Casper leaned back, savoring a rare moment of tranquility. His mind replayed the scenes from the office, where everyone's faces had radiated joy and enthusiasm.
It warmed his heart, marking the first time since his family's bankruptcy that he'd experienced such a welcoming atmosphere. And it was all thanks to Zane.
He silently promised to work harder and prove worthy of Zane's investment in him.
When Casper opened his phone, he was surprised to see messages from Jessica. It was unlike her, typically so frugal, to offer him money. Even knowing it might just be her way of smoothing things over, he couldn't help but feel touched. Clearly, she treated him differently.
Any lingering resentment he'd harbored toward Jessica over the past few days seemed to evaporate.
He replied, "I'm at Huxham Corporation. I was in a meeting and didn't see your messages earlier."
Then, feeling playful, he added, "Are you sure you want to give me money?"
Jessica stared at her screen, puzzled by Casper's response. Couldn't he tell she was just being polite? Surely, he wasn't actually asking for money?
She bit her lip, conflicted. It could spell the end of their relationship if she didn't respond. And if Casper became successful in the future, she'd have no part in it.
What troubled Jessica most was the dilemma of how to respond. If she said no, Casper would realize she was just being polite. But if she agreed and he really asked for money, what then? Should she just transfer the funds?
After much deliberation, Jessica decided to take the plunge. One couldn't catch a wolf without risking the bait, after all.
She replied, "How much do you need?"
Casper was surprised by her response. Was Jessica not joking?
He paused before replying, "How much do you have?"
Jessica sent a screenshot of her account balance.
Casper counted the zeros, realizing Jessica was far wealthier than he'd imagined. His feelings were mixed Part of him wondered if his family's bankruptcy could have been avoided had dessica offered help back then. Yet he also knew it was her money to do with as she pleased,
Touched by her kind gesture, he replied, "How about half of it?"
Jessica read the message several times to make sure she wasn't mistaken. Casper wanted half of her entire assets? Having known Casper for a while, Jessica was familiar with his playful nature. She suspected he might be teasing her again. Hoping he wasn't serious about the money, she replied, "Sure. Send me your account details."
Casper raised an eyebrow. Was the notoriously frugal Jessica really going to transfer the money? It seemed out of character for her. Casper decided to send his bank account information.
When she saw his response, Jessica realized she might have backed herself into a corner. At this point, not following through would make her look terrible. "Give me a moment. I'll head to the bank for the transfer."noveldrama
"Thank you," Casper replied, still not refusing.
"Don't mention it."
About half an hour later, Casper had
immersed himself in work,
assuming Jessica had found a way to avoid the transfer. Suddenly, his phone chimed with a new message notification.
