Chapter 318

Noelle couldn't quite remember how she made it back to bel

For the past few hours, her sleep had been fitful, hovering between dream and reality. In her haze, she felt an odd sensation on her body-almost like a dog burrowing against her. She groggily opened her eyes, only to find that there really was someone lying on top of her.

Noticing she was awake, Hendrix didn't bother holding back. He grabbed her calf firmly and pressed down with more force.

Noelle gritted her teeth. She couldn't help but reach out with the aim to claw a few marks across his face. But she was too slow. Without a second thought, Hendrix caught her hand and pinned it firmly against his chest. Unable to break free, Noelle decided to just let him have his way for now.

To Hendrix, though, her passive response seemed like compliance, and it only excited him more. He flipped her around with increasing fervor.

Seizing an opening when he let his guard down, Noelle kicked him straight in the stomach.

"Can you just let me breathe for a second?" she snapped.

But Hendrix merely laughed.

Noelle thought he was completely insane. She couldn't even be bothered to figure out what he found so amusing She simply shoved him away and went back to sleep. But Hendrix quickly pulled her into an embrace from behind.

She tried to push him off again, but he tightened his arms around her.

"We're done," he said. "But if you keep moving, I can't make any promises."

The threat worked. Coupled with the fact that she was utterly exhausted, Noelle didn't argue further. Slowly, she let her eyes close.

Hendrix, however, couldn't fall asleep. He looked at the woman in his arms, fully aware that her current compliance was fleeting. Once she woke up, she would look at him with those emotionless eyes of hers again.

It didn't seem to matter what he did nothing could elicit even the smallest reaction from her. Not anger, resentment, nothing.

But Hendrix knew this was only temporary. Things would get better. Now that the bond of marriage had tied them together once again, she had no way of escape,

Noelle was fast asleep, but the discomfort made her brows furrow. Seeing this, Hendrix loosened his grip just a little.

He watched her for a moment before whispering softly, "I never learned how

to be a proper husband or a lover. So

Hendrix gazed at her for a long moment before finally closing his eyes.

Then, he had a dream. In his dream, he found himself back at their first wedding.

Back then, Noelle's eyes would sparkle whenever she look at him. They were filled with love, yet tinged with a

hint of caution, as if she feared he'd notice, and that would invite ridicule and disgust.

Hendrix reached out, wanting to take her hand. But just as he moved, he saw Noelle walk right past him. She was still dressed in her white wedding gown, her eyes still brimming with that unmistakable love. But the person she was walking toward was Dylan.

The words Noelle had once said to Beatrice echoed relentlessly in Hendrix's ears.

She said she loved Dylan. The woman who had once loved him now loved Dylan. She wanted to be with him, to marry him. Everything she had once given Hendrix-or hadn't-was now ready to be given to Dylan.

The echo of her voice was like a series of knives plunging into his chest. The pain was so sharp that it twisted his face in anguish.
