A Warning, Not a Chapter

A Warning, Not a Chapter

OK. I most likely should have had this warning at the beginning of the story, or even in the synopsis, but I didn't. I suppose that the tags cover it, or at least my ramblings about tags, if anyone reads that. I did cover the first warning at some point, but it deserves repeating in the hopes that many more people read this in the future. It's not such a horrible thing that it really needs a warning, but for this particular topic I believe there should be a warning of sorts. And a spoiler for those who want to skip huge swaths of the story, or at least know more about what they are getting into, even though it's not nearly as bad as I could have made it. Some things are unconscionable, and i will NEVER write them.

The topic of today's warning should be obvious based on the name of the story, but even more if you have actually been keeping up until this point. It is also a twofold warning. And sorry for all the swearing and caps in this, but it is important.

Political views and Children. Obviously one is FAR more important, and if you chose the first one shame on you. However, political views comes first in the warnings.

After having met the duke's kids, it should be obvious that they have behavior issues. How these issues came about will be discussed, as well as remedies, causes, etc, etc. You get the idea.

Now, ALL of that will be based solely on my opinion. I PURPOSEFULLY looked up nothing to back any of this up in any way shape or form. I don't want some doctor's medical opinion, a pharmaceutical company's profit margin, or a baby beauty pageant mom's dreams of big money and fame getting in the way of me being an asshole. Actually it's not about that, and neither is this warning. It is mostly for people who take children's issues a little too far in any direction.

You know what I mean. People who believe it can all be fixed with drugs, or people who believe the opposite. How about praying it all away? Or the ignoring it crowd. There is a segment of the population that not only believes hard, but yells loudly, and this story, again, has NOTHING to do with them. I don't think I am one of those people, or at least I hope not. Nor is this in any way a political statement. So keep that shit to yourself.

If you don't need to hear that particular warning, good on you. Again, I hope I fit that crowd.

SECOND, AND MORE IMPORTANT WARNING:

There are children in this story, and their lives have not been pretty. Before you jump to conclusions about me giving warnings, there will be no physical abuse of any kind done to a child explained in detail in this story. Furthermore, the farthest any abuselike thing will go would be something like a spanking, or a cuff to the back of the head, AKA the Gibb slap. That does not mean that these things haven't or won't happen off screen. Despite writing fiction I refuse to write a complete lie about human nature. What I do refuse to do is write about a child being hurt. I have kids; that shit is NOT OK.

Now, as much as people can argue the differences, or lack thereof, between physical, mental, and social abuse of children, I AM differentiating between them for the story. So there will be some difficult things dealing with the mental and social abuse of children in the future. This WILL NOT be an ongoing thing after a point. If this concerns you in any way please read the spoiler. It will spoil the plot somewhat, mostly some characterization, but it definitely counts as a spoiler, so I'm hiding it from most people. The short version though, is that there are rough times ahead, but they won't last forever.

Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.

There will be a second, SIGNIFICANTLY less vague spoiler inside this one.

Neglect, REALLY bad parenting, willful disregard, unreasonable expectations of children. These are the first points. If these will be too much for you, don't bother looking further.

Malicious neglect, off screen physical abuse that is only mentioned not focused, rough and harsh bullying (talking street fights between kids), enforced slavery of a child (of the same level Adam is undergoing so far).

None of this will be just the mention of a possible threat like with PeeBee, this is stuff that not only happened, but shaped the children's personalities.

This spoiler contains far more spoiling, but also far more details, read ONLY if you want specific details on how and why these things are in the story. It WILL ruin stuff for you, including portions of the time line, and an event that will be occurring within 15 chapters.

For all intents and purposes, the DeVille family can be considered to be broken. By the parents. They see their children ONLY as tools, not really as people, yet alone children. They also don't intend to ever need an heir, but pressure Marcus to be the best anyways, in case their plans for immortality fall through.

Abby stabs people because her parents award her bad behavior with toys and gifts. AKA they try to bribe her to stop doing bad things, but never actually stop giving her things even when she doesn't stop. It is also the only way she gets ANY attention from her parents, so she keeps doing it. She hates it and knows it's wrong, but how else can she get her parents to notice her.

Marcus is the heir, so he must be THE BEST at everything. His parents give him attention all the time, but all of the attention is focused on him not being good enough. As a result, he is so driven he forgets things like food, sleep, socializing. Like his sister, he hates it, but has no other recourse.

There is another child. This one has suffered. Abuse, fights, hate, scorn, pretty much all the worst stuff. MOST of that is pointed out to have happened, and purposefully at that, but it should be only slightly more offensive in description than it is here. The behavior of this child is a reflection of what has been done to him, so you can imagine how awful it will be. Again, I'm sorry, but it serves a purpose.

I hope you stick around to read the story.

Expect AT LEAST twenty chapters of these things being in the story as major points, and AT LEAST another twenty to figure out ways to work around, solve, or treat the behaviors that result from these things. For an unknown time (I know the plot, not how long it will take to write the story that supports it), these things will still occur, but be less effective. The "at least"s could be an extra ten to twenty chapters each, but I am hoping to be under the "at least", I just don't think it is realistic.

ALL of this will stop at some point, but again, I do not have a chapter count for when as of yet.

When I know exactly what chapter everything that falls under this warning stops, I will return to edit it in. Until then, you have been warned, even as vague as it is. Please don't complain later, I am trying to keep people from freaking out. Also, could you leave off the bad reviews and ratings from writing both a warning, and some rough content. I understand people not liking either of them, but you can just stop reading the story. Or leave a detailed review, and mention your concerns there for other people to read, but rate it based on everything before the content that chased you away. Maybe point out that I tried to warn you too.

I hate that I have to do things like this, but it is better than the alternative.
