Chapter 11 - Limit Testing

Chapter 11 - Limit Testing

Luke had gotten five seeds of coffee from the merchants before leaving the capital. He had gotten a lot of ideas on what he wanted to do with his life during this trip. He was ready to implement one of them, it was to grow coffee. He figured that with his Fast Growth skill it would be no issue to make the seeds grow and be a plant being able to bear fruit within a year or two. Luke made a few containers with earth magic and then put some soil into the container and made sure the soil was wet. The soil was made from cow manure and some other stuff that James and Samantha had used in their own farm. Luke planted the five seeds and hoped that it would start growing.

The seeds grew into a small plant within 10 days and then into a medium-sized plant in 20 days. It was looking like a small tree at the 30-day mark. Luke had expected his skill to make this process fast but from what he had researched on the internet, it would take about three years to make the plan grow into a full tree able to bear fruit. He also found out all parts of the plant are poisonous besides the fruit itself, both to humans and other animals. So he had told his parents to keep any animals from chewing on the leaves as it would have just been a waste of life.

While the plant was growing, so was Luke. He had also tested his new Null magic skill Program, it allowed him to tell an object to do certain things. Luke knew this was an extremely useful skill that would allow him to become a mage who can cast spells without thinking and do other crazy things like a computer would do in his world. Luke knew it was important but he had no idea how to use it so he started with a small test of Program, if he could make a rock spin when thrown. Luke did this by visualizing the magic happen as he wrote a simple if statement in C++.

IF (rock.thrown == true)

{

Rock. spin = 10;

}

This program is somewhat unusual, Luke had no idea if this was going to work or if all of the properties also had to be written down in code like in a computer program but since this was magic, he envisioned that this would work and it worked. The spell worked. Luke made a rock, and he threw the rock and it started to spin.Luke guessed it was 10 rotations per second because this rock was really spinning. Luke was very excited to learn more about Program, he figured if he wanted to make a rock fly. This was also down with the same visualization technique and he just modified the program code,

IF (rock.thrown == true)

{

Rock. fly = 10 feet;

}

This did not work, Luke guessed because a rock does not have wings or anything to help it fly that it would not fly. The rock would have flowly back to his face if it had worked. Luke forgot to specify a direction for this program on the rock. This was what Luke expected but he would have loved it if this program also worked. It would mean that he had almost absolute power to manipulate the objects in this world, of course, that sounded like a broken power. Luke was not going to complain because he learned a lot from this small test. Knowing the limitations of these powers is one thing he would always need to know.
