Chapter 13

Luke knew about the plan his mother had made for him and he wanted to respect her wishes but at the same time, he felt he needed to level up more in his own skill. After finding out that the golem doing the farming tasks could help him level up, he was relieved. It would be a slow way to level up but he would level up passively and he needs this if he was going to spend time adventuring. Luke also decided to stick to his three-element magic rule, he was only going to be air, earth, and fire. Air in case he needed to escape and the other two were that people knew he used. The only thing Luke wished for was to learn more about was light and dark magic, he was still just at the basic tier and he felt that they could be very versatile types of magic to have.

On Luke’s 13th birthday he heard all of the things he already knew from his mother. He was going to start tomorrow and become an adventurer. The only thing that was a surprise was that Alice would also be coming along with him. Luke was kind of excited to be traveling with a hot elf woman. He even hoped that later on, maybe he could have Alice as more than just his teacher but this could just be his teen hormones speaking from seeing her. Luke was still growing and he was still shorter than Alice by at least 5 inches or so. He would wait, he already knew his life was long and Alice already knew all of his secrets.

Alice was excited to go on this trip because she had wanted to help Luke and wondered what kinds of things she could learn being with a kid like Luke. She already knew his magic was surpassing hers but she still had more knowledge about the world. Alice wanted to go with Luke to protect him and also because she had never actually gone to the other continents. Alice had just stuck to the human continent known as Isora. Isora only had the humans and elf nations and it was quite big, it also had very good weather all year long. She had always wanted to go to more places but had put it aside to earn some money and now this was her chance to go places and explore. If she knew one thing about Luke, it was that he was very curious about everything and he will make it to the other four continents soon enough.

Luke and Alice set out on their journey on horses. The first stop according to Alice was the royal capital. They needed to get supplies and magic bags to hold those supplies. Alice said, “Those bags are going to cost us a lot of gold”. Luke replied with a smile, “I have enough money for whatever we need, and more thanks to all the potatoes and coffee beans I sold the last three years.” Alice replied, “Don’t show off Luke. I also made a lot of gold teaching you magic.” Luke and Alice had a few conversations about what they were going to do but they decided that it would be a better idea to just go with the flow for now and not make plans.

Alice said, “Luke, I know you are very strong but you shouldn’t use all your elements, maybe three at most but try to make do with two if you can. Also if we are going to be going into dungeons later on in our adventures, we need some other members in our party, it might be hard for just the two of us.” Luke agreed with what Alice was saying, it was going to be very hard to find out where the traps are and unlike in games, he didn’t have a map for a dungeon. He didn’t even know what to expect in a dungeon.

After a day of traveling, Luke looked at the huge castle walls of the capital once again. He was in Notoria. He had been here several times to sell his coffee beans and made quite a bit of money from the nobility but he still didn’t know where the guild was or what the market looked like, he had just entered with James and gone straight to the inner walls to sell the coffee. Other produce had been sold by James and Samantha through their own connections and they had come to pick it up straight from the farm. This was going to be the first time in an actual guild building. Alice told him that there were several guilds in the capital but they all were governed by the kingdom so it didn’t matter which one they chose. “Guilds get large amounts of funding from the kingdom to kill monsters around the capital and to help clear dungeons but they can also make their own money by selling the items obtained from dungeon chests”, Alice said.

Luke knew it was a simple matter of crowdsourcing the work but it was impressive that the nations had thought this out that much, especially given that the world he was from was so far advanced and people were finally starting utilizing the benefits of crowdsourcing like in food delivery apps and online selling. He also guessed that the items that the guild got from the dungeons also were bought by the nations or nobility because who would want to get their hands dirty working when they could just throw money at the problem to get more power. The guild building was a great big building with a flag of the guild on it and it looked like the greek structures that Luke had seen in his past life, the closest match being that it looked like the Parthenon in Athens. The guild building had three floors upstairs, a basement, and the common floor. The basement was where people could buy and sell items and loot drop. The common room was on the first floor and it kind of looked like a bar with tables for people to sit around in and a few offices on the corner for private talks and a large bar top where the guild staff sat behind to give quests, help adventures and they also pointed people with items or other materials to the basement to sell. There was also a kitchen area and a large quest board with quests on them.

Luke found out that there were several different ranks for adventurers but the highest rank was S rank and those were people with so much strength and skill that they could conquer an S rank dungeon if five to ten of them were in a single party. The next strongest was A rank, where they could conquer an A rank dungeon if five to ten of them teamed up. Comparing an A rank and an S rank, he found out was like comparing the strength of someone who could lift a car vs someone who could lift five cars. A single S rank adventurer could conquer an A rank dungeon if they had the skills to detect traps and did high amounts of damage. Luke knew James and Samatha were amazing but it never occurred to him that they were that strong.

As a part of joining the guild, it was required for adventurers to show they could wield at least one type of magic and they had to have a magic bag. The magic bags were bought at the market earlier before coming here so they had that but Luke didn’t know what magic to show so he decided to fire and earth would be the element he would tell the guild about. “I am in the advanced tier of fire magic and intermediate in earth magic,” Luke said confidently to the guild assistant. The assistant was shocked but she had seen some nobles who were this young and able to do this much so she guesses this kid named Luke was a noble. “That’s very impressive, only most B rank adventurers have that kind of advanced magic. ” Luke knew it was the right thing to do, he was barely an adult with no skills or experience, he asked the assistant “which rank am I in then?” The assistant laughed and said, “for that, we need to test your skills and the guild master will decide.” Luke felt kind of embarrassed for thinking that having advanced tier magic could make him into a B rank. Alice saved his embarrassment, “he and I will be taking the test to determine our ranks, could we schedule a test for tomorrow?” The guild assistant replied, “No problem mam, I will let the guild master know an elf is also taking the test.”
