Ch 2. Part 1. Leo

Ch 2. Part 1. Leo

As it is with most other countries, Germany’s capital Berlin has the most population out of every other city in the country. Even though it is the economic, industrial and commercial center for the country, it is far from the safest, the most peaceful or the most accessible place to live in. Despite these, however, people live here, trying to make enough to move away, and often, fail in making it out of here. These people are called the working class, the backbone of the country’s development and prevalence. Without them, the country would have never reached the height it has reached; as the defiance to the previous norm, it has peaked through sheer will and determination, of the people and the new standard that holds the people to the jobs it needs to survive.

With the customs it had stilled into its people, the efficiency and output of the industry exceeds those of old and tradition, making the mark of a new predator, an apex of the new age and its application. While those of the past rely on tried and trusted methods for mass production, Germany introduced the idea of mechanization of miracles – enabling the machines to be partially or fully operate on the newly developed CE system, which offers a plethora of new methods to meticulously assemble and make parts much to meet the demands of thousands upon thousands of people. With this new technology, Berlin bathes in the lights of Nova – the ones who seep with potential, knowledge and the experience to make use of such.

One of the most important logistical accomplishments of the century is the invention of the vast railroad networks connecting allies and enemies alike. Far before the Magical Revolution, the iron engines roamed the earth, delivering supplies to places ranging from the verandas of north to the No Man’s of the east. Even after such accomplishments had been made in transport engineering, most of the movement of goods go on the steel parallels, passing outposts that had been made in the prior century and finally delivering through postal. While the material transport is an issue on its own, the persons’ transport is also a big logistical hurdle. As it has not changed since the past century, its age is shown through the inability to accommodate the blossoming population, often leaving those who have nothing to spare in the past, behind all the time’s dust.

“Miksi on nain kylmä? En uskonut etta täällä olisi nain kylmä…”, pulls out her hat, “Hu-Bachbetsi Ham-Rihthamdi Di Sout”, says San as the sunhat she held in her hand turns into an Ushanka. With the inventions of weapons of mass destruction and mass harvesters, some parts of the world started to experience unforeseeable meteorological events and disasters, trading environmental safety for defensive capability and energy resources. Throwing on a jacket and putting his hands in his pockets, “Such nostalgia~ It is this cold in Oslo almost every time of the year; and in Danzig, too. I like this kind of weather, just nice and bright”, says Johann.

Sighing out a large, “Those pigs have not fixed that, huh?”, says Will. Holding San’s hand while pointing to a closed part of the station, “The incident of ’70: Those whom I worked with helped me escape the city by blowing up that part of the train station. Something went wrong when I was checked of my ID and the black-hats started to chase after me. I was starting running out of options when Yuki, along with 4 others, jumped in between and protected me from getting caught. It was a spectacle. You can see Yuki’s strings’ cutouts right at the entrance… One person fell. Another followed… I do not remember the details but someone called Leo blinded as well as blew up the ones who were still targeting me. In the end, my previous records as well as my whole identity was erased by Ammo and I was born anew”, he says as someone approach the group while they sat at a bench.

“Born from the explosion that took dozens, the Ghost of Berlin finally decided to show his forgotten face in his birthplace”, says the man. With an albino hair, a large scar on his right eye and a bead bracelet around his left wrist, a guy about the same age as Johann could be seen leaning on Will. Jumping on his head, “Your hair is as soft as I last perched up on. How have you been Leo? Your eye good?” says Yuki. Picking up and nuzzling with her, “You are as adorable as I last seen you, too, Yuki. Maybe a little heavier but you are still nice and small… I can still see your forehead scar as well as your 2nd iris, so my sight is just fine”, says Leo. Standing up and extending his hand, “It is a pleasure to meet you Leo Wilhelm Jaeger. I am Johann von Alstrom, a friend of Will here and I have heard a lot from you. I hope we would be great friends”, says Johann as Li also joins in the introduction, “It is nice to meet you, Mr. Jaeger. I am Li, an apprentice of Mr. Johann and a friend of Mr. Will”, he says, bowing to show respect.

Flicking a coin up in the air, Will swiftly maneuvers around Leo, gets him in a threatless choke-hold as he leans on him. “Looks familiar?”, he says as he catches the coin in his hand and displays it in front of his eyes. “You still have that huh – that 20 kopek?”, says Leo. “Well then, I get that as your forgiveness, Ghost”, slips out of the bind, “Now, if you please, follow me to your residency in which you will live during your stay here”, he adds as he walks to the exit of the station.

“You meany…”, says San to Will as they walk out of the West Berlin train station. Confused, “Eh? Why- How- What do you mean, San?”, says Will. Almost choking on his spit, “San? SAN?! Like Ca-San-Dra? What are you implying by that, Will? Do you still dream of her; do you, to the point where you call your friend as that, Will?”, says Leo. Holding his hand over his left eye and looking intensely at San, “So you are her… How the damned hell are you still alive-”, he says before being bonked on the head by Will… After being pulled aside for a moment, “Ja- I will not tell her the things you said not to tell. Alice is still waiting for her response, too. Will… you are a meany”, he adds as the group walks past the ’62 explosion site.
