Chapter 21: Development of Derived Skills

Chapter 21: Development of Derived Skills

In the Plantation in the dedicated space, three agricultural insects are working tirelessly. One is working hard to loosen the soil in the Plantation, and each movement makes the soil even looser. Another is busy collecting dead leaves that have fallen from the crops. Another is lying by the waterhole, sucking itself up into a round, bulging water balloon, and then slowly crawling towards the crops, ready to water them.

“Luckily there are only eight crops, otherwise these insects would be exhausted,”

Benjamin muttered softly, then bent down and scattered a handful of breadcrumbs under the crops, which were the agricultural insects' rations.

Normally, agricultural insects collect dead leaves from crops as food, but since the crops on the Plantation have not yet grown, how many dead leaves will fall?

Benjamin has no choice but to provide these “little gardeners” with food. Breadcrumbs are not expensive anyway. A large bag of this unexceptional bread can be bought for 1 Mystsu Currency, and Mystsu Currency has great purchasing power for this kind of ordinary food.

Since setting up his Plantation in his personal space, Benjamin has been visiting it regularly. He quietly watches the extraordinary plants growing in the Plantation: three Explosive Fruit Trees and five Red Crystal Fruit Trees. Looking at the young green leaves and sturdy branches, he feels a sense of peace and contentment.

During these seven days of idyllic life, Benjamin occasionally went out to forage for food, and then he would stay at home to research derived skills or enter that state of inexplicable contentment in the Plantation.

Fluffy, on the other hand, adapted exceptionally well to life in Reincarnation Space. Whenever he had some free time, he would hang out in the public activity area. Benjamin gave Fluffy 500 Mystsu Currencies as pocket money so that he could go in and out of public places like Food Street as he pleased. With his cute appearance, Fluffy was very popular with the women in the space and was leading a pretty comfortable life.

Of course, Fluffy didn't get his pocket money for nothing. Every day, it went to the Trading Market and informed Benjamin immediately if it found any equipment, skills, or other items that Benjamin could use. It was really strange. While Benjamin kept sending Fluffy to look for items every day, he himself occasionally strolled around the Trading Market, but in the past five days, he had never been able to find anything that he liked.

Although he wasn't successful in buying things, he was quite successful in selling things.

[Charge] Skill Scroll, [Brown Bear Boxing Gloves], and [Snakeskin Flexible Whip] were all sold successfully, earning a total of over 1,000 Mystsu Currency. The price of items sold on Trading Street is much higher than the price recovered by space, and with this additional income, Benjamin's mind became active again, and he upgraded [Combat Basics].

Combat Proficiency LV1

Effect: Increases damage dealt by combat by 2%.

As a result, Benjamin's remaining assets amounted to 2,355 Mystsu Currency, and his wallet had shrunk even more.

Although Benjamin was unable to buy the right skill scroll, he successfully developed three derived skills during the seven days.

Thanks to his A-level talent in Energy Manipulation, Benjamin found it particularly easy to develop green-quality magic skills. He could simply devise possible transformation ideas and then carry out development experiments smoothly.

Energy Shield (derived skill)

Quality: EX

Effect: Creates an Energy Shield with a diameter of 2 meters that can withstand 20 points (INT x 2) of damage. Costs 10 MP.

Derived Effect: [Armor] causes the shield to partially envelop the body, creating local armor that can withstand 40 points (INT x 4) of damage.

Description: It is well known that concentrating defensive energy in a localized area can significantly improve the defense of that area.

Magic Missile (Derived Skill)

Quality: EX

Effect: Fires an element-free missile that deals 20 (INT x 2) magic damage to the targeted enemy. Costs 10 MP

Derived Effect 1: [Elemental Fusion] Adds the element effect of the missile, dealing an additional 10 (INT x 1) elemental damage.

Derived Effect 2: [Magic Vortex] Hovers the Magic Missile in the palm of your hand, causing it to spin rapidly, dealing 30 (INT x 3) laceration damage to the target and knocking it back.

Derived Effect 3: [Sniping] Compresses the Magic Missile into a bullet to increase its speed, dealing 60 points of (INT x 6) magic damage to the target. This effect requires 1 minute of charging.

Description: You've really done something with that single Magic Missile.

After a lot of thinking and experimentation, Benjamin successfully developed three derived skills without the aid of the system, which fully demonstrates the awesome capabilities of a technology geek.

As a result, Benjamin's active skill bar is once again left with four empty spaces, but the active skills he has mastered already far exceed those of an ordinary contractor of the same level.

The only drawback is that it costs more MP.

Even though Benjamin's MP has reached 95 points (Misty Crow accounts for 5 points), it is still not enough for him to squander recklessly.

All of Benjamin's skills except Spider Silk require 10 MP to activate, and using a single Derived Effect will cost an additional 5 MP. Even if you factor in his 5-point recovery per hour, Benjamin can't use too many skills in a day. In this case, if a battle gets too intense, Benjamin can easily run out of MP and be left in an embarrassing situation. What's more, once MP is used up, a series of negative effects such as "Stun", "Weakness" and "Headache" will occur.

This is the dilemma of all low-level contractors, especially Mage-type contractors. Due to their low attributes and the small number of available skills they have mastered, the elimination rate of low-level contractors is quite high. Therefore, most contractors choose to enter the task world in teams to increase their chances of survival.

"It seems I'm still a bit far from becoming a Mage Bastion. I need to buy some Mana Potions before entering the next world."

Benjamin has only experienced one task world and has been staying at home since returning to the space. If he can't find anyone to team up with in the next seven days, he'll have to go it alone. Then he'll definitely need to stock up on Mana Potions.

Why didn't Benjamin buy Mana Potions last time? Buying Mana Potions is really a heartbreaking experience. A bottle of Mana Potion that restores 20 MP costs 250 Mystsu Currency, which is so expensive that it makes you question life itself. And that's the price in the Trading Market; the Mana Potions in the Space Shop are even more expensive. So Benjamin figured that he could buy Mana Potions later, just in case the Red Crystal Fruit Tree, an extraordinary plant, managed to grow from seed to fruit in just 15 days.

As it turned out, daydreaming was not a good idea.

"The prices in Reincarnation Space are ridiculous!"

Benjamin, who had given up thinking, muttered habitually. He fell back on the bed and used Fluffy as a pillow. That was the only use Fluffy had. He was going to take a nap and then look for swords or fighting-related active skills. As for magic skills, he felt he could basically give up.

"Fluffy, when did you start wearing perfume?"

Benjamin, who had just fallen asleep, caught Fluffy in front of him and asked, puzzled, as he smelled a light fragrance. Then Benjamin saw Fluffy's expression of disdain. Instantly, he understood what was going on and his expression returned to normal.

"Maybe I've been too nice to you these past few days, to the point where you've forgotten that you're actually just backup food."

Benjamin grabbed Fluffy and took him to the bathroom, where he threw him into the washing machine and pressed the start button. As the damn ball of fur tumbled around "happily" in the washing machine, Benjamin's mood instantly improved and he felt completely healed.

Five minutes later, just as Benjamin was about to start the washing machine again, he felt a blackout.
