My Life is a Lie
chapter seven

chapter seven

Zyra looked at the sword in her hand in awe, ‘it’s beautiful,’ she thought to herself, as she carefully rubbed her hand on the edge of the blade. She studied the blade as she waited on further instructions.

“Zyra you ready?” Alex asks, bringing Zyra back to reality.

“Yea!” Zyra exclaims, sheathing her sword, “where do we start?”

“We start at the basics, most importantly stance.” Alex says, getting into a fighting stance. “Watch my feet, the feet is the first step,” he says, positioning his feet so that his right foot is pointing straight and his left foot is pointing west.

Zyra copied his movements but ended up making her left foot pointing north, “like this?”

“Close but make your foot point west instead of north,” Alex explains. Zyra nods, and fixes her feet, gaining a smile from Alex. “Good now to work on what position you want your sword at so it’s easy to grab.” He says, as he unsheathes his sword at a fast speed. Zyra nods, and begins moving her sword around, trying to get a good feel of it. She stopped when it was on her left hip.

“This feels the most comfortable,” Zyra explains, as she turns to face Alex.

“Good, now practice sheathing and unsheathing your sword, work on getting faster, and while you do that, I’m gonna go see how Cece is progressing,” Alex says, walking over to Cece. Zyra nodded, a little disappointed that Alex was going to help Cece as she did what she was told.

Cece was chewing on her bottom lip as she tried to hold her bow. She had the handle throat in her left hand, but for some reason it felt weird to hold it that way. She frowned as she looked at it weirdly, causing Alex to chuckle. He walked over to her and put his hands on her hands, and switched the bow around, it turns out she was holding it backwards. “Oops,” Cece chuckles nervously, as she grips the handle throat easier, “this feels better through,”

Alex chuckles, “I’m sure it does,” he says, “now how far can you pull the string back?”

“Um...only a few inches past my forearm....” Cece says, embarrassed, as she looks at the ground.

“That’s alright, it takes a while before you can easily pull it back, you just need to practice, lifting weights also helps.” Alex says, patting her on the back, “work on pulling it, see if you can make any progress, I’m gonna check on Iris,” he says, walking off.

Zyra looked at Alex and felt defeated, she felt weird when he put his hands on Cece’s, although she wasn’t sure wha the feeling was, she didn’t like it, and it definitely made her mad at Cece, yet she felt like she had no reason to be mad at her friend.

Iris was holding the throwing knives in her hands as she tried to get a good feel of the weight. She honestly wasn’t sure how to stand so she just tried to get the feel of the extra weight in her hand, as she tried different stances with her feet. Alex walks over, “first things first, you need a stance.” Alex moved his feet so his left foot is facing north, and his right foot is pointing northeast, and was also a few inches behind his left foot, “try this.”

Iris nods and copies Alex’s stance, grinning at the feeling. When she held the knife in her hand in this stance, it felt different? It felt better. “Now, I want you to practice throwing motions without actually throwing it,” He says, as he shows her the correct throwing motion,”first, you push off with your right foot until the ball of your foot is completely off the ground, so the only part of your right foot touching the ground is your toes. Then, you do a swimming motion with the hand you’re throwing, but make your arm go straight at the point of release. Last, you bring your arm back, and your entire right foot goes back on the ground. When you’re throwing you can twist your body a little bit if that helps.”

Zyra didn’t like him over there with Iris either, but at least he wasn’t touching her. She shook her head, trying to get her mind off of these thoughts and went back to practicing. She wanted Alex to see how much she progressed.

Alex turns to face the girls, “I have some errands to run, practice while I’m gone, you can ask my dad if you have any questions, I expect progress by the time I get back.”

“You want progress that fast?” Cece asks, as she puts her bow by her side.

“Unfortunately, we don’t have time for y’all to progress slower, we only have a year before the government takes over completely, we warned you this would be hell.”

Cece sighs, “alright…” She looks down, knowing she isn’t a fast learner, not completely sure how she would progress fast enough. She shook her head, wanting to get these thoughts out of her mind as she continued practicing. Alex walks out of the room, and out of the building. He made his way to a building that was tall and red, with an infinity symbol in the center...the symbol of the government…

He grins as he walks into the building and waves at the receptionist as he places his hand on the handprint pad, causing the door to open. He walks in and looks around, looking for the governor. “Jack?” He calls out, “come on, I don’t have all day, I have to get back to the girls!”

“Relax, I'm right here, any news?” Jack asks, coming into view. Jack was tall with brown hair and was very muscular, with red eyes. He had a smirk on his face, and blood on his clothes, so he probably just came back from winning a fight.

“Yes, I have them training, and I plan on tricking them into joining you just like you asked, as long as you promise not to hurt them or my family, and help me find my mom.”

“Alex, you should know by now,” he pauses as he turns around, “I never go back on my word.”

Alex nodded, “so far, you haven’t gone back on your word, my apologies, I didn’t mean to falsely accuse you.”

“It’s alright, now go take out the trash for me, then come see me, I have a mission for you.”

“Why not just give it to me now?” Alex asks, confused.

“Don’t question me, just do what I say!” Jack demands, loudly.

“Yes sir, sorry.” Alex says, walking over to the trash can, and taking the bag out, tying it. After he tied it, he put the new bag in and headed to the dumpster to put the trash bag away. He grumbled under his breath as he walked, he knew he was better than this; this was completely beneath him! He was the strongest assassin here!

Once he was done, he made his way back to Jack to find out what his mission was, even through he didn't really have time for this, he had to train the girls and Jack knew it. He sighed as he went up to Jack, "what's this mission?"

"Oh about that, something came up, I'll give you the mission when you come back next month. Alex raises a brow but nods and heads back to his house, where they're doing the training at.

Ten minutes later, Alex gets back home and walks in, going to the training room to see if the girls have improved and if they need help. Alex peeked in to see how the girls were doing and smiled at how focused they were.

Zyra had progressed well by unsheathing her sword quickly, which made Alex smile. He didn't really understand why he felt so happy that she was doing well, but he was. He really liked this feeling he felt around her, but he didn't know what the feeling was.

He looked at Cece who was now able to bring the bow string halfway up her shoulders and her stance was great!

Next, looking at Iris he saw that she had gotten her stance and throwing techniques down. He was glad that she had gotten the stances down.

Figuring the girls deserve a break, he yelled out, " girls, y'all are doing great, now it's break time!"

The girls stopped and sat down on a bench that was in the training room, chatting. "So how do y'all like your weapons? " Zyra asks.

"I like mine, it feels so empowering!" Cece exclas, smiling.

"I gotta get used to mine, it feels free, but i'm. Used to close combat, what about you?"

"I really like mine, it's hard to explain the feeling, but it's like I'm in control! " Zyra exclaims.

The other two nod and smirk at her, "are you sure it isn't because Alex also sword fights really well and you wanna impress him?" Iris asks.

"Wait what? No! " Zyra exclaims, blushing.

"Uh huh sure, tell that to your face," Cece giggles. Zyra blushes harder and rolls her eyes playfully, but what they didn't know was that Alex had heard their conversation. Blushing slightly Alex told the girls they were done for the day, so that he could think about what he just heard. The girls nodded at that and went to their room to chat and rest.
