stake but for some reason, I just felt curious.

I wanted to know what was going on outside as I felt a strange uneasiness within me. The same I had felt on my way here and I couldn't push it away.

Nodding my head, I followed Timothy down the stairs and outside the club. Immediately we got outside, there was a crowd gathering near a certain car that looked familiar and I listened to the random voices.

"This is the police, please move back."

"Move away from the scene, no one should get this on camera."

"Officers, please hold them off."

"What's going on?" I asked Timothy who was by my side also scanning through the gathering with his eyes. "Come on." He held my hand and pulled me gently towards the crowd.

Trying to make way for us, we got to the front of the crowd and my body froze, eyes widened in shock at the first thing it caught.

Gabriel was on the floor, his face, facing the sky and blood was gushing out from the back of his head staining the black road crimson as he lay lifeless in cold blood— his blood.

Everything seemed to stop as I stood still just staring at Gabriel's body in utmost shock and confusion. My mind couldn't comprehend the fact that he was dead, and I was shivering in denial and shock.

The noise around me was all gone and the only sound I was hearing was my heart pounding loud inside my chest like it was breaking a wall ready to jump out in fear at any moment.

I wanted to speak but my mouth became too heavy for me to open. My body became numb and I could not even lift my limbs. My knees were weak, and I slumped to the ground.

"Isabella,... Bella" I heard Timothy calling my name but that was the only voice I heard last before everything turned pitch black.
