A transparent wall of blue aura separated Drac from the mad beast. It clawed at the wall; the sound reverberated enough to hurt ears.
Drac nodded. “Thank you.”
“Aw. Now you're making me feel bad for teasing you.” Marina winced as she began to bear the burden of the Wolfman's attacks. Her arms shake. Realising its attack was futile; the beast darted around the magic wall to piece Drac.
“Bob!”
“Yes, Marina”
An armoured boulder rushed beside Drac. Carrying a shield as tall as an average adult, Bob blocked the claws. Greatsword in his right, Bob counter-attacked, slicing off skin. The beast backs away. Heckles high, the wolfman felt fear. Purple eyes stared at its former prey with panic.
“It will fight back even stronger. We need to kill it fast” Marina notes.
Drac walked closer to the Wolfman.
“Marina, can you restrain it?”
“Sure… “ She Holds up her hand. Blue aura flows around.
“Bob. That’s your name, big man? Can you taunt the monster? Try for his attention?”
Bob Looks at Marina and she nods back at him. “Yes.”
“Alright.” Drac smiled; he lifted his black hood. Blade, reverse gripped. Like a tense spring, he crouched down. Levitate on, jacket moves as in a gentle breeze.
Should've brought your bow arrows.
Drac agreed.
Marina and Bob stand ready. “Marina! It's Legs!”
Drac pounced into action. Drac is a blur. The wolfman saw Drac incoming and attacked from above. Drac darted to the right. With his short sword, sliced up and down the beast's hand. It roared in pain. Drac ran closer. Another claw came from the right. With a short stop, Drac flipped over the claw while striking back. He landed and started running. Surrounding the beast, Drac cut the legs. Claws came for him And he rolled. More claws and he stepped back.
Bob ran towards the Wolfman. A cut to the body while it was turned away. The Beast unleashed a piercing howl. The ferocity of the attacks escalated. The barrage broke the ground. Debris from everywhere. Drac weaved between it all. Untouched.
Ropes made of blue light wrap around the Wolfman’s wide legs and feet. The Beast tried to escape as the ropes were connected to the ground. Bob kept its attention with shield bashes and his great sword. Drac darted around, taking any damage he could. The wolfman panted heavily with numerous cuts along its limbs and back.
“We have worn him down! Let's continue!” Marina shouts.
Drac. Copies.
“Right.” Drac pauses. He feels warmth through his body once more. One became three.
“It worked!” Drac looks at himself. And smiling Copy looked back.
No need to say it out loud.
The three Dracs lowered down. Short swords ready.
Marina was so shocked the ropes lost some power before regaining. She grinned widely. “You will have to tell us about what the hell you just did after we killed this feral hound!”
Bob raised his shield to block an attack. The Dracs circled the beast. Slicing and cutting where they could. Blood splattered the ground. Drac was a tornado of silver and black. With the monster’s speed waning, Drac was able to slip closer to cut the body. It gets weaker and sickly. The Wolfman wobbled, saliva and foam dripped his face.
A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.
Marina’s face was full of disgust.
In a desperate attempt to save its own life, it launches a last attack on Drac. Drac steps to the side. The hound's right arm hit the ground next to him, making a crater. Drac moves on top of the wolfman's arm, and his copies follow. They all stab their Swords into the arm and begin to run. They sprint up the arm and leave three bloody lines. The wolfman whines a booming cry. The Drac’s jump at the shoulder. Aided by levitation they fly high. The Wolfman looks at them. From its purple eyes flow tears. Off goes the levitation, and with blade points down. they drop into the skull. Piercing deep. The gargantuan body collapsed. The copies disappear. Drac stood exhausted, covered in the Wolfman's blood. He looked had his blade with a large smile.
Luckily, our garments are imbued with rune magic, otherwise, this would have been very hard to clean.
Drac came down from the monster's head to meet Marina and Bob. The two of them looked fatigued but welcomed him with grateful smiles. Well, Marina did. Bob stood proud and rocklike.
“First monster kill. Great catch, right?”
A crowd of people come out of hiding. Cheers and applause ring through the street.
That was still a terrible idea.
Hours later, Drac, Marina and Bob sat at a corner table drinking mead. Drac was freshly cleaned of muck, the odd person came to shake their hand or congratulate them.
Marina with her hand on her chin speaks “Purple eyes, huh?”
“Yes, According to the Guide of Monsters, the eyes of the Wolfmen feature various colouring similar to humans but never purple.”
“So your theory is that it is possible that something influenced it. Either with magic or…”
“Something worse.”
“...That's really annoying.” She slouched on the table, arms spread out. “But with the wolfman killed, the town is finally safe from attacks.”
“Not sure.”
This piqued her interest. Marina slowly straightens up. Face stern. “Explain.”
“Statements from the townspeople have something in common. The Wolfman captured people and left the scene. It brought the victims somewhere.”
Drac brought out a map. Bob and Marina move closer in to see.
“After speaking to people, I figured out the general gist of where it went. Look. These points are where the wolfman was last seen. All points originate here.” Drac points at a spot on the map.
“Grenor Forrest. Wow!” Marina pats Drac hard on the shoulder. “I am flipping impressed.”
Ow!
“Now, why would you do that-”
“And your performance out there? Phenomenal! It's hard to believe you're a novice like I am”
Novice?
Marina stands up. Bob follows. “What are we waiting for? Time to save this town again!”
Drac, Marina and Bob trek together through the dense woodlands. The sun set on them as they hurried to find what they were searching for in Grenor forest.
“If we had taken our horses, it would've cut a lot of time. Flipping roots.” Marina kicks a loose branch.
Large roots spout from each tree. They grew through the ground in an uneven pattern making the journey with horses a hassle.
“Bob. Carry me please, my feet are getting wary.” Marina feigns being tired, hand to forehead.
“No, Marina”
“Oh come on!” Marina shows a finger to Bob. Bob shrugs his shoulders.
“Oh Yeah! We never got introduced formally to each other. Marina. Part-time Bounty hunter and monster.” She skipped over to Drac, holding up her hand to be shaken.
Part-Time?
“Drac.” He shook her hand.
"And the slow one over there is Bob. He doesn't talk much so don’t hold it against him."
"I am not slow." Bob groaned under his breath.
“Well met. Saw how you handled that shield. Saved my behind quite a few times.” Drac glimpses at Bob's shield. “Sari made?”
Bobs looked down at Drac. He nodded his head.
“Dumb Bob responded to you?! As if you couldn't be even more intriguing…Oh! That reminds me.”
Here we go.
“The things that looked like you. Where in the world did they come from?” Marina awaits an answer.
Drac replies “It's just a little talent of mine.”
Drac. Look forward.
Turning back to the front, Drac found a mess of living material in an open area. It webbed from the ground to the highest point of the trees. Texture like stomach lining, goo oozed off the creature. Many cocoons are stuck to the web. All the size of a human. In the middle of the living structure is an Eye. Yellow, lizard-like and terrifying. It inspects them.
“WHO GOES THERE. WHO DARES TO INTRUDE ON MY TERRITORY”
