Chapter 173

"Do you think I meant that?" Hendrix maintained a poker face.

Noelle smiled. "So, are you eating this or not?"

Hendrix didn't say anything and just glanced at the items beside her hand.

Seeing this, Noelle said, "I brought grilled chicken and eggplant parmigiana."

"Oh."

Hendrix still looked emotionless, but he did not reject it.

Noelle then brought the things over to him. When she put the food down, Hendrix suddenly reached out and grabbed her. She was pressed onto his lap.

"Noelle, I thought you were lying to me previously," Hendrix said as he bit on her shoulder, as if seeking revenge.

"Lie to you about what?"

"Did you ever genuinely like me?"

His question startled Noelle.

Before she could speak, Dan's anxious voice came from the outside, "Madam Freeman, you can't go in..."

The door was pushed open before Dan could finish his sentence.

Beatrice was standing there angrily.

Noelle struggled to get up from Hendrix's lap when she heard Dan's voice, but Beatrice was too fast. The moment Noelle stood up, Beatrice was already in front of her.

"Madam Freeman," Noelle muttered.

Beatrice ignored her and stared at Hendrix. "Was it you?" Her voice was cold and sharp.

Hendrix did not answer her. Instead, he gave Dan a look.

Dan quickly came up and said, "Madam Freeman, I'll bring you to the waiting room. This way..."

"I want an answer right now! Hendrix, was it you? Did you have people target his company? How could you..." Beatrice spoke through gritted teeth.

"Why can't I?"

Seeing that Dan couldn't take her away, Hendrix no longer bothered to hold back. He said plainly, "Didn't you believe it was true love with him? I just wanted to show you what the person you thought was utterly devoted to you would choose when faced with a conflict of interest."

When Hendrix finished speaking, Beatrice fell silent. But her face turned deathly pale.

"Any other questions?" Hendrix asked again.

Beatrice stared at him for a moment before suddenly letting out a laugh. "Well done. Now I see... You truly are Gerald's son.'

With that, she turned and walked out without another word

Dan didn't dare say anything more and hurriedly followed behind her.

Hendrix, on the other hand, stood there without moving.

After a while, it seemed he finally remembered that Noelle was still beside him. He suddenly recalled the conversation he just had with Beatrice.

Noelle must have heard everything.

He looked toward her, seeming to want to say something, but in the end, he said nothing.

"I... Maybe I should go back first?" Noelle could only say.

Hendrix turned his eyes away and gave a soft "mm" as a response.

Noelle didn't say anything else, but just as she reached the door, something seemed to occur to her. She turned back and said, "Oh, right. Don't forget to bring the food container back when you come home

tonight."

Her words caught Hendrix slightly off guard. He didn't reply immediately, instead staring at her intently. "Did you hear me?" Noelle asked again.noveldrama

"Alright."

"Alright. I'll head out now. Don't overwork yourself."

Hendrix watched her, his Adam's apple bobbing as he swallowed. Finally, he responded, "Okay."
